That Squier is a weird kind of fun. I can totally understand why someone would love it for its idiosyncratic look and light weight. I don't quite understand why the strings splay out from the bridge that way, seems like an unnecessary break angle but stranger guitars exist.

Unusually for me, I only have one Telecaster right now and it is a Squier Thinline. "Classic Vibe" like this one (not mine, but it is the same model)

yeah the string break angle is odd and something they carried over from the mercury guitars it's based on. doesn't seem to impact much although i think it is tuned to a chord of some kind which is interesting.

god I just looked up vintage Mustang prices. I sold a '65 that had been refretted for $900 at the beginning of the pandemic when I was worried about money.

Guitar Mill has some painted bodies available, might have to buy a neck and learn to solder.

Do it! Building a parts-something is a perfect thing to do for the pandemic and there's at least a half-dozen YouTube channels that will show you how to do it for free.

Any of y'all ever used a wiring kit with quick connects instead of soldering? I've tried soldering before and now I have two old guitars I can't use lol.

i hate to be like buy the expensive thing but a good soldering iron made all the difference for me. i'm not very good at teeny tiny SMD stuff but a hakko with a decent tip makes through hole soldering an absolute breeze.

Swapping a speaker out myself was the most DIY guitar-related thing I've done to date. Surprisingly easy, but I'm not about to start soldering shit.

I replaced the 9V battery jack on an old Fender Blender fuzz pedal and it was pretty nerve racking.

Did not manage to burn out any connections with the borrowed soldering iron, at least.

This one is particularly shameful because it's clear from the description that they take huge pride in having spoiled the appearance of a beautiful old guitar.

It's something that we've never done before and thought it would be awesome to share to the rest of the world. You are not going to find one like this anywhere else!

i have not but if the price were truly super cheap i'd take a long hard look at it, especially the blue finish.

I would not hesitate to buy the st Vincent rig if it’s a good price. Reviews are uniformly excellent & I don’t think you’d have much trouble getting rid of it if you don’t fall in love w/it.

I want to see a relic where someone just blows a hole through the body with a shotgun and talks up the “murdered on stage at a bar” authenticity

It's way better than gold hardware looks but too blingy for me. Matte/satin metal parts would look best with that badass lilac IMO.

anyone had any experience with yamaha revstars? i really like the look of them and the prices seem pretty cheap

I've got a RS502T. Love love looooooove it. In retrospect, I would've gotten a regular RS502 because the tailpiece adds absolutely nothing, but they all seem to be in stocking/manufacturing limbo in N. America right now (although I think they're still making new ones for the Japanese market). I hope they didn't come and go that fast, because I'd really like to swap mine out for a regular RS502.

Anyway, dope guitar. Feels very high end (or at least the most high end feeling guitar I've ever owned).

(to be clear, I've only ever owned budget guitars, so $700 is high end for me.)

Yes, I've seen some very fine older Yams

I have had a bunch of Yamaha instruments of middling quality (fine for my purposes as an enthusiastic amateur) but none quite so desirable as the older or newest ones

yeah i think the old yamaha sgs are better looking than most of the gibson ones.

i have a 78-81 (can't figure it out precisely, but they had a factory in taiwan they opened in that time to compete with taylor and martin) yamaha acoustic (basically a martin dreadnought) and i would not trade or sell ever. brought it over to do some tracking on a friend's project and the engineer was like "wow this guitar sounds great", thing just sings and feels great

I think it comes down to finishes, pickups, and Bigsbys/tailpieces. The 502's have P90s.

Wanted a Yamaha sg for ages due to John McGeoch and also Stuart Adamson when he was in the Skids. Eastwood do a replica, but I have a hunch that a revstar would be a better guitar for the money they're asking:

many are more expensive but you can definitely find an old Yamaha model for around that price
