Eh, I'm all for songs with two chords, but this was ... ok. I kept thinking of that Primitive Radio Gods song (if they were on some British indie label in the early '90s).

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 24 March 2021 21:38 (four years ago)

I fuck with it, never heard of this artist b4 tho

k3vin k., Wednesday, 24 March 2021 21:57 (four years ago)

enjoyable. did she cowrite with them, too? kinda sounds like it.

alpine static, Wednesday, 24 March 2021 22:06 (four years ago)

I was expecting to feel a bit of reactionary jealousy since label-mates Wolf Alice just released the similarly-titled Last Man on Earth, which I've been listening to almost daily. But I enjoyed this, and definitely hits that early 90s sweet spot for me.

peace, man, Thursday, 25 March 2021 10:27 (four years ago)

that riff just isn't quite good enough to carry the entire song

It worked well enough for U2 and The Cranberries.

I am truly not the person this music was made for.

Beabadoobie's song "Worth It" is just damn delightful. Another artist on Dirty Hit that ILX would love is AMA, who has a rhythmic brilliance. Check out her 3 EPs, especially this year's "Vs Everything". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpY7aMPh0no

überweiss, Thursday, 5 August 2021 09:16 (three years ago)

matty & george also did every song on the latest beabadoobee EP and it's all fabulous. especially love "animal noises"

yeah the beabadoobie stuff is good

I listened to ā€œnotes on a conditional formā€ for the first time in probably 6 months last night and man, that thing holds up. their best record I think

k3vin k., Thursday, 5 August 2021 13:18 (three years ago)

co-signing all the posts in this latest revival

Tim F, Thursday, 5 August 2021 21:01 (three years ago)

beabadoobee "last day on earth" is still one of my fav songs of the year and is 100% considered part of the NOACF extended universe to me. it's almost like a bonus track

J0rdan S., Thursday, 5 August 2021 21:15 (three years ago)

"animal noises" is def "the birthday party"-core. i think "he gets me so high" is my other favorite tho, that phrase w/ those jangly guitars it's almost like a pressing a cheat code

J0rdan S., Thursday, 5 August 2021 21:47 (three years ago)

yes 100% to all that

my brother recommended PRONOUN yesterday in this vein, gonna give that a listen in a minute

k3vin k., Thursday, 5 August 2021 22:08 (three years ago)

lemme tell you, pronoun is so good

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Thursday, 5 August 2021 22:26 (three years ago)

Cologne was my fav off that one

xheugy eddy (D-40), Thursday, 5 August 2021 22:49 (three years ago)

that Holly Humberstone track did nothing for me yesterday but on the second listen now it just hit so different wow

bon ivermectin (Murgatroid), Friday, 6 August 2021 00:09 (three years ago)

Looooove Pronoun

Tim F, Saturday, 7 August 2021 10:20 (three years ago)

the holly humberstone track reminds me a lot of the last two bon iver albums

still blown away by how good the last album is… i almost can’t fathom making a better record because, like, how

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 October 2021 02:11 (three years ago)

i realized while listening to it that they never toured it & i really have to see a show where they play that record

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 October 2021 02:12 (three years ago)

i meant that i can’t fathom *them* making a better record, but what i typed is also fine

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 October 2021 02:13 (three years ago)

I was supposed to see them w/ Phoebe Bridgers and bebodobodboeee last yr, woulda been my third time seeing them :(

Murgatroid, Sunday, 17 October 2021 02:18 (three years ago)

same :(

lol at the idea of phoebe bridgers opening for the 1975 in 2021

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Sunday, 17 October 2021 02:19 (three years ago)

maybe they can co-headline in 2022!!!

I forgot about it for a while and put it on a couple months ago and totally agree. their masterpiece

mens rea activist (k3vin k.), Sunday, 17 October 2021 02:27 (three years ago)

i’ve seen them tour each album! the brief inquiry tour was so good even tho it’s such a flawed album, the notes shows would’ve been so good

i think the good news is they missed US festival season this year and i kinda can’t imagine them waiting until next summer to go back out on the road

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 October 2021 02:28 (three years ago)

they seem to be deep into recording their next album so I can see them waiting lol

Murgatroid, Sunday, 17 October 2021 02:32 (three years ago)

i think they can still do better! i like it when you sleep is more consistent than notes overall & is better sequenced, but notes has higher highs (& lower lows, though nothing i really dislike except "people") & a far more expansive sound. the ideal would be for them to do something as sonically expansive as notes but a little more consistent & with the fantastic sequencing of i like it when you sleep

there'll surely be a new album next year, possibly early since they haven't been able to tour?

ufo, Sunday, 17 October 2021 02:37 (three years ago)

it's been a long time since they've put out any new music -- not even any one-off covers or singles. it feels out of character for them. anyways, lord knows how the band that wrote "love it if we made it" is gonna be influenced by nearly two years of a global pandemic

josh az (2011nostalgia), Sunday, 17 October 2021 03:46 (three years ago)

there was "spinning" earlier this year

ufo, Sunday, 17 October 2021 03:47 (three years ago)

the beabadoobee EP (one of my fav records of the year) they did is ripped straight from the notes cinematic universe… it’s almost an epilogue to the album

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 October 2021 03:52 (three years ago)

matty seemed pretty bored of being a political voice or at least self critical of the notion on notes and he has generally been silent the last year and a half, but who knows. they could come out w some insane statement single

acoustic versions of two new songs here

ufo, Sunday, 24 October 2021 00:24 (three years ago)

maybe it's how it's an acoustic set but Matty's so.... respectable now

anyway new songs sound great, excited 4 new album

no rome debut album coming out in december, produced by george & bj burton, should have plenty for 1975 fans to enjoy
