only guitar adjacent but this would be a very stupid and fun thing to have (if they were still 1/3 this price like a few years ago)

xp True that can be the case, but it's basically any acoustic vibration which makes the coils move and hence generates a signal responding to the sound. Potting reduces the coil's ability to move, but sometimes it can be that the pickup and pickguard are rubbing against each other, or the pickup cover is slightly loose. On Jaguars the claws are notorious for vibrating and that makes pickups microphonic too.
Kinmans are built so differently to a JM single coil that it's very likely they'd be unaffected by whatever is goosing the existing pickup. Apparently they sound great too, and even a shielded JM is a sea of noise so it's a good choice regardless!

Love that Elliot Easton SG, looks a lot like the Rosetta Tharpe SG which I always coveted (except that one has three pickups).

Brittany Howard has a great Inverness Green SG Custom (I think I saw an interview where she said Gibson gave it to her after she appeared on SNL or the Tonight Show or something).

Kind of sucks that they went with the smaller headstock than the big CBS headstock though

papal hotwife (milo z), Friday, 13 January 2023 02:20 (one year ago) link

i find that incredibly frustrating, big headstock is absolutely right on those blingy mid-60s offsets

call all destroyer, Friday, 13 January 2023 02:31 (one year ago) link

I love the giant CBS headstock on everything.

They need to give the LPB '73 Stratocaster a rosewood neck

Seconded. I've never seen a big headstock Fender that wouldn't look better with a regular headstock.

Did jazzmaster headstocks ever change size? I thought they always maintained a size somewhere between the og strat abd cbs strat sizes?

yep, went big 1966-1982

I really like the color scheme of the Van Leeuwen Jazzmaster, btw, but along with the embiggened headstock I'm also not a fan of block inlays on, well, all Fenders.

Never heard of the Leslee system, like a built in stereo Univibe where it alternates between the neck and bridge pickups while you play.

Amazing! The relic is a little overcooked but man that is a pretty guitar.

The Back to the Future guitars should have had built in Plasma Drives.

definitely a Mockingbird

A thing I am not going to say out loud: the pointier your guitar is, the less I want to hear your music

But I am certainly thinking it

carne asana (Ye Mad Puffin), Thursday, 23 March 2023 13:40 (one year ago) link

This is something I think about sometimes: there must be someone somewhere who uses a pointy shredder guitar to make decidedly non-shredder music, right? But it seems to just not ever happen.

mirostones, Thursday, 23 March 2023 15:32 (one year ago) link

Sleigh Bells?

assert (matttkkkk), Thursday, 23 March 2023 18:31 (one year ago) link

I feel like a trv shredder guitar is a slightly pointier super strat with a Floyd Rose type whammy and a HSS pickup configuration

Didn't Rosetta Tharpe play a Flying V? Or Explorer or SG. Maybe I am misremembering. I have a vague memory of someone from that era with a pointy guitar.

carne asana (Ye Mad Puffin), Thursday, 23 March 2023 19:14 (one year ago) link

She played an SG which seems kinda weird but I think mostly cuz of Iommi and Angus Young

Albert King played a Flying V as did Neil Young for a particularly sleazy period
