You guys talk like going on Reddit is something that healthy-minded people do. Been on Parler lately?

a good number of people on this site go on RYM, which is basically /mu/

my answer will remain the same as in the post you're replaying to!

okay I looked at the Kylie reddit and the top threads are:

- Hi fellow kylie lovelies - I am loving Disco Tv on YouTube and thought you all might like it too - it’s a wonderful mix of all of Miss Minogue’s fabulous videos (including lyric videos for the Disco album) has really cheered me up and hope it makes someone else smile 🥰

- When she was on the Voice (photo)

- Kylie Minogue Breaks Down 17 Looks From 1988 to Now | Life in Looks | Vogue (youtube link, 1 reply)

- Disco debuts at 25 on the Billboard 200, her highest-charting U.S. album since Aphrodite (5 replies wishing she would tour)

- Kylie Minogue - Blame It On The Boogie [Mike Walsh Show 1987] (youtube link, no replies)

- Spotted in Sydney this morning (photo of a flyposter, 5 replies asking where the cassette is sold)

not an argument against there being absolutely horrible subreddits elsewhere but this is even less enthusiasm than I'd have expected, let alone any negativity

Do Gaga fans go HAM over mixed reviews? I think of the Little Monsters as peaceful.

members of all 'stanbases' are fully capable of stooping to horrific lows, and indeed do so somewhat regularly. while yes the contingent overall skews gay, male and young, plenty of these folks are supposedly grown up too! pretty horrifying

dyl, Saturday, 21 November 2020 04:06 (three years ago) link

I don't see why people are surprised grownups can do this, has anyone ever met a republican, or one of the adults who sneers at people online for morally neutral things they find embarrassing

I can honestly say I’ve never known anyone IRL whom I thought had the capacity to launch personal attacks at a writer over a music review.

no offense but you're on this board, so you do

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Sunday, 22 November 2020 01:46 (three years ago) link

maybe that doesn't qualify as IRL but there are many people here who have personally attacked me over my opinions about bands or my "insane" way of listening to music

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Sunday, 22 November 2020 01:47 (three years ago) link

I might say Noodle Vague is insane for laboriously relistening to alternate mixes so many times that it's slightly dragging out the results of the MC Tunes poll, but it's just out of admiration for his process

I think this album is good and I'm sorry people are terrible, it's just a review. :(

PS Supernova is def the best track here.

Besides “A Second To Midnight”, I also came around to liking “Kiss of Life” a lot. I think both tracks are as good (or better) than anything on Disco.

I still like disco

Also, this might be better on an Underworld thread, but one of my favorite things is that you can, using remixes/alternate mixes, re-imagine the self-tilted Kylie Minogue album to sound way more like dubnobasswithmyheadman than you'd ever expect. Thanks Brothers in Rhythm.

ok i need to hear that.

i'm very late to kylie beyond a few big singles. does anyone want to rep a few of their favorite house remixes? there have to be a few, right? i can't find anything obvious on the music purchasing sites i frequent and i don't have the attention span to comb through discogs.

it’s not really house and I’m not sure if this is in your wheelhouse but one of my favorites tracks of the 00s is the Fisherspooner remix of “Come into my world”:

impossible princess vinyl reissue is out and sounds pretty dope. Its rep as an alt-rock album is probably slightly overstated, there’s also a fair amount of trip-hop and glistening dance-pop on here. Those rock songs tho they really don’t hide the presence of manic street preachers; ‘i don’t need anyone’ especially sounds very much like a lost cut from

everything must go
. i think it’s very much in line with other unexpected detours of that decade and one that’s one of the more successful. ‘some kind of bliss’ and ‘breathe’ remain in the top tier of her career

as mentioned upthread

infinite disco
is absolutely great, it feels almost like a definitive statement in some ways. also the extended mixes version of
disco
improves on the original. there are so many versions of that album.

side note met a guy awhile back who had interacted w/kylie and he reported that out of all the celebs he’s dealt with she was just the best, super kind and chill.

Not the first time I've heard something like this. I think it was Simon Price who said she was one of the nicest celebrities he'd ever interviewed. Kylie and Phil Oakey.

Really enjoying the vinyl reissue of Impossible Princess. It sounds great. Nice to see it improving on its original chart placing and now becoming a top five album in the UK.
