Spending time with all these tracks nominees. Boy does ILM love house music

I really wanted to listen at least a bit to everything on the tracks playlist, but I'm like a fifth of the way through and every time I hear a forgotten R&B hit from 2002, nostalgia overtakes it goes on my ballot and makes things much more complicated.

It seems to have disappeared from Spotify (besides an instrumental version), so here is a reminder of this wonderful Solange song:

I gave Sandcastle Disco a lot of points. Still mystified as to why that wasn't a huge hit.

have just done a brutal first pass on the albums list, and having not clicked on any of these threads previously, I would like to insist before I go further that: tracks ballots should be expanded to 100 or 200, mixes / compilations should be a top ten in addition to albums, and there should be an EPs poll. thank you.

from an even more aggressive first swing through the tracks I am starting with a shortlist of 140, but Dollar Sign by Sticky feat. Stush is not nominated, so I'm afraid ILM as a whole must be deleted and replaced

people complaining about albums or tracks not nominated are pathetic. why didn't they nominate those items themselves in the first place?

i don't think ppl are complaining at anyone but themselves, more marvelling at the ever-unfolding absurdity that is trying to come up with these lists

i nominated tons of tracks i just forgot that one till just now. the fuck are YOU gonna vote for smart guy?

lol i was gonna do a post of songs that i was somewhat shocked and disheartened to see had not been nominated despite not having had room to nominate them myself

oh well, this is what happens when we're given a short ballot to work with! not necessarily a bad thing but it does lead to some surprise shutouts for some songs that might've been considered consensus-tho-low-enthusiasm shoo-ins

If anyone is still making a ballot and hasn't heard this, please check out Theo Bleckmann's (and Ben Monder's) version of "I Remember You". Nice atmospheric guitar sound from Monder and the emulation of CD-skipping glitch (done entirely live, as can be seen in multiple live videos) was really original and effective with the theme of the song.

Although I consider unweighted ballots to be fundamentally cowardly I tragically had to bow to time pressure and submit a 1/2 weighted 1/2 unweighted ballot for albums. Managed a fully weighted ballot for tracks though.

it was tough! my ballot is full of pop songs b/c i didn't happen upon my main source for discovering non-mainstream music (ilm) until 09 was nearly through. but i love them dearly and stand by all my choices.

i might have considered putting a particular sufjan stevens track on my ballot but i forgot about it so oh well, there isn't really anything i'd be happy to displace anyhow

for whatever reason i thought the veronicas' "untouched" had not been nominated but i'm pleased to see that's not the case (didn't have room to vote for it anyway)

Told myself I would listen to a bunch of 00s albums in order to make my ballot, ended up mostly just listening to every destroyer and album and a bunch of lightning bolt and of montreal. I guess should probably vote that way also if I'm being honest.

for the most part it holds up. i am removing br*nd n*w but i think that's the only difference beyond some minor ranking adjustments

On dis mammoth task again. I could have sworn someone (ArchCarrier?) nominated Johan's 'Pergola' album, but it's not in the document of nominations.

Ah my bad, checked it now, ArchCarrier nominated a single of that album, not the album itself. Fuck. Will have to leave off my favourite 'this will tip you over the edge if you are suicidal' album now (no really, I love it dearly).
