I don’t think anyone is defending carles either

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 26 March 2022 01:33 (three years ago)

Anyways, in other news Grimes did a small appearance and preview of her upcoming shit song Utopia at a crypto event:

"The mostly male crowd drew from a wide variety of roles, including blockchain coders, venture capitalists, crypto traders, hedge fund executives, lawyers, marketers, designers, musicians, gamers and even some government officials."

https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2022/03/24/avalanche-crypto-event-woos-35k-to-barcelona-with-late-parties-late-starts-long-lines/

Sounds about right.

The fucking irony and audacity of announcing this at a tent dubbed “eco-chamber” at a crypto event smh

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 26 March 2022 01:38 (three years ago)

Sorry “eco-dome”

that quote is from like 3 or 4 years ago & is moreso crazy incoherent views from having spent too much time on lesswrong (see: the belief in inevitability of ai dictatorship) than fascist

ufo, Saturday, 16 April 2022 03:52 (three years ago)

def some resonance between lesswrong and fashy stuff tho

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Saturday, 16 April 2022 05:22 (three years ago)

I know I’m a broken record here but expecting Grimes opinions on anything other than her own music or anime or w/e to be coherent has been an exercise in futility

When that entire “I think AI could make music” thing happened a half dozen musicians who work in that space tried to explain what she was saying didn’t quite make sense, offered to talk about it, etc. and then she drifted on to the next thing instead

I hate that I thought these two were cool persons a decade ago.

M.I.A.: I'm at a dentist in Mexico.

Grimes: Why?

M.I.A.: I'm trying out this new thing that people do in America.

Grimes: Is it the vampire teeth?

M.I.A.: No, is that a thing here?

Grimes: Yeah, my friends who live in Brazil got vampire teeth.

M.I.A.: I really fancied coming here and then thought, “While I'm here I'm going to be a good old American and get all my medical stuff sorted out.” I felt a bit bored and fancied the challenge. So now I can talk about these issues: I went to the dentist and it cost me like $50, and then if I go to one in Beverly Hills, it's a lot more expensive.

Grimes: Yeah, it's crazy.

M.I.A.: It was interesting to see the quality, and it helps me keep on top of what is going on economically and with the standard of living, so I can speak from experience.

Amazing

Cow_Art, Thursday, 20 October 2022 00:17 (two years ago)

i'm glad MIA talked about some of the concerns with crypto, particularly how if too many people get wallets there could be storage difficulties

Karl Malone, Thursday, 20 October 2022 00:18 (two years ago)

I like when she mixed up the global reserve currency with the gold standard

I'm doing an experiment right now where I'm being a pagan polytheist because I have this theory that before the rise of monotheism, society was a lot better.

difficult listening hour, Thursday, 20 October 2022 00:21 (two years ago)

Feel bad clowning them because both have crested music I have truly loved, music that has benefited my life. But this interview is like sheesh

treeship., Thursday, 20 October 2022 00:23 (two years ago)

MIA just wrote a lyric for Common People

omar little, Thursday, 20 October 2022 00:23 (two years ago)

Grimes was literally just doing tons of research.

Back-alley plaque scrapings to better understand the basic folk

Cow_Art, Thursday, 20 October 2022 15:09 (two years ago)

both of these people had the kind of success that brings out airhead corporate adorers

m.i.a. married a bronfman, grimes had kids with musk

people get their brains mushified by the echo-chamber

sean gramophone, Thursday, 20 October 2022 15:15 (two years ago)

this might be way too complex for ilxor’s ilm forum, because they’re trying to solve the world.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 20 October 2022 17:08 (two years ago)

I'll be honest, if they dropped a joint album, I'd give it a listen

m.i.a. did not, in fact, marry that bronfman! they were engaged, though

I read Caroline Polachek has a guest spot for Dido on her new album and got all excited and it turns out fucking grimes is not only on the album but on the same track.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 31 January 2023 17:20 (two years ago)

I hate that I thought these two were cool persons a decade ago.

It's always disappointing when a favorite artist that represented where the music should/will go begins to slip, but I feel like more and more of them lately are just falling off a cliff in all the worst ways.

Why is she a white supremacist now? The fuck?

treeship., Saturday, 15 April 2023 20:47 (two years ago)

Trite response but seriously. It is very odd that both kanye and grimes became hitler apologists

treeship., Saturday, 15 April 2023 20:50 (two years ago)

I still love this song, without reservation.

She is a very gifted musician but clearly a person of poor character.

treeship., Saturday, 29 April 2023 14:15 (two years ago)

realiti (demo) so much better than anything else post visions

Still don’t see what’s so great about that song

“Oblivion” was my jam… I’ve never really gotten the “Realiti” love either.

Flesh without blood, from art angels, is her best song imo. I love the ethereal gothic early sound but I also like the hyperpop that succeeded it. I dislike how her personality and beliefs seem to have changed since art angels though.

treeship., Saturday, 29 April 2023 22:29 (two years ago)

even as a huge fan of miss anthropocene imo she was always like this sorry

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Saturday, 29 April 2023 22:30 (two years ago)

I guess I didn’t follow her enough to know she’d be the type to retweet neo-nazis

treeship., Saturday, 29 April 2023 22:32 (two years ago)

Never thought her music suffered any drop in quality even as she herself perhaps did. Miss anthropocene wasn't quite as good as art angels or visions but not too far off, it bears repeat listening for me.
