youngsters are into acid and jungle? I'm really out of the loop
― Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Thursday, 20 May 2021 16:17 (three years ago) link
Drum n Bass seems to be having a resurgence amongst the youth but yeah, jungle never went away in Bristol. People never seem to tire of it

I'm clearly living in the wrong part of the world, I'm not sure if jungle or DnB ever even existed in Texas
― Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Thursday, 20 May 2021 17:40 (three years ago) link
Yeah, I always wonder whether there's some club around Boston that plays like jungle or balearic stuff, or really any cool club music. Haven't heard of one yet. Outside of like New York, I wonder how rare this sort of thing really is in the US.

Yeah, they closed before I moved here. Bums me out, that would have been right up my alley!

I know they've probably been shut down by the pandemic but does The Phoenix Landing still have DJs? That was another that I went to a lot.
― Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Friday, 21 May 2021 13:19 (three years ago) link
I've actually never been, but their website still talks about local DJs, so hopefully they'll be able to resume those kinds of events soon. Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out!
― OneSecondBefore, Friday, 21 May 2021 14:42 (three years ago) link
it's been over 20 years since I was last there, but back in the 90s they brought in a surprisingly solid string of DJs

i came to this comp for the version of "food of love" and it turns out the whole thing is pretty excellent

Nice. Listening to the whole album now.
Not sure if this has been posted before but there's an ace Balearic playlist from Moonboots & Jolyon on Spotify:

Sadly my vinyl copy is delayed till November but the new Reuben Vaun Smith is sounding FANTASTIC. Last year's Warm Nights album got me through the pandemic, and this sounds like a much lusher and deeper excursion overall with added instruments and vocals but without losing the original charm

Here's my latest playlist of mellow Balearic-friendly atmospheres for background chilling, vibing etc - this one concentrates on a slightly hippyish, boho vibe with lots of acoustic guitar flourishes before moving into other dimensions. Enjoy. And if you want to hear any of the others, search "Club Stoic" in playlists on Spotify.

If anyone wants to get me that Ritmo Fantasia comp upthread they'd be very welcome. Somehow I appear to have already spend an obscene amount of money on music in recent weeks

Have never known an artist to effortlessly move between “really excellent” and “totally fucking worthless” the way Mark Barrott does.^^ I was going to post the above but then I tried to go find the track that I hated so much, so I played one of his cheesy-looking Ibiza albums at random and it’s so good, Steve Roach level.

i should be sporting about the price tag for the digital album, but i can't.is this some ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs) thingie?
― meisenfek, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 15:36 (two years ago) link
didn't read the fine print. my bad.
― meisenfek, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 15:37 (two years ago) link
yeah I noticed that! Must be some Bandcamp setting preventing them from making the digital copies completely unavailable without disabling the streaming, or something similar
― Critique of the Goth Programme (Neil S), Wednesday, 13 July 2022 15:39 (two years ago) link
So we have no way to hear it unless we purchased the now sold out vinyl?
It is streaming somewhere then I guess?

way to make the digital version 'free' for those that know how to get such things, thereby missing out on legit purchases/ £££ for an an official download/cd.i have seen this being promo'd a lot here and there and would love to have had a non-vinyl opportunity.
― mark e, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 17:29 (two years ago) link
it might be a licensing situation more than anything, I know Dave Lee's had to release a few different versions of compilations due to not being able to negotiate terms and conditions with copyright holders.
― boxedjoy, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 18:21 (two years ago) link
yeah, i get that.just means that those who really want to hear this and dont do vinyl have to go illegal.nb : not blaming label at all as i am sure they tried to get the all clear re digital, just amazed that the insanity of copyright chaos in 2022 re random tracks baffles me.

I’ve been playing this one on one of my bars on weekday evenings and people seem to vibe with it. Several balearic picks that might be appreciated here and are topical to this thread:

I'm not sure this is discussed elsewhere on ILM, but there's loads of great Balearic-style tunes coming out of Napoli this year. Seems like there's a nice scene there. Here's a few:
Gigi Testa - Guayaba: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaQK6Uf4UOQ
Mystic Jungle - Money Wonder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bRScS190Zw
