I believe I nominated Strict Machine, if that helps!

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 4 October 2019 13:09 (five years ago) link

Strict Machine is great but the Ewan Pearson remix is next level. I’ll definitely vote for his remix of Cortney Tidwell’s ‘Don’t Let The Stars Keep us Tangled Up’ which is in the same vein.

I forgot how great Akufen's "My Way" is. I actually removed it from my ballot before finding it on youtube for a re-listen. The sad thing is that I own this cd, too.

Just did exactly these same things! My CD is probably not more than 3 metres away. #TeamAkufen

so tempted to submit a ballot with 51 albums, I can't seem to make that last cut

sleeve, Friday, 4 October 2019 15:02 (five years ago) link

well fuck me. was entering my ballot when i realized the album version of Radiohead's Everything In It's Right Place isn't in the nominations list – just some disco remix.

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 4 October 2019 19:33 (five years ago) link

fwiw I was listening to the Spotify playlist and it's got the wrong version of Neko Case's Magpie to the Morning. That song appears on two different albums, Middle Cyclone (2009) and The Worse Things Get (2013).

sctttnnnt (pgwp), Friday, 4 October 2019 21:24 (five years ago) link

i concentrated only on albums today and my first pass was 116 and i kept some off on purpose. i'm going to have to put in like five hours to do this whole thing correctly. don't know if i will have that kind of time and just do a mixed ballot. i already know the tracks list will be harder to do. so yeah, this is impossible.

Bee OK, Friday, 4 October 2019 21:58 (five years ago) link

and might...

Thanks imago

Spending time with all these tracks nominees. Boy does ILM love house music

sctttnnnt (pgwp), Friday, 4 October 2019 23:28 (five years ago) link

I really wanted to listen at least a bit to everything on the tracks playlist, but I'm like a fifth of the way through and every time I hear a forgotten R&B hit from 2002, nostalgia overtakes it goes on my ballot and makes things much more complicated.

tangenttangent, Saturday, 5 October 2019 19:40 (five years ago) link

It seems to have disappeared from Spotify (besides an instrumental version), so here is a reminder of this wonderful Solange song:

tangenttangent, Saturday, 5 October 2019 20:13 (five years ago) link

I gave Sandcastle Disco a lot of points. Still mystified as to why that wasn't a huge hit.

kitchen person, Saturday, 5 October 2019 20:36 (five years ago) link

Not that I'm voting for it, but I'm assuming that whoever nominated Gorillaz - 19-2000 meant the remix version, because frankly

imago, Saturday, 5 October 2019 20:42 (five years ago) link

I know! It was on repeat in my house for like two years. Strange also how her sound now (still great) is such a departure from this. xp

tangenttangent, Saturday, 5 October 2019 20:42 (five years ago) link

The first Wilderness album is fucking immense. I hope I'm not the only one voting for it.

have just done a brutal first pass on the albums list, and having not clicked on any of these threads previously, I would like to insist before I go further that: tracks ballots should be expanded to 100 or 200, mixes / compilations should be a top ten in addition to albums, and there should be an EPs poll. thank you.

now let's play big lunch take little lunch (sic), Sunday, 6 October 2019 20:15 (five years ago) link

tracks ballot particularly brutal I agree, but at least it is equally brutal on us all

imago, Sunday, 6 October 2019 20:17 (five years ago) link

from an even more aggressive first swing through the tracks I am starting with a shortlist of 140, but Dollar Sign by Sticky feat. Stush is not nominated, so I'm afraid ILM as a whole must be deleted and replaced

Did "Seven Nation Army" really not get nominated? Lol.

Glenn Jones - Linden Avenue Stomp is included in the tracks playlist on Spotify but I don't see it on the Google list?

people complaining about albums or tracks not nominated are pathetic. why didn't they nominate those items themselves in the first place?

je est un autre, l'enfer c'est les autres (alex in mainhattan), Monday, 7 October 2019 09:05 (five years ago) link

i don't think ppl are complaining at anyone but themselves, more marvelling at the ever-unfolding absurdity that is trying to come up with these lists

you're pathetic ya dumb dumb!!!

blows with the wind donors (crüt), Monday, 7 October 2019 11:38 (five years ago) link

i nominated tons of tracks i just forgot that one till just now. the fuck are YOU gonna vote for smart guy?

blows with the wind donors (crüt), Monday, 7 October 2019 11:39 (five years ago) link

lol i was gonna do a post of songs that i was somewhat shocked and disheartened to see had not been nominated despite not having had room to nominate them myself

oh well, this is what happens when we're given a short ballot to work with! not necessarily a bad thing but it does lead to some surprise shutouts for some songs that might've been considered consensus-tho-low-enthusiasm shoo-ins

dyl, Monday, 7 October 2019 17:16 (five years ago) link

ugh how am i gonna make this deadline

blows with the wind donors (crüt), Monday, 7 October 2019 17:43 (five years ago) link

If anyone is still making a ballot and hasn't heard this, please check out Theo Bleckmann's (and Ben Monder's) version of "I Remember You". Nice atmospheric guitar sound from Monder and the emulation of CD-skipping glitch (done entirely live, as can be seen in multiple live videos) was really original and effective with the theme of the song.

Although I consider unweighted ballots to be fundamentally cowardly I tragically had to bow to time pressure and submit a 1/2 weighted 1/2 unweighted ballot for albums. Managed a fully weighted ballot for tracks though.

having to do some serious horse-trading between singles and albums lists, sorry Missy

voted

it was tough! my ballot is full of pop songs b/c i didn't happen upon my main source for discovering non-mainstream music (ilm) until 09 was nearly through. but i love them dearly and stand by all my choices.

i might have considered putting a particular sufjan stevens track on my ballot but i forgot about it so oh well, there isn't really anything i'd be happy to displace anyhow

dyl, Monday, 7 October 2019 23:59 (five years ago) link

for whatever reason i thought the veronicas' "untouched" had not been nominated but i'm pleased to see that's not the case (didn't have room to vote for it anyway)

dyl, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 00:01 (five years ago) link

Down to 109 albums. What a decade.

In terms of errors, someone seems to have nominated U2.

frogbs, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 13:25 (five years ago) link

i put in an albums ballot, don't much care about rating tracks on this timescale

ciderpress, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 13:29 (five years ago) link

Told myself I would listen to a bunch of 00s albums in order to make my ballot, ended up mostly just listening to every destroyer and album and a bunch of lightning bolt and of montreal. I guess should probably vote that way also if I'm being honest.

silverfish, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 16:26 (five years ago) link

i voted - imperfect ballot but i wasn't willing to spend hours on it making it perfect and just wanted to get it sent in

Mordy, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 16:34 (five years ago) link
