Voted. Didn't manage a tracks ballot - too stressful by far.

extension though

american bradass (BradNelson), Tuesday, 8 October 2019 16:57 (five years ago) link

i actually made an albums of the '00s list a few years ago, i just need this for the sweet sweet tracks

american bradass (BradNelson), Tuesday, 8 October 2019 16:57 (five years ago) link

Does your album list of some years ago still hold up or did you make quite some changes? Just curious

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 17:17 (five years ago) link

for the most part it holds up. i am removing br*nd n*w but i think that's the only difference beyond some minor ranking adjustments

american bradass (BradNelson), Tuesday, 8 October 2019 17:20 (five years ago) link

Yeah :/ I'm still struggling with them but they won't make my cut either.

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 17:22 (five years ago) link

On dis mammoth task again. I could have sworn someone (ArchCarrier?) nominated Johan's 'Pergola' album, but it's not in the document of nominations.

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 18:46 (five years ago) link

Ah my bad, checked it now, ArchCarrier nominated a single of that album, not the album itself. Fuck. Will have to leave off my favourite 'this will tip you over the edge if you are suicidal' album now (no really, I love it dearly).

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 18:48 (five years ago) link

I'm surprised no one has pointed this out as I know there are going to be a rush of people voting for it: for King Creosote's KC Rules OK, there's no - between the artist and the album name.

tbf i'm def voting for at least one chinaski nomination

All power to you - it's fucking fantastic.

The closer you geeeeeeeeeeet *guitaaaars*

imago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 19:27 (five years ago) link

*i

imago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 19:36 (five years ago) link

look it's been a long day ok

imago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 19:36 (five years ago) link

xxp "Tumble and Fall" is such a brilliant opener that I don't think I've even heard the rest of Pergola.

ArchCarrier, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 20:49 (five years ago) link

Gah, you totally should.

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 20:50 (five years ago) link

Will do!

ArchCarrier, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 20:52 (five years ago) link

I sent in a slightly shorter mixed ballot today--35 songs instead of 50--and made up my own point system so that everything averaged out to 53 points per song. I'm really annoying that way. If that doesn't work, just adjust as you see fit (or forget the mixed part and give every song 53 points).

clemenza, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 20:54 (five years ago) link

The Closer You Get is up there with Mclusky Do Dallas as a pinnacle of guitar music for this decade and about as far from imago widdlywoo music as you could possibly get, do not let his enthusiasm discourage you winkyface

Jonathan Hellion Mumble, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 20:56 (five years ago) link

(was gunna vote but my coffee table and the general contents of my eyeline are putting me off, it's all too much and alcohol)

Jonathan Hellion Mumble, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 20:59 (five years ago) link

aw, you should vote. you should definitely vote if the closer you get is high in your ballot

imago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 21:00 (five years ago) link

everyone still has nearly a week anyway!

imago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 21:00 (five years ago) link

A week is a comfortable reassuring measure of time but then again alcohol, oh look Hood Cold House is in new answers, ok that's 3 albums right there, this is doable...

Jonathan Hellion Mumble, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 21:09 (five years ago) link

Vote Hood Cold House, then alcohol again, then all is "well" (but vote Hood Cold House)

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 21:11 (five years ago) link

Actually scanning the nominations list I will do this, midweek maybe wednesday around teatime

Jonathan Hellion Mumble, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 21:13 (five years ago) link

The ONLY WORTHWHILE CLEARLAKE ALBUM, fuckit I'll do the albums tonight in a drunkit haze, maybe work on the tracks (the more important aspect obv) in the week

Jonathan Hellion Mumble, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 21:23 (five years ago) link

Is there one place with all the album nominations? Because I don't see Blueberry Boat on the pastebin list

kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 21:26 (five years ago) link

wait why is Blueberry Boat not in the pastebin link?

― sleeve, Thursday, September 26, 2019 12:35 PM (one week ago)

xp oh it's under "The Fiery Furnaces" along with Gallowsbird's Bark, carry on

― sleeve, Thursday, September 26, 2019 12:49 PM (one week ago)

now let's play big lunch take little lunch (sic), Tuesday, 8 October 2019 21:33 (five years ago) link

Never mind I found it...there is some confusion with the "The" bands.

kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 21:36 (five years ago) link

Had the same reaction and then found it under The Firery...

Bee OK, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 21:40 (five years ago) link

Haha delete post

Bee OK, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 21:42 (five years ago) link

Gallowsbird's Bark prolly gunna narrowly miss the cut, Blechberry Spit getting ranked where it belongs

Jonathan Hellion Mumble, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 21:49 (five years ago) link

Ok, done albums, if I haven't messed up the process. I put Six By Seven up there but not as high as Hood, is everyone happy?

Jonathan Hellion Mumble, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 22:22 (five years ago) link

The ONLY WORTHWHILE CLEARLAKE ALBUM

spoiler: this (Lido) is one of my favourite albums of all time

imago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 22:26 (five years ago) link

the other Clearlake albums are tbf good, Lido is lifechanging

Blueberry Boat is by 'The Fiery Furnaces' on the album cover, that's good enough for me. (Also lifechanging)

imago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 22:27 (five years ago) link

I'll remember 'Blechberry Spit' during the rollout though :P

imago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 22:28 (five years ago) link

I actually think like 3/4 of my ballot is your type of thing, to my eternal shame. Blueberry Boat can fuck right off tho

Jonathan Hellion Mumble, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 22:29 (five years ago) link

...into the top 100

fwiw I almost suggested a demerit system where you could take 20, 40, 60, 80 or 100 points away from a track or album of your choice, perhaps entitled the James Murphy Bonus Prize. fortunately thought better of it

imago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 22:32 (five years ago) link

Lido came along at just the right time for me, when I had just stopped doing drugs and was out of university with no degree and no job and was fried and sad and not sure what to do with my life, it felt like someone had captured my life and put it on cd, almost in a scary literal way.

Cedars is also very good. 'Almost The Same' might well be their best track.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Tuesday, 8 October 2019 22:34 (five years ago) link

my one-sentence review of Lido reads This album is a miracle coalescing from the Sussex sea air and capturing what all British indie ever was attempting to capture on their first goddamn try and really i don't have much to add, it is overwhelmingly resonant with the boredom and joy of being young, British and uncertain. I suppose I could add that the songwriting is exceptionally strong, but it's the mood above all that sustains it. i play it every xmas

imago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 22:37 (five years ago) link

I was kinda on board for a wee while after, but Lido was kinda sui generis from where I am sat. They gradually degenerated into trad zzzz
er that

Jonathan Hellion Mumble, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 22:38 (five years ago) link

Anyway I put FRIGHTENED RABBIT at 2, youse should all check that out, I'm not expecting a great deal of appreciation for it but that was pretty much my life in that period, I didn't get much Sussex sea air I suppose

Jonathan Hellion Mumble, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 22:43 (five years ago) link

753 points, 18 votes, 1 first place, 3 anti-votes, 2 worst place

^^^is this the future we wish for our descendents

imago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 22:50 (five years ago) link

(will check out frightened rabbit!)

imago, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 22:52 (five years ago) link

I DID IT. Actually managed a weighted ballot for both albums and tracks. Only a small amount of handwringing over the fact that I am, at the end of the day, indie schmindie (although aside from Spoon in the top ten, I think I fall outside the most predictable quadrant of that cliche.)

sctttnnnt (pgwp), Tuesday, 8 October 2019 23:07 (five years ago) link

Frightened Rabbit also very high on my ballot.
