i feel like this band has by and large subverted obvious expectations like that

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:28 (six years ago)

the obvious thing for them to do is to merge the jazz stuff with the live rock band stuff and make a shiina ringo album

ufo, Thursday, 6 June 2019 02:01 (six years ago)

I want to be clear about one thing: “Mine” is great

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Thursday, 6 June 2019 07:04 (six years ago)

otm

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 6 June 2019 09:20 (six years ago)

John Lennon legendarily used to refer to Paul McCartney's "old time" pastiches as "granny music", which is a term that I certainly think applies to 'Mine' ... although, I think at this point in musical history it's actually more "great-granny music" territory.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 6 June 2019 13:11 (six years ago)

completely unrelated, but Ray Davies has way more granny songs than Paul.

campreverb, Thursday, 6 June 2019 16:37 (six years ago)

one month passes...

yesterday saw them live and it was the best concert ever.

Nourry, Friday, 19 July 2019 15:07 (six years ago)

I just got this but as an e-mail from them so I assume it's more significant than the last few breadcrumbs they've dropped regarding the upcoming album:

Can't wait to hear "Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up!"

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Tuesday, 23 July 2019 17:58 (six years ago)

finally!

they've deleted all their twitter accounts too for the time being but the pic is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/the1975/comments/cguhlz/wake_up_first_single_maybe/

ufo, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 02:16 (six years ago)

GO DOWN, SOFT SO- oh wait

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWcfzAfuFyE

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Wednesday, 24 July 2019 23:18 (six years ago)

According to their IG story, their new single is titled "People" and is out in 28 days?

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Wednesday, 24 July 2019 23:20 (six years ago)

weird! feels a bit long to really work as an opener like that

ufo, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 23:23 (six years ago)

matty...........

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 24 July 2019 23:45 (six years ago)

You heard it from them first: blowjobs are tired, civil disobedience to combat climate change is wired

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Wednesday, 24 July 2019 23:47 (six years ago)

the worst thing about this band is their love for having a minimum of a month's build-up to a lead single

ufo, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 23:58 (six years ago)

So the preview for this album is up on Apple Music and it’s 22 songs long

josh az (2011nostalgia), Thursday, 25 July 2019 03:31 (six years ago)

release date is 21 February :/

ufo, Thursday, 25 July 2019 03:39 (six years ago)

I'm listening to a 1975 song on Spotify, and the "canvas" video for it is an ad for "People". First time I've ever seen a band use that feature as an advertisement.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Thursday, 25 July 2019 04:33 (six years ago)

Lol at the self-titled track. As if a 1975 album called 'Notes on a Conditional Form' wasn't already shaping up to be the most pretentious album of all time.

Tim F, Thursday, 25 July 2019 04:52 (six years ago)

Honestly, I was with it until that very last corny sentence. I understand why people would be repelled by this, but at the same time: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/597kpd/new-report-suggests-high-likelihood-of-human-civilization-coming-to-an-end-in-2050

josh winters (josh), Thursday, 25 July 2019 05:36 (six years ago)

keyboard plinks in the background sound like actress - jardin lol

J. Sam, Thursday, 25 July 2019 06:00 (six years ago)

the sentiment of it is fine i just don't think '5 minute spoken word' is going to be a good way to open the album and that there's surely better ways to integrate that sort of message into the album

ufo, Thursday, 25 July 2019 10:14 (six years ago)

its a great way to open the album!

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Thursday, 25 July 2019 14:41 (six years ago)

its art man you're not building a table

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Thursday, 25 July 2019 14:42 (six years ago)

it's a great way to open the album insofar as you can always just start with track 2

J0rdan S., Thursday, 25 July 2019 15:00 (six years ago)

i find it pretty pleasant to listen to, tbh...v sci fi vibe. like an entry from the diary of princess irulan

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Thursday, 25 July 2019 15:16 (six years ago)

the instrumental track is kinda cool but so is the track for "The Man Who Married a Robot" and I still skip it

Vinnie, Thursday, 25 July 2019 15:25 (six years ago)

it's not to say that this kind of track can't work. I like VU's "The Gift" and that's 8 minutes long. maybe something about the vocals being too upfront in the 1975 tracks

Vinnie, Thursday, 25 July 2019 15:26 (six years ago)

deej otm

k3vin k., Thursday, 25 July 2019 15:44 (six years ago)

i listened once, that should do it.

big city slam (Spottie), Thursday, 25 July 2019 16:01 (six years ago)

I like to think of it as the logical endpoint of a pop idea that started with Beyonce’s “Flawless”.

Tim F, Thursday, 25 July 2019 21:33 (six years ago)

in that "flawless" is about waking up and this song puts you to sleep?

J0rdan S., Thursday, 25 July 2019 22:01 (six years ago)

They should have gotten Baz Luhrmann instead.

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Thursday, 25 July 2019 22:14 (six years ago)

lol I think if you said to Matt "congratulations on making a sequel to The Sunscreen Song" he would probably kill himself.

Tim F, Thursday, 25 July 2019 23:20 (six years ago)

looking forward to the version on the next album where the speech is autotuned or something

ufo, Friday, 26 July 2019 02:23 (six years ago)

all the s/t intro tracks are p terrible imo, so im not putting much stock in this. i didn’t like the spoken word track on the previous album either tho so hopefully that’s the extent of it

flopson, Saturday, 27 July 2019 05:23 (six years ago)

i thought it was fine on ILIWYS but otherwise completely skippable

ufo, Saturday, 27 July 2019 06:37 (six years ago)

two weeks pass...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuVuUnYYCp4

even my least favorite 1975 song is good live

american bradass (BradNelson), Monday, 12 August 2019 19:23 (six years ago)

video's gone, which track?

ufo, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 01:06 (six years ago)

full band arrangement of “be my mistake”

american bradass (BradNelson), Tuesday, 13 August 2019 01:53 (six years ago)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9u62hnB-6ag

oh wow that's a lot better than the album version

ufo, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 02:14 (six years ago)

they were so good when i saw them a month ago that i'm actually thinking travelling from lisbon to paris in november just to see them again at pitchfork music festival.

Nourry, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 09:15 (six years ago)

New single in 3 hours?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKdPxXWm7Jg

toby, Thursday, 22 August 2019 14:31 (six years ago)

they've gone Manson!

Simon H., Thursday, 22 August 2019 18:39 (six years ago)

i think the video really sells the song

J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 August 2019 18:41 (six years ago)

unrelated but the official 11M-view video for Give Yourself A Try has changed? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUzBfBqbSmc

alpine static, Thursday, 22 August 2019 18:46 (six years ago)

I have not watched the video. I did listen to the song via Spotify, by queuing up and listening to the "The 1975" intro track first, which I recommend.

MarkoP, Thursday, 22 August 2019 18:47 (six years ago)

i was not expecting this. still processing. but i was hoping this would finally be their 'music for cars' album. i was wrong.

Nourry, Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:22 (six years ago)

i don't think their singles portend anything about the subsequent albums honestly

J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:23 (six years ago)

yeah there's literally still another 20 songs to go supposedly

Simon H., Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:24 (six years ago)
