it's not to say that this kind of track can't work. I like VU's "The Gift" and that's 8 minutes long. maybe something about the vocals being too upfront in the 1975 tracks

deej otm
― k3vin k., Thursday, 25 July 2019 15:44 (six years ago)
i listened once, that should do it.
― big city slam (Spottie), Thursday, 25 July 2019 16:01 (six years ago)
I like to think of it as the logical endpoint of a pop idea that started with Beyonce’s “Flawless”.
― Tim F, Thursday, 25 July 2019 21:33 (six years ago)
in that "flawless" is about waking up and this song puts you to sleep?
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 25 July 2019 22:01 (six years ago)
They should have gotten Baz Luhrmann instead.
― self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Thursday, 25 July 2019 22:14 (six years ago)
lol I think if you said to Matt "congratulations on making a sequel to The Sunscreen Song" he would probably kill himself.
― Tim F, Thursday, 25 July 2019 23:20 (six years ago)
looking forward to the version on the next album where the speech is autotuned or something
― ufo, Friday, 26 July 2019 02:23 (six years ago)
all the s/t intro tracks are p terrible imo, so im not putting much stock in this. i didn’t like the spoken word track on the previous album either tho so hopefully that’s the extent of it
― flopson, Saturday, 27 July 2019 05:23 (six years ago)
i thought it was fine on ILIWYS but otherwise completely skippable

even my least favorite 1975 song is good live
― american bradass (BradNelson), Monday, 12 August 2019 19:23 (five years ago)
video's gone, which track?
― ufo, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 01:06 (five years ago)
full band arrangement of “be my mistake”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9u62hnB-6ag
oh wow that's a lot better than the album version
― ufo, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 02:14 (five years ago)
they were so good when i saw them a month ago that i'm actually thinking travelling from lisbon to paris in november just to see them again at pitchfork music festival.
― Nourry, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 09:15 (five years ago)
New single in 3 hours?

― toby, Thursday, 22 August 2019 14:31 (five years ago)
they've gone Manson!
― Simon H., Thursday, 22 August 2019 18:39 (five years ago)
i think the video really sells the song
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 August 2019 18:41 (five years ago)
unrelated but the official 11M-view video for Give Yourself A Try has changed? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUzBfBqbSmc
― alpine static, Thursday, 22 August 2019 18:46 (five years ago)
I have not watched the video. I did listen to the song via Spotify, by queuing up and listening to the "The 1975" intro track first, which I recommend.
― MarkoP, Thursday, 22 August 2019 18:47 (five years ago)
i was not expecting this. still processing. but i was hoping this would finally be their 'music for cars' album. i was wrong.
― Nourry, Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:22 (five years ago)
i don't think their singles portend anything about the subsequent albums honestly
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:23 (five years ago)
yeah there's literally still another 20 songs to go supposedly
― Simon H., Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:24 (five years ago)
that's true.
― Nourry, Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:27 (five years ago)
Um. I can imagine that song being fun live, minus some of the more annoying effects, and I can also imagine the song is no more indicative of the album than "Song 2" was. But. Um. Yeah, no thanks. Reminds of the Vines or something.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:31 (five years ago)
this is the best fucking band of all time
― american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:32 (five years ago)
it made me think of battles
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:33 (five years ago)
oh man i dont like this at all.
― big city slam (Spottie), Thursday, 22 August 2019 20:10 (five years ago)
why are they trying to sound like jet?
― big city slam (Spottie), Thursday, 22 August 2019 20:11 (five years ago)
someone else compared it to refused and i think it’s somewhere between that and “song 2.” it extremely rules imo but i get why this would be radioactive to others
― american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 August 2019 20:47 (five years ago)
vocals kinda remind me of glassjaw
― diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Thursday, 22 August 2019 20:54 (five years ago)
not really into this, probably the first time the idea that this band can do pretty much anything hasn't worked out for me
― ufo, Thursday, 22 August 2019 23:00 (five years ago)
This sounds like Refused covering a Queens of the Stone Age song, which... I guess it could be worse as someone who grew up on Refused, QOTSA, Manson and "Song 2" — but not too long ago, Matty talking about this being their nighttime album, inspired by Burial and The Streets, stuff like that... so who really knows anything anymore?
― ilxor, Thursday, 22 August 2019 23:01 (five years ago)
Sounds like XTRMNTR era PRML SCRM to me.
― piscesx, Thursday, 22 August 2019 23:02 (five years ago)
would probably like it a lot if it did sound like XTRMNTR to me
― ufo, Thursday, 22 August 2019 23:08 (five years ago)
this song has returned us to the roots of this thread.... everyone throwing out highbrow/lowbrow comparisons that build out a compelling constellation of influences
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 August 2019 23:13 (five years ago)
I do miss the 3rd Eye Blind phase of this band :)
― big city slam (Spottie), Thursday, 22 August 2019 23:17 (five years ago)
This song sounds like Gregorian chants spliced with ZZ Top
― self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Thursday, 22 August 2019 23:18 (five years ago)
Every first single this band has put out has surprised me. This one might be the most out there, and I wouldn't say I like it a lot, but I can't help but love this band for continually making music that's further and further out of what I expect. In any case, video is great
― Vinnie, Thursday, 22 August 2019 23:20 (five years ago)
Go figure, I like the song better without the video playing at the same time.
― ilxor, Friday, 23 August 2019 00:21 (five years ago)
this is...not what I was expecting
― k3vin k., Friday, 23 August 2019 00:41 (five years ago)
hahaha haven't heard this but Battles, Refused, QOTSA are bands I would have bet a large amount of money would have never come up in this thread
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 23 August 2019 01:59 (five years ago)
huh wow....this is unexpected. too bad Buddyhead isn't around to write about this
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 23 August 2019 02:02 (five years ago)
can't believe this is them
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 23 August 2019 02:11 (five years ago)
It's like they sat down and asked, ok, which bands have we *not* been compared to before? And then decided to sound like that.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 23 August 2019 02:20 (five years ago)
Still waiting for their song that sounds like Jute Gyte.
― MarkoP, Friday, 23 August 2019 04:26 (five years ago)
I forget who said on Twitter that this is totally Icarus Line but they were right.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 23 August 2019 04:27 (five years ago)
That's a fair comparison all the way down to Joe Cardamone's hair.
― ilxor, Friday, 23 August 2019 04:47 (five years ago)
Not including their debut album, their lead single has always been their rock album opener:
Love Me > People > Give Yourself A Try
― self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Friday, 23 August 2019 04:50 (five years ago)
the comparisons that make the most sense to me are Refused and The Vines
expecting this is probably going to be their Melon Collie where they take the eclecticism to a ridiculous extreme and it's too long for its own good but the highs will be somehow worth it
