Is anyone actually knocking them for that

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 19:21 (five years ago)

the run of the last six songs on a brief inquiry is so good

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 20:47 (five years ago)

this album is so many things but it's the opposite of tight

cant wait to hear

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 21:30 (five years ago)

I did try to find the leak but gave up after a while, will wait for Friday I guess.

Matty saying "like hats or spirit of eden" is trolling the OG nerd-stans ITT (and me in particular), but coincidentally I have been listening to Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri's 'Stories Across Borders' which (a) is the exact midpoint of those two records and (b) is 35 minutes long, and if the 1975 give me something in that vein next I'll take it.

Tim F, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 22:25 (five years ago)

... and then I clicked on the Blue Nile thread and discovered soundslike has used a track from that album for his latest Blue Nile tribute mix.

Tim F, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 22:27 (five years ago)

of course

Spottie, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 23:28 (five years ago)

they were using "the end" as the live intro to "somebody else" last year

ufo, Thursday, 21 May 2020 00:38 (five years ago)

when do albums generally get posted to streaming sites? i don't normally pay attn to shit like that but i will stay up Thursday nite for this if it's midnight Eastern or w/e

alpine static, Thursday, 21 May 2020 00:46 (five years ago)

I can't believe Simon listened to this album before I did (waiting to listen on release date like a True Stan)

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Thursday, 21 May 2020 00:52 (five years ago)

there's one thing i know for sure and it's that "shiny collarbone" rules

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 21 May 2020 00:54 (five years ago)

alpine its often at midnight EST but not always the case

Spottie, Thursday, 21 May 2020 00:54 (five years ago)

I'm falling in love with it everytime I hear it.

Nourry, Thursday, 21 May 2020 00:56 (five years ago)

I love this thread

'what should i say' is such a masterpiece. and i really wish that 'then because she goes' would last a little bit longer.

Nourry, Thursday, 21 May 2020 01:04 (five years ago)

if not an exact match in sound i'm gonna say in spirit (and in length lol) this is the 1975's smashing pumpkins adore

where's that posts very much in character thread

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 21 May 2020 01:12 (five years ago)

i feel like it's closer to their mellon collie in spirit, i get the adore comparison because of the dual electronics/folk directions they pushed in but adore still manages to be much more singular in vibe while mellon collie is the real stylistic grab bag

ufo, Thursday, 21 May 2020 01:18 (five years ago)

i keep waiting for "what should i say" to get corny the more i play it but instead i'm becoming convinced it's one of the greatest songs i've ever heard

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 May 2020 04:21 (five years ago)

lots of cool behind-the-scenes stuff here: https://www.mindshower.ai/ as well as stems for some of the singles

ufo, Thursday, 21 May 2020 04:58 (five years ago)

hearing matty's a capellas this clearly is wild

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 May 2020 07:23 (five years ago)

the swirling ambient synth arpeggios in "i think there's something you should know" are so loveless

ufo, Thursday, 21 May 2020 07:41 (five years ago)

really wish they'd given us the "frail state of mind" stems

ufo, Thursday, 21 May 2020 07:43 (five years ago)

i'd like to meet myself and swap clothes
i think there's some place i should go

is the vocal melody of 'roadkill' the best piece of music on earth? i think so.

Nourry, Thursday, 21 May 2020 11:21 (five years ago)

i've been waiting for youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

"Me & You Together Song" is the best melody on earth.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 21 May 2020 20:11 (five years ago)

i think my favorite songs on this are "yeah i know" and "bagsy not in net"

I love this album but no amount of resequencing could make this album less messy, should have ended with "Don't Worry" which of course has wrecked me

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Friday, 22 May 2020 03:21 (five years ago)

i maintain the sequencing could have at least been less jarring. "don't worry" into "guys" is a perfect way to close the album though

ufo, Friday, 22 May 2020 03:29 (five years ago)

lol the p4k 8.0 is such a hedge

ripersnifle, Friday, 22 May 2020 05:18 (five years ago)

track-by-track notes here in the "editors's notes". matty confirms "the end" is an arrangement of "hnscc" among other tidbits

ufo, Friday, 22 May 2020 05:28 (five years ago)

Didn’t think I liked this band, but I like this. Should I go back and revisit the two last ones?

Mule, Friday, 22 May 2020 07:45 (five years ago)

you're asking the wrong thread, man, everyone here hates them

alpine static, Friday, 22 May 2020 07:51 (five years ago)

me, on the other hand, i like them and i'm awake, so i'd say: yes, but don't stop at two, go for three

alpine static, Friday, 22 May 2020 07:52 (five years ago)

don't forget the EPs

the further back you go in their albums, the more they sound like "if you're too shy" so unless you really don't like that one go for it

ufo, Friday, 22 May 2020 08:20 (five years ago)

I am only up to "Tonight" but I already like this more than the last album, which I did like but not as much as the first two albums and mostly for the singles. I'm really impressed by the breadth but more importantly the consistency of the album tracks so far, many as strong as what's been released. it'll take a few listens to really unpack this though, given the variety and number of tracks

oh wow "Shiny Collarbone" is out there even for this album

Vinnie, Friday, 22 May 2020 09:38 (five years ago)

omg "What Should I Say". this song is such a jam. and I'm only now realizing that the band rarely do minor key songs, right?

Vinnie, Friday, 22 May 2020 09:58 (five years ago)

yes! and the debut

k3vin k., Friday, 22 May 2020 10:23 (five years ago)

i actually can't think of a single minor key song they've done apart from "what should i say"

This is interesting, I really like that one. Maybe I could have liked them all along? I remember not responding to the last one at all.

Mule, Friday, 22 May 2020 11:15 (five years ago)

Will do a review this weekend

Mule, Friday, 22 May 2020 11:16 (five years ago)

Certainly few where it's clearly a minor key xp they have some like "Somebody Else" which are ambiguous

Vinnie, Friday, 22 May 2020 11:30 (five years ago)

"somebody else" is lydian i think? but i'm no expert
