I really loved “violence” and “so heavy I fell through the earth”, looking forward to hearing this

brimstead, Monday, 2 March 2020 18:56 (five years ago)

After two listens I'd say there's a greater confidence here. Doesn't wash over you like some of the earlier stuff. Wish it really rocked more or had straight up perverse disco like "violence".

Love suicide humor, but I guess she has it coming

omar little, Tuesday, 3 March 2020 14:54 (five years ago)

Accordingly, the earthiest musical moment on her new album, the strummed acoustic guitars on the track “Delete Forever” (which shares its bizarro-country vibes with 2015’s “California”) is not what it sounds like. “Actually, hilariously,” she says, “that guitar is from a sample pack that I chopped up.” She fakes it so real she’s beyond fake.

no wonder it sounds so off to me then

Good album.

I wish I’d been able to get a better shot of it, but you get the main idea. The album art is off to the side

I wonder if Grimes' & Katy Perry's babies are gonna grow up as BFF's.

two weeks pass...

I really like Miss Anthropocene, far more that I expected to anyway.

It did give me a small smile to read this line from the Pitchfork review...

and in a relationship with a man whose real-time net worth literally jumped from $41 billion to $44.2 billion between drafts of this review.

...then click the link and see it's dropped to $30.5 billion since.

I find it weird you correlate artistic merits with economics.

braised cod, Friday, 27 March 2020 16:06 (five years ago)

I don't. Those were two separate thoughts. I enjoy Grimes a lot. I think her boyfriend is a pretentious asshole and I feel no sympathy for his fortune dwindling.

I find it weird you thought I explicitly said I connected the two.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 27 March 2020 16:13 (five years ago)

Sorry. I misunderstood your point.

braised cod, Friday, 27 March 2020 16:18 (five years ago)

one month passes...

Congratulations to Grimes and Elon Musk! Their newborn son, who Musk says is named X Æ A-12, arrived last night https://t.co/7eRjVMvul2

X Æ A-12 is a strong name. irish i think.

believe it's actually Gaelic, meaning "one who'll be punched"

Morton Koopa Jr. Sings Elvis (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 5 May 2020 13:37 (five years ago)

the thing is, people rebel against their parents and also learn from their shortcomings. X Æ A-12 will likely grow up to be a very well-adjusted, friendly guy. maybe an i love hoops poster.

Nice thing about having a version number in your name is you don't need to go "jr." You can just increment the version number.

excited to hear xæa-12 when they play casa del popolo in 20 years

•X, the unknown variable ⚔️
•Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)
•A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent 🤍

man, "x, the unknown variable" is just the worst. That shit is just meaningless convention like "dave".

Morton Koopa Jr. Sings Elvis (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 6 May 2020 01:15 (five years ago)

"Dave" is potentially meaningul, I guess

Morton Koopa Jr. Sings Elvis (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 6 May 2020 01:20 (five years ago)

"our favorite aircraft"

The Mandymoorian (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 6 May 2020 01:54 (five years ago)

lovecraft to aircraft and it only took 1 billion dollars

Morton Koopa Jr. Sings Elvis (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 6 May 2020 02:01 (five years ago)

her album basically vanished without trace, it seems

"non violent" navy aircraft that merely provided the intel for how the violence was to be carried out

yeah...naming your child after a Lockheed-built spy plane used in Vietnam is genuinely mind-boggling and not in a whimsical celebrities-are-weird way

Grimes trolling us all with her choice of partner and baby name.

It what sense? It’ll hopefully appear on year-end best-of lists

i just listened to it again yesterday i think it's great

Please tell me she’s trolling with that name.

Morton Koopa Jr. Sings Elvis (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 6 May 2020 15:27 (five years ago)

" her album basically vanished without trace, it seems"

well it's hard to release an album in the middle of a pandemic plus she couldn't do much promotion for it considering she was pregnant. It's a good album.

akm, Wednesday, 6 May 2020 15:47 (five years ago)

it didn't really vanish any more than almost all albums do these days

actually, fiona came through and reminded everyone what an actual good album sounds like.

the songs from last year I liked way better than anything off the album :(
