agree too

k3vin k., Friday, 2 September 2022 16:56 (two years ago) link

Love this new one even if (perhaps because?) it is doing nothing new - it feels like a tune from Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Mirage’.

Tim F, Saturday, 3 September 2022 10:53 (two years ago) link

oh yes absolutely

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Saturday, 3 September 2022 13:34 (two years ago) link

Tim, I will always love you for hearing Fleetwood Mac's Mirage in the hum of car engines, the chirping of birds, and the rumbling of washing machines.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 3 September 2022 13:38 (two years ago) link

Heard the 1975 on the radio this morning, maybe for the first time, and interestingly enough it was on the broadly/blandly "eclectic" station. It was "Part of the Band" (introduced iirc as "breaking new ground for the 1975," because it was so "lush"), followed by songs by Zeppelin, the Strokes, etc. (This is the station that plays DMB *and* Wet Leg, Cheap Trick and Japanese Breakfast.) I guess it makes sense, because the 1975 could fit in almost anywhere, though also "Part of the Band" isn't particularly representative of the group, imo, so I wonder what people expecting more of the same might think of the album.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 8 September 2022 13:15 (two years ago) link

So wait, did Jack Antonoff produce the whole album, or have credits not been revealed yet?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 8 September 2022 13:18 (two years ago) link

iirc there was some indication that he didn't do every track? but full credits aren't out yet

ufo, Thursday, 8 September 2022 13:23 (two years ago) link

I looked on Wiki, and at first I thought he had just produced the three singles so far, but then I noticed those were the only songs with production credits listed. Though curiously (or perhaps incompletely) Antonoff is *not* listed as a co-writer. There's that quote that was in the Pitchfork feature:

Healy also makes it clear that he’s always the one in full creative control—of production, songwriting, performances. “Everything the 1975 does, I write.” He laughs softly. “No one touches the lyrics.”

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 8 September 2022 13:30 (two years ago) link

the full writing credits are out, just not production credits. he doesn't have any writing credits

the band or Matty not sure are on the new episode of the How Long Gone podcast

trying to confirm whether it's the band or just Matty but i'm still at the long-winded intro

i do not get the appeal of the hosts or this popular-among-certain-circles podcast whatsoever

Murgatroid, Thursday, 15 September 2022 20:40 (two years ago) link

like do you have to be irl friends with them to care about these two hosts or

Murgatroid, Thursday, 15 September 2022 20:41 (two years ago) link

it's Matty and George

How Long Gone achieving the previously unthinkable: making Matty Healy sound boring

great podcast

Murgatroid, Thursday, 15 September 2022 21:25 (two years ago) link

ahah HLG as divisive as The 1975.

I think the pod is great but it takes a few eps to get a feel for their personalities and suss out when they're being serious or doing a bit/trolling.

I think Jason is a legitimately great host and interviewer. been following since his Tall Tales podcast, the best episodes of which were always 1 on 1s with Chris Black. long time coming.

anza808, Thursday, 15 September 2022 22:39 (two years ago) link

I just saw a random video of Justin from the Darkness having a more or less real time epiphany listening to "Part of the Band."

Murgatroid, Thursday, 15 September 2022 23:36 (two years ago) link

fuck, the new song is gorgeous and simple

best of the new tracks

new one not really doing anything for me, but these minimalist ballads are always my least favorite of their songs

k3vin k., Thursday, 22 September 2022 16:51 (two years ago) link

like a much better version of "mine"

Usually don't like their acoustic tracks as much, but "All I Need to Hear" was a gorgeous listen, the live version anyway

Vinnie, Friday, 23 September 2022 15:45 (two years ago) link

And yeah I know it's not really acoustic, I got lazy with the description haha

Vinnie, Friday, 23 September 2022 15:46 (two years ago) link

Is it just me or is this giving Beyoncé's sandcastles vibes?

Someone went an ranked every single song released to date and because I could possibly do this myself:

Bee OK, Monday, 10 October 2022 06:03 (two years ago) link

ok that list is immediately terrible because "pressure" is the best track on the debut, wtf

new arrangement of "tootimetootimetootime" where they're playing it all live with sax everywhere without the sampled loops of the studio version

ufo, Wednesday, 12 October 2022 02:02 (two years ago) link

just got my ticket to see them for the third time. matty indicated they're playing the new album in full on tour but i hope there's lots of stuff from notes on the setlist since they never got to tour that

ufo, Wednesday, 12 October 2022 23:14 (two years ago) link

covid wiping out the notes tour was personally disastrous

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 12 October 2022 23:21 (two years ago) link

the tour i wanna see is that album in full w/ some other songs sprinkled in

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 12 October 2022 23:21 (two years ago) link

i wouldn't really want them to do all of notes, it's too messy

would love all of i like it when you sleep though, especially since they didn't play here on the proper tour for it so i haven't seen many deeper cuts from it live

ufo, Thursday, 13 October 2022 00:50 (two years ago) link

I don't know how "tootime" sounded on the tour for that album, but that new live version is dope

Vinnie, Thursday, 13 October 2022 01:09 (two years ago) link

matty coming soon on chicken shop date!

sean gramophone, Thursday, 13 October 2022 01:12 (two years ago) link

oh "the 1975" is an actual song this time

ufo, Thursday, 13 October 2022 12:06 (two years ago) link

that's going to be so confusing lol

ufo, Thursday, 13 October 2022 12:07 (two years ago) link

definitely the best "the 1975" though

ufo, Thursday, 13 October 2022 12:11 (two years ago) link

this is their most sophisti-pop album easily

ufo, Thursday, 13 October 2022 12:25 (two years ago) link

pretty solid overall, maybe their second-best front-to-back even if it doesn't quite reach the same highs as some of their other albums. only "part of the band" really blew me away like they have at their best but "oh caroline" is really good too. "i'm in love with you" & "all i need to hear" were really boring single choices, i was worried the album would be dull but it's pretty good after all

ufo, Thursday, 13 October 2022 12:56 (two years ago) link

reichian piano phases running throughout “the 1975” [heart eyes emoji]

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 13 October 2022 14:24 (two years ago) link

i feel like the reference point was just "all my friends" but i'll take it
