I like everything Two Shell put out this year and don't believe I've seen them mentioned here. Philip Sherburne covered them on P4k a couple times:

Joy Orbison’s game-changing 2009 single “Hyph Mngo” is their obvious lodestar; you can hear it almost verbatim in the hiccupping vocal loop of the opening “Ghosts” and the fluttering synths of “Pods,” which follows. While it’s hardly an obscure pick—no song did more to mark the end of the dubstep era and the beginning of the amorphous stylistic free-for-all that followed—it’s been a while since anyone zeroed in so doggedly on the song’s ecstatic qualities. i kinda liked the first livity single (access ep), not as into the second one (soulcity ep). i think access was the only livity singles i didn't grab out of that "run", sort of lost interest in the label around the early 40s so didn't grab soulcity either.

On Two Shell’s 2020 mix CD, ɪᴍᴘᴀᴄᴛ21, songs by canonical acts like Skee Mask and the Prodigy bumped up against shards of digital-native styles like nightcore and hyperpop. They’ve recently dusted their music with helium-huffing vocals reminiscent of SOPHIE and peppered their sets with cheeky flips of Sugababes and the Corrs. Digging is part of any DJ’s job, but hearing Two Shell drop chirpy remixes of unknown emo randos suggests an affinity with Gen Z’s digital avant-garde that you won’t find among most of their post-dubstep peers

The audaciousness of Two Shell’s productions is matched by the slipperiness of the duo’s presentation. In their Boiler Room appearance at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound last month, they performed wearing absurd disguises—chain mail and cloth goat horns on one, clown wig and nylon-stocking face mask on the other—and were almost certainly pantomiming to a pre-recorded mix. There are even rumors that the two people behind the decks weren’t Two Shell at all. The deeper you descend through the Two Shell looking glass, the more the whole enterprise begins to take on the air of a grade-A piss take, a no-fucks-given sendup of contemporary DJ culture

sorry for the negativity. i guess i’m just that amazed / repulsed by the proposition that the antidote for self-important celebrity dj culture is … copying old moves from afx, daft punk, soulwax etc ie some of the most overrated celebrity djs of the last three decades?

Its good to express negativity sometimes! I don't know the exact proportions but somewhere between 5 and 15% of the time is healthy.

since this seems to be the only thread with dj python discussion... i finally got around to listening to Mas amable and i'd be ready to proclaim it one of my favorite albums of all time if not for that never-ending ASMR track.

as someone who was brought to tears by that guided meditation track on the last jon hopkins album, i'm not against stuff like this but it doesn't work for me at all in this case. later tonight i'm going to light some candles, lay down, close my eyes, and give it another go since the instrumental is THAT GOOD.

I totally take that track as 100% tongue in cheek.

really? that was actually the one song i kept coming back to, its fantastic. completely hypnotic and the drums sound amazing

it sounds like it's the vocalist's first time ever speaking into a delay pedal and is in the process of figuring out how their voice works given the echoes and reworking whatever words they had prepared given that. the ASMR-style of speaking too softly too close to the mic is like nails on a chalkboard and is slightly too high in the mix to become part of the background.

i could be down with all this if it weren't 11 minutes long and the obvious centerpiece of the album. the juxtaposition of how much i enjoy the rest of what's going on with the record and how much i dislike this is the reason i care at all tbh
