hmm.
for good music or for LOLs?
cos Live wins the latter easily

Yeah but do they have an album produced by Steve Albini?
― pomenitul, Friday, 3 January 2020 03:38 (four years ago) link
Bush actually hand a handful of songs that I still actually like a lot. and a bunch I thought were armpit funk
"Greedy Fly", "Everything Zen", "Tendency to Start Fires" were fun tho
"Machine Head" was awful for its "oh lookie octave guitar riff meant to sound intense and edgy and sounds like a kid in a Sam Ash showing off for his dimwitted friend"
― looking for Mon in Alderaan places (Neanderthal), Friday, 3 January 2020 03:38 (four years ago) link
"Swim" was a good deep cut too I guess

Live , I actually like Secret Samadhi and lots of Throwing Copper, but Ed Kowalczyk had some of the weirdest intonation of any singer ever.
lightning "creshes"?

Both bands had good songs
― brimstead, Friday, 3 January 2020 03:43 (four years ago) link
Both bands played hard
and yeah I know the hall of fame thread it inspired. but I remember thinking "why does he think that word has more than one syllable" half the time
xxpost
"Dolphin's Cry" was a bridge too far
Bush was a bigger influence on fashion (with those shotbead necklaces) than any band in these polls too

this is unfair. both are dope and STP is clearly gonna lose by a lot.

isn't there supposed to be some kind of seeding process so matchups like this don't happen

in the finals yes but this is merely the 3 seed vs 14 seed match
― ciderpress, Friday, 3 January 2020 05:56 (four years ago) link
GBV, by default, as 10 minutes ago I wasn't 100% sure I'd heard STP. Turns out that I know "Vasoline" and "Plush", at least. The former is... not bad, actually.
(Also discovered a weirdly pertinent upcoming local event: "together for the first time in Australia will be Live, Bush and Stone Temple Pilots!" Bless.)
― Nag! Nag! Nag!, Friday, 3 January 2020 05:58 (four years ago) link
GBV has songs that sound like "Still Remains."
I probably like "Lady Picture Show" better than "As We Go Up We Go Down"

... LOL Britishes.
Tbh this is obv a disaster as a poll but I did think GBV worked as a great foil for STP, maybe teasing out what the latter band actually did well rather than just their rep
― PLEB AF (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 3 January 2020 08:15 (four years ago) link

anyone looking for a starting point, Human Amusements at Hourly Rates has to be one of the two or three best indie rock "greatest hits" ever (not much competition, I know)

If your band doesn't have an album that tops GBV's odd-and-sods boxset bonus disc King Shit and the Golden Boys then your discography in general is likely to pale in comparison.
