This is a classic case of an interesting and valid idea worthy of serious discussion being discarded due to the very sloppy way in which it was expressed and presented, or perhaps that a young woman wearing face paint was presenting it, I don't know.
I've had similar thoughts to what Grimes expressed in her post for years. AI (if implemented correctly... this is a huge huge IF) is indeed the only way I see for humanity to actually have long term global equanimity and social stability that is protected from the inherent human failings of corruption, racism/xenophobia, short sighted greed, and vanity from wrecking all the things. And by AI I don't mean sentience, per se, but advanced tools that actually supersede and hold sway over the ruling class, long term ideally removing them from said class. Now how the ruling class will allow such a system is another thing. Perhaps an entity like the EU begins to incorporate some aspects over time. It certainly has institutional structures in place that could support such a concept, especially if it leads to the massive potential benefits. But dismissing the above "because it's Grimes" is as dumb as people are painting Grimes to be here.

corruption, racism/xenophobia, short sighted greed, and vanity from wrecking all the things
are these in fact all inherent human failings

― Joe Bombin (milo z), Friday, 4 June 2021 02:38 (three years ago) link
Good example Milo, AI is much more at risk of repeating or worse even amplifying said inherent human failings than doing the opposite. If we were able to create an ideal world, I beliebe we would have.
What people are dismissing is technologism as solution, and Grimes is sorta the ambassador of such ideology in the pop and art world.
― Van Horn Street, Friday, 4 June 2021 02:43 (three years ago) link
the thing is that grimes doesn't actually have anything particularly interesting to say there at all (and yes she presented it in a particularly stupid way). plenty has been written about how advances in automation could lead to a post-scarcity economy, including by marx himself, who viewed it as a key part of a communist society, but claiming that "AI is the fastest path to communism" is just poorly thought out tech-utopian nonsense from grimes. the level of automation required for post-scarcity communism wouldn't even need the sort of strong AI (like, greater-than-human intelligence that can just 'solve for abundance' and 'prevent corruption') that she's talking about anyway, and just improving automation technology isn't naturally going to lead to post-scarcity communism either, as marx argued.
the sort of AI that grimes means is an absurdly difficult problem that is not going to happen within any of our lifetimes. destroying capitalism for socialism/communism, while very hard & unfortunately unlikely, still isn't that degree of impossible.

art angels ruled! & the last one was ok in places i guess
she has always been pretty goofy and sometimes "cringe" in her public statements etc. though, it just went from being kinda endearingly quirky to completely obnoxious after she started dating the world's richest man & started trying to actually justify her politics/defend elon etc. instead of just throwing out goofy quotes & doing ridiculous stuff like the houseboat story

yeah absolutely, she was a pretty big part of Artbutus Records which was (near?) the nucleus of a certain scene; Ashl*y above was connected to that

a lot of those ppl were super bitter towards her long before elon musk or anything tho.. like in 2012-13 even

oh i didn't realise ashl*y was one of the dancers in the "vanessa" video lol
idk about any bitterness from that scene towards towards her at the time of her breakout in 2012 etc. but there's obviously been a lot more open hostility towards her from people who knew her then since her heel turn with dating elon etc.
arbutus records also screwed over a lot of people, right? (including grimes)

a good illustration of grimes' politics is this, where she explains that "I pledge allegiance to the robot overlords" was at least a somewhat-sincerely sincerely meant political statement, not just her being a goofy sci-fi nerd like you would expect
― ufo, Friday, 4 June 2021 11:14 (three years ago) link
I sincerely doubt that she's sincerely stupid enough to believe what she says. Free market socialism simply doesn't exist and AI is not going to change that fact. Tesla will not stop treating their workers like shit when their robot overlord demands it in the same way that global poverty hasn't been eliminated by the demands of crytocurrancy.

has anyone ever read that stanislaw lem short story about the planet that's populated by robots who will kill any non-robot being on sight? then the twist is that all of the robots are actually just humans in disguise, but none of them are actually aware and have been tricked into thinking that they're the only ones that are a human in a robot disguise? and they all subsequently go around terrorizing each other to weed out any humans in disguise?
i feel like that's what claire means when she is praising the "robot overlords."

DJP, on the same page too, which is why I qualified my original post with: "AI (if implemented correctly... this is a huge huge IF)". This is assuming it was written, built, and maintained by humanity for humanity as a whole, not the ruling class as Fantano outlined would realistically happen. In fact, I feel a more "realistic" scenario involving AI is it enabling a sustained Techno-Corporate Fascism in the name of "fighting corruption" and "stabilization" which is probably what China is very close to sustaining for their country and why I bet most of the Western Ruling Class is very jealous and envious of how they're running things right now.
That said, I still think a benevolent government with a non-human entity driving large scale decision making is still our best bet in the long term, assuming it's done right. But it has to be done right.
