first is an arena, second's a stadium

Stadiums are for summer tours, like Taylor Swift or the Stones or Kenny Chesney's "Chillaxification Tour."
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 18 November 2019 17:13 (four years ago) link
Enclosed Stadiums are still a thing.

For sure. But acts touring stadiums I presume aren't going to go on a big stadium tour and just skip the cities that don't have enclosed stadiums. I'm not sure I've heard of any act going on a winter stadium tour, but I could be wrong!

They also get to play castles over here in the UK.

I just had a mental vision of Taylor Swift doing a gig in an inflatable play castle. It would work!

"She's hosting several A-listers at her Rhode Island mansion for the Fourth Of July weekend.
And Taylor Swift has pulled out all the stops to ensure her celebrity guests have a holiday they'll never forget.
The 26-year-old has transformed her $17.75million home into the ultimate party paradise, with a huge red, white and blue inflatable slide installed next to her swimming pool, complete with mats to zoom down it on."
Self XPS Of course, Katy Perry wishes she could sellout a bouncy castle these days.

― imago, Monday, 18 November 2019 21:08 (four years ago) link
if you have a slide *and* you have a pool, shouldn’t one land in the other? this seems like bad feng shui.

Worth noting (or maybe not) that quote was from 2015, and she apparently stopped those parties after 2016.

With her dwindling sales and popularity she's got to watch her budget, no more spendthrift inflatable pool slide rentals.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 18 November 2019 22:22 (four years ago) link
US arenas generally have to book about six to twelve months in advance and the amount of money involved in a tour is so much that it doesn't happen unless everyone involved understands the ROI is gonna justify it that far out... that said, i'm certainly noticing an influx of comparatively younger acts graduating quickly to arena status (on the east coast at least) to better/faster capitalize on immediate success.

a good test for new york (which is a skewed market anyway because of industry) might be to see how many acts went from playing the main building to whatever they're calling the former felt forum space now (the theater at msg i believe).

I kinda think Scooter is right, that this has more to do with advertising the re-recordings of the earlier albums than it has any kind of agreement that could be made.
― Frederik B, Monday, 25 November 2019 18:42 (four years ago) link
The whole thing is so crazy at this point. No matter what is at the core of this agreement, where surely Taylor is in the right, sending a mob of fans after enemies, then staying silent as it devolves into closed offices and death threats, is so beyond defensible. It's abhorrent behaviour. And nobody speaks up about it? Are people afraid that they'll get death threats as well? Or not able to handle more than one villain at a time?
― Frederik B, Monday, 25 November 2019 18:45 (four years ago) link
She performed her old songs at the AMAs last night, so guess she prevailed on that piece at least. Her Twitter feed has moved on, nothing more said about the negotiations.
― FODMAP of the reef (morrisp), Monday, 25 November 2019 18:52 (four years ago) link
I don't think anyone ever could explain how she was supposed to be prohibited from performing her old songs. That's not up to whoever owns the masters to decide, I think.
― Frederik B, Monday, 25 November 2019 18:55 (four years ago) link
it was more a matter of whether recording the live performance would break the contract that allows her to begin re-recording the old songs a year from now
― Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Monday, 25 November 2019 19:01 (four years ago) link
But is that a thing as well? Because presumably a lot of artists, who has been on more than one label, do televised/streamed live performances.
― Frederik B, Monday, 25 November 2019 19:09 (four years ago) link
Who knows what Scooter and his lawyers are up to, but would they have had a leg to stand on legally?
Big Machine has been saying no, both in their earlier statement and Scooter's "public letter":
As the world now knows you can and should perform any song you would like at the AMAs. I have never and would never say otherwise. You do not need anyone’s permission to do so legally but I am stating it here clearly and publicly so there is no more debate or confusion.
...but maybe they were originally trying to pull something else.
― FODMAP of the reef (morrisp), Monday, 25 November 2019 19:15 (four years ago) link
It's not like I trust a guy named Scooter, lol :) I just don't get the legal aspect.
― Frederik B, Monday, 25 November 2019 19:16 (four years ago) link
There is something in the contract which allows Taylor to start re-recording her old songs sometime in 2020. But if she does so before that date she loses the right to do so in the future. I think the fight was over whether Big Machine would claim that if Taylor’s performance showed up anywhere other than the live broadcast it would be a breach of the contract. That’s why their statements kept emphasizing that they could not prevent her from performing old songs in a live setting.

Wow, that is a lovely remix.
I was at a holiday street fair last weekend, and a girl with a gtr & microphone was absolutely murdering this song (like, in a bad way).
― FODMAP of the reef (morrisp), Tuesday, 26 November 2019 19:41 (four years ago) link
I wouldn't say this is an improvement because I don't think there's a lot of room to improve on "Lover" (it's already great) but this is a remix that deserves to exist...which is a lot.
