I've been doing this with "Whoomp! There It Is" and "Boom Boom Boom" as of recent.

I always like to pretend it's "The Griffin is gonna get ya". Much scarier

Not quite a mashup, but the words "Screaming Like a Baby" to the tune of "Treat Her Like a Lady."

Donny Hathaway - This Christmas, but the jazzy turnaround after the chorus drops straight into the theme from Taxi.

This has been plaguing me all week

Yesterday it was these two songs: Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks - Vanessa From Queens / the Boo Radleys - Charles Bukowski Is Dead. They must be in roughly the same key and tempo because I started thinking of one and then the middle eighth from the other kind of interrupted it. Not sure which one though

One song only--this is the only thread for earworms.

I was subbing for a music teacher two days last week, and she had a number of YouTube clips lined up for singing and for boomwhackers. One of the singing clips for half the classes was Bruno Mars "Count on Me" Nice song, please, please leave me alone.

"The Night Chicago Died" by "Paper Lace" and......"Dangerous Jade" from Evita

In the heat of a summer night
In the land of the dollar bill
When the town of Chicago died
And they talk about it still

The evidence suggests
They have other interests
If it's her who's using him
He's exceptionally dim

Yes “Roundabout” and The Miracles “Love Machine”… they have similar opening licks, just before the vocals, which makes them very swappable in the head.

i see i already mentioned my weird twin peaks/locomotion hang-up, which was in my head for years. i am so glad that time is over.

another one that lasted years on end was Bobby Darin's "Splish Splash" with Eddy Grant's "Electric Avenue". just one part, over and over:

"Splish splash, I was taking a bath / and then we'll take it higher"

i have no idea how this happened but it drove me insane

Every time I hear “Waterloo Sunset” the lyrics from “Eleanor Rigby” try to horn themselves into the melody:

Look at him wor-king
Darning his socks in
The night when there’s no - one there

Father Mac-KEN-zie
Wiping the dirt from
His hands as he walks - from the graaave

I think there are a ton of these on the original Video Games thread though, including the unforgettable 'kickin' in the front seat, sitting in the back seat, video games'.

I was listening to my 80s playlist and Kiss’ deeply cheesy “Forever” morphed into Heart’s “What About Love?” (In my head not in the playlist bc I had it on shuffle)
I was curious if they had the same songwriter and learned the Heart song is a cover!! News to me.

Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Saturday, 10 December 2022 00:07 (one year ago) link

I didn't know that either. mostly cos their hits were largely being written by professional songwriters then and it sounds so much like those songs I didn't realize a band wrote it. interesting!

(I have a soft spot for those Heart ballads, as generic as they were, mostly cos Ann Wilson could make any material sound good)

Fash Gordon (Neanderthal), Saturday, 10 December 2022 01:40 (one year ago) link

me too, I have "will you be there in the morning" on my car playlist at the moment!

kinder, Saturday, 10 December 2022 09:25 (one year ago) link

I do not like either of these songs, but Tony Orlando and Dawn’s “Knock Three Times” morphs into Styx’s “Lady” thusly:

“Knock three times on the ceiling if you want me
Once on the pipe
And my troubles all fade…”

My band started jamming on Men Without Hats’ “Pop Goes the World” tonight and I couldn’t remember any of the lyrics so I subbed in the verses from Jim Carroll’s “People Who Died.” It worked pretty well, actually.
