So I'm probably the last person to learn this, but apparently she's not singing "shocked" here at 1'12, 2'00 and 2'46:

Nice list Alfred. Nice to see you mention the quality of some of her albums. Body Language, X and Aphrodite are all pretty underrated.
Would be great to see a Kylie poll on here one day.

i've been wanting to run one for ages

That would be awesome!

The new song "Magic" reminded me of another recent song I couldn't put my finger on until I read the YouTube comments and realized it was Katy Perry's "Chained to the Rhythm"
anyway it's not bad or anything but the similarity is a bit too much for me tbh
― self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Thursday, 24 September 2020 11:34 (four years ago) link
guess it's for the best that i struggle to remember what "chained to the rhythm" was like
think this is another great one
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 25 September 2020 15:48 (four years ago) link
definitely not too similar to 'chained to the rhythm' for me. one thing about that song is that the lyrics sucked while these lyrics are great. i love everything about the new song. i loved 'say something' too. lol i didn't expect to like new kylie especially this year but like she is so so good at the highest form of generic disco pop it makes me want to cry.

wrt the katie perry song it represents a type of major-hit pop song that wants to look like it 'has something to say' but really just makes a virtue out of submission to the powers that be - i gag at that sort of thing. with these new kylie songs she just sounds so refreshed and focused on this goal of achieving pure dance pop transcendence it bowls me over completely. i'm buying it all lol. i didn't like 'golden' much.

she looks SO GOOD in that blue dress

another good one!

Great album but I dunno if it's everything going on or what but it's going in one ear and out the other
― self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Friday, 6 November 2020 05:00 (three years ago) link
on first listen it's all just fine. no real duds but there's nothing really to elevate it and make me want to come back to it either
― ufo, Friday, 6 November 2020 12:23 (three years ago) link
the speed-up & solo in "dance floor darling" is quite cool though
― ufo, Friday, 6 November 2020 12:27 (three years ago) link
This set of tracks seems super generic but I'll give them a few tries. Maybe a few of them will start to pop.

― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 6 November 2020 18:26 (three years ago) link
^^ yes.
Between this album, Dua Lipa, Jessie Ware, and Kylie Minogue's, it's been a banner year for post-disco awesomeness.

This is a really likeable album. I don't see it sticking and some of the production is a bit Hype Machine Remixes 2008, but she's so endearing and charismatic even when it feels a little bland.

Feel like Sophie Ellis-Bextor could get those Instagram living room disco covers into an album we would be living through a total renaissance
― boxedjoy, Saturday, 7 November 2020 11:18 (three years ago) link
That unexpected tempo change on Dancefloor Darling is one of my favourite musical moments of the year.
Great album.

― Michael F Gill, Saturday, 14 November 2020 00:28 (three years ago) link
i think this is probably better than future nostalgia as far as post-disco pop this year
definitely the best kylie album in a decade
― ufo, Saturday, 14 November 2020 00:33 (three years ago) link
I don't think it's a great album, certainly not as imaginatively produced as Roisin Murphy, Jessie Ware, and Dua Lipa's, say -- what a year! But I like half of it.
― Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 14 November 2020 00:33 (three years ago) link
it's good-not-great but still incredibly solid. a lot of little great moments like the "get me to the weekend!" mini bass solo on "monday blues"
― ufo, Saturday, 14 November 2020 00:47 (three years ago) link
Between this album, Dua Lipa, Jessie Ware, and (Roisin)'s, it's been a banner year for post-disco awesomeness.
Also for consideration on the pile, Horse Meat Disco's debut album, including four Amy Douglas lead vocals, two Kathy Sledge leads, and one N'Dea Davenport.

tbh i have just replayed the first six tracks a number of times so i don't think i've gotten there yet. i will try DFD and check back.

gonna assume you intended to write Roísín Murphy there.
I get grouping these four albums together as some mini-zeitgeist, but Kylie's is bringing up the rear by a considerable distance.
― Johnny Fever, Saturday, 14 November 2020 05:54 (three years ago) link
*at a considerable distance makes more sense. It's late.

Playing all four records (plus Annie's) back-to-back this weekend and having the best time. xpost
Disagree that Kylie's is the worst - it's about on par with Future Nostalgia for me.
― Roz, Sunday, 15 November 2020 04:05 (three years ago) link
Ware > Murphy >>>> Dua Lipa >>>>>>>>>>>>> Kylie
The Annie is a different thing imo, and I would've loved it in 2014 more than I do now.

Disco LP debuted at #1 in the UK: she has now had #1 albums there in five calendar decades.
(she didn't get a #1 in Australia until the 2000s.)

Ware > Dua > Roisin > Kylie for me
Trust me, I’m more disappointed in myself for the order of the middle two than anyone in here could be

― Four Seasons Total Manscaping (forksclovetofu), Monday, 16 November 2020 05:49 (three years ago) link
idk if it's weird to talk about the songwriting on a dance-pop record but the real strength on this record for me is the way the melodies move. i get ppl's issues with the production, it's certainly broad, but i think the songs have really interesting and catchy interlocking parts
