I mean there’s been a noticeable trend of Enya-house music in the past decade and Grimes was doing variations on it even before this single. I don’t think this is Grimes following trends but rather continuing on a style she had explored previously.

I’m slowly realizing I hate all this futuristic shit. I was a huge fan of her melancholy bedroom pop—huge huge fan—and also loved her foray into exuberant art pop, which seemed life affirming and artistically brave. But this all seems weird. If it’s sincere, she’s creepy now, and if it’s a troll, what’s the point?

i think she's having fun deliberately saying provocative nonsense that it's not immediately obvious how serious she is about (so trolling basically) after all the frustrations she's had with the media reporting her every word in the past

Maybe idk. She seems really fascinating with the singularity and these types of techno-utopian ideas. Maybe it’s all an artistic conceit but who knows.

It’s pretty clear that she’s someone who just says shit without thinking, I mean give her a mic or some space to rant and she’ll say a bunch of wild shit because I think that’s simply how her mind operates. I do doubt she’s actually trolling as much as just rambling and having fun with her thought process, without regard for what anyone else feels about it. I think a big part of the problem is Grimes' techno-utopian shit just feels a bit naff and laughable. It's much more Sigue Sigue Sputnik/Network 7 than Blade Runner.
