I was expecting to feel a bit of reactionary jealousy since label-mates Wolf Alice just released the similarly-titled Last Man on Earth, which I've been listening to almost daily. But I enjoyed this, and definitely hits that early 90s sweet spot for me.

beabadoobee "last day on earth" is still one of my fav songs of the year and is 100% considered part of the NOACF extended universe to me. it's almost like a bonus track

"animal noises" is def "the birthday party"-core. i think "he gets me so high" is my other favorite tho, that phrase w/ those jangly guitars it's almost like a pressing a cheat code

I forgot about it for a while and put it on a couple months ago and totally agree. their masterpiece

i’ve seen them tour each album! the brief inquiry tour was so good even tho it’s such a flawed album, the notes shows would’ve been so good

i think the good news is they missed US festival season this year and i kinda can’t imagine them waiting until next summer to go back out on the road

they seem to be deep into recording their next album so I can see them waiting lol

i think they can still do better! i like it when you sleep is more consistent than notes overall & is better sequenced, but notes has higher highs (& lower lows, though nothing i really dislike except "people") & a far more expansive sound. the ideal would be for them to do something as sonically expansive as notes but a little more consistent & with the fantastic sequencing of i like it when you sleep

there'll surely be a new album next year, possibly early since they haven't been able to tour?

it's been a long time since they've put out any new music -- not even any one-off covers or singles. it feels out of character for them. anyways, lord knows how the band that wrote "love it if we made it" is gonna be influenced by nearly two years of a global pandemic

the beabadoobee EP (one of my fav records of the year) they did is ripped straight from the notes cinematic universe… it’s almost an epilogue to the album

matty seemed pretty bored of being a political voice or at least self critical of the notion on notes and he has generally been silent the last year and a half, but who knows. they could come out w some insane statement single
