Also Roza’s just released, very trancey Resident Advisor mix is just lovely, though uh does make the Northern Exposure connection very explicit:

never saw this thread first time around but I'm here now and that's what matters.
maybe this should go on the melbourne --> vancouver thread but I really enjoy how this general spiderweb of interconnected artists / sounds manage to take in trance, progressive/early-orbital, hardcore, breakbeats, jungle, basically anything that was going on between 1992 and 1999 (including uk garage at times) in what feels like a quite open-minded / open-hearted way - as if the unifying aesthetic is less some particular sonic brief or even some kind of ideological position other than "wow the 90s would have been a great time to go raving"
I love how this ~scene~ is both very broad and all-encompassing and yet the interconnectivity of it makes sense. Dance music singles don't ever exist a vacuum - they're always in conversation with each other through being played and mixed in different ways, of course - but it's the way that they make sense together that's really appealing. So something like "Body Hurt (Methane Mix)" is trance with a near-garage rhythmic pulse, but makes sense played alongside something as breakbeaty as "Modern Bliss."

I forgot to say in the above italicised comment that one aesthetic throughline that is not, like, mandatory or enforced, but is recurrent enough to be a real hallmark, is the very nineties / ravey vibe to a lot of the artwork. Hardly unique to this stuff of course, but it does give a sense of where a lot of the producers' heads are at.

One of my great regrets is ignoring Rosa Terenzi for so long because I confused her with Ramzi, also of the AUS-BC axis but imo much less interesting. She, along with D tiffany, reptant, et al are making some of my fav music these days.

I LOVE Baltra

Listening to “Azure” again this morning I was struck by how much the aesthetic preoccupations of this scene can be explained by a copy of Sasha’s XPander EP from 1999, and tbh I’m here for it.

This is monumental.
Some of these tracks cover so much ground and so many different ideas they're almost like jive bunny megamixes or miniature dj sets.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 2 June 2021 00:50 (three years ago) link
feel like one of d Tiffany’s trademarks is this “aquatic skitteriness”, something in the way the hats and percussion skip around and run through filters and stuff, it’s so funky

No youtubes up yet but these samples sound great. https://www.phonicarecords.com/product/guy-contact-ultraviolet-freqs-ep-pre-order-craigie-knowes/175309
Gonna just say it: The AUS/CAN connection (and related global instances of high-end 90s trance/prog flecked revival - though the best of it seems to be from Australia and BC) is my favourite thing in the last few years of new music.
