Not generally a fan of gold hardware but the wear has it looking pretty good.
Looks like bridge and neck pickups were changed to P90s.

papal hotwife (milo z), Wednesday, 5 April 2023 03:13 (two years ago)

I'm having a weird thing where gold hardware is looking better and better to me after years of not liking it

but i've seen other white SGs like that w/the gold hardware, always looks great

unrelate:
i always feel bad for ppl who bought super expensive left-handed guitars and then are trying to move them on craigslist, tough sell

thanks! (looks pretty indeed, but that's still a little steep for a used eastman, no?)

fact checking cuz, Wednesday, 5 April 2023 15:35 (two years ago)

gold is back, baby. i just bought and steel and gold watch and am redoing my kitchen cabinets with brushed brass hardware.

i think with guitars though gold hardware only looks good with black or white finishes. maybe sunburst too.

two weeks pass...

Craigslist guy wants $1100 for this '80s Greco Danelectro - too much (a vintage Silvertone 1448 goes for less) but I'm curious what their lipstick pickups sound like

papal hotwife (milo z), Thursday, 20 April 2023 05:30 (two years ago)

I'd probably rather get a Squier Jag and put lipsticks in it ala Tom Verlaine anyway

papal hotwife (milo z), Thursday, 20 April 2023 05:32 (two years ago)

i have a 90's one of those with a wooden bridge & plastic tuners. the best thing about it is the neck. it has the most comfortable neck and you can play it all day. how the lipstick pickups sound. the best i can explain it- well, the tele goes "honk" and the strat goes "quack" & the dano goes "bong" and that's the way it goes. with the pickup selector switcg it's very versatile, you can play an entire set on 'em. so much so that i used it as my main guitar for gigging without a backup for a time, often without a backup, which was incredibly stupid because it's very unreliable. one time a bushing grommet flew off during our opening song at a huge gig in front of like 1k ppl, and i was horrendously out of tune for the entire set. with the metal hardware it loses some mojo. i think i paid around $200 incl. hard case.

hoonja doonja love me anymore (Deflatormouse), Thursday, 20 April 2023 06:15 (two years ago)

it goes (((bong))), like there's an orb around the sound it makes, it seems to levitate. it's missing something, doesn't have that grounding zap! to it, kinda hovers or floats in midair. the odd duck that doesn't quack.

when you wish upon a tsar (Ye Mad Puffin), Thursday, 20 April 2023 10:55 (two years ago)

I usually don't like the racing stripes but i really love that mustang

The jaguar I bought showed up a while ago and it was flawless, no dust or marks or anything anywhere. There was a little fret wear so someone had played it but otherwise it was pristine. It also had an actual fender branded locking trem instead of a squier one but no bar. It took a while to set up because whoever i bought if from seemed to have no idea what they were doing.

Never having played one I didn't know what to expect, but I like it even though the short scale and relatively large frets feel really strange. But I can kind of play the intro to radiohead's 'let down' now because I can actually stretch between the 3rd and 6th frets

Harley Benton "Mosrite" that would be under $260 shipped from Germany... live out the Ricky Wilson fantasy

minor complaint - people are getting so into these "cool" detail shots and dramatic angles in guitar ads, i really wish everyone would realize you still need a full guitar, top down or standing in as stand shot

router went out so had to hit best buy yesterday, stopped in at the nearby guitar center on a whim

was trying out fender basses and it was really funny - i was switching between the players series stuff (around $850) and the higher end Squire (around $450) - in every case I thought the Squire felt better, neck felt more solid, just overall I liked them better

nice finish, kind of a 70s bowling alley vibe

Does anyone know anything about the Guild Aristocrat? I really like how light they are, the feel, and the pickups. I'm wondering what's considered to be the best era for them.

had to google but they are classy looking, i love those jazz box type guitars

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 9 May 2023 16:33 (two years ago)

Yeah, I'm into the idea of a closed hollow body. I picked it up and it felt so nice. And yeah it looks really good too. It seems like maybe they were actually introduced pretty late, like 2010s? But a little unclear to me.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Tuesday, 9 May 2023 16:38 (two years ago)

I tried a used one they had at GC, but it seemed priced to high and it was missing the cool pickguard

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Tuesday, 9 May 2023 16:38 (two years ago)

The Aristocrat is intriguing. Chambered, with P-90s? No wonky Bigsby, which is a plus.

Personally I have yet to truly love a semi-hollowbody. I had a very nice 339 for a while but could tell it wasn't for me. Couldn't hear the wood and air at all. And try as I might, I don't think I will ever truly love a humbucker. I had vaguely thought that my next move in that direction might be something fully hollow, possibly with P90s, but my attention is elsewhere at present.

Best of luck to you man

It’s crazy what oddball Norlin Gibson models are going for these days. $1600…considering frets are like on many Norlins…no way dude.

The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 20:53 (two years ago)

I don't really have reason to buy another electric right now, I've been playing like 99% acoustic. I haven't even been playing the MIJ tele I bought last year much.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Wednesday, 10 May 2023 01:20 (two years ago)

I do still sometimes think about selling my ES-335 studio - they've gone up a ton in value, and I hate the color of mine (wine red).

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Wednesday, 10 May 2023 03:58 (two years ago)

Still idly wish for a Jaguar or Jagblaster w/ wide range humbuckers but since I put Kinmans in my Jazzmaster it's hard to see where I have any need - no more noise issues and I seem to always be frustrated by humbuckers when everything is set for a bright Jazzmaster with 1 meg pots.

papal hotwife (milo z), Wednesday, 10 May 2023 04:30 (two years ago)

man alive there are some pretty amazing 335 type offerings from other makers these days which would handily match your Gibson, if reputation is a guide. Heritage, Guild Starfire, Eastman etc. And a LOT of change left over.

assert (matttkkkk), Wednesday, 10 May 2023 06:23 (two years ago)

Eastman has a very good reputation in the mandolin world at present.

coolgnoscenti (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 10 May 2023 10:11 (two years ago)

and milo the OG WRHB is quite a bright pickup because of the polepiece magnets, it would most likely coexist with your JM setups. But cmon, break free, get a Tele Deluxe or Custom. You’ll never look back.

assert (matttkkkk), Wednesday, 10 May 2023 11:04 (two years ago)

xp Oh yeah for sure. I've kind of been thinking about an Eastman T-59v for a while (I think I mentioned it upthread) and could probably get one for the same or less as I could sell my Gibson for (this is one of the 2015 "studio" stripped down models so it's worth $$ but not $$$). Although I don't love the way they look a lot more than my Gibson.

Eastman has an increasingly strong rep in the bluegrass world generally - their acoustic dreads get recommended a lot as best value for money.

I've always loved Guild Starfires too. I'm generally a fan of Guilds.

Good advice in general. That Vintage II ‘72 Thinline that’s out now is pretty great

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 10 May 2023 13:39 (two years ago)

for any fellow new yorkers in this thread: is there a place somewhere in this city that isn’t guitar center (or sam ash) that has a decent stock, or any stock at all, of new electric guitars? i know a million places to buy vintage. can’t find a single place to buy a new one that isn’t a corporate superstore.

I was going to say Matt umanov but it looks like it’s now a “pure barre” whatever that is

calstars, Saturday, 13 May 2023 23:31 (two years ago)

i don’t know what a pure barre is either, but the retail store closed five or six years ago :(

fact checking cuz, Saturday, 13 May 2023 23:34 (two years ago)

Probably a barre studio. Those popped up a lot in the 2010s whenever another business would move out. Same deal as Spirit Halloween, but for trendy exercise.
