when i think of nashville skyline coming out the same year (and on the same planet!) as in the court of the crimson king i realize what horse i ride into the 70s. it isn't the dusty one. it's the shiny robo-horse. i'm actually riding it with Can and Donna Summer and George Clinton. it's a big horse! (and hey go check out that dusty dusty him sad 70s west coast thread i like a LOT of country rock...)

Haroumi Hosono switched horses midstream. Or did he reveal that it was actually all the same horse?

i would have preferred the Small Faces backing Dylan up in the 60s.

I am absolutely on board with this. I mean, not instead of The Band, but in addition to, like if Dylan had also toured in ‘67-‘68.

As it happened, Ian McLagan was in Dylan’s 1984 road band. During the first show, McLagan was scrambling: songs were in different keys than they’d rehearsed, and Bob played a bunch of songs they hadn’t rehearsed. After a couple more shows, McLagan found Bob in the hotel bar and made some setlist suggestions. Bob said, “Hm, that’s a good idea. You know, why don’t you write those down for me.” So Ian made a list of songs he thought would work and gave it to Bob. For the rest of the tour, none of those songs were played.

oh i'm already waiting for tarfumes to show up with a good anecdote about the time that miles and can and donna summer were at george clinton's house and they all listened to The Band and made fun of Steve Miller.

Sorry, all I can do is reiterate that Miles was a Who fan, and insisted that “I Can See For Miles” be played over the PA at his ‘70s concerts just before the performance started.

that is so cool about miles and i can see for miles. very funny too! miles was so funny. he was the original internet troll too. i love those interviews where someone will ask him who else he likes on trumpet and he would just say that he liked al hirt. you know that had to burn up all the serious bop trumpet dudes. though miles did call him a white uncle tom as well. even in a compliment he had to bash you!

(and al hirt was no joke as a player don't get me wrong, but still...)

The Miles/“Miles” thing was in a book by his former road manager, whose title escapes me at the moment, and which is not good.

Queen aren't good

that's a pretty common olde-ilx view. i always felt like there was more american queen love than brit queen love. kinda like my heroes bauhaus.

for years i felt like queen should get more credit for everything that they did but it might start going a little overboard now. that movie definitely did something.

(by u.s./u.k. love i meant here but maybe in the wider world too...? they were so huge here when they were huge. gods really.)

They're not stupid enough or maybe they're not the right kind of stupid

oh yeah -- for my students they're comparable to the Beatles. During lockdown they'd play the classic rock warhorses with their parents, hence why Rumours is still very much a thing.

Next two - partially great but starting to slip
New of the World onwards - mostly unmitigated shite with a few entertaining novelty songs dotted about

I have expressed this opinion to people (in the UK) to a reaction of shock and dismay, hence it's an actual road-tested controversial opinion.

I am shocked and dismayed.
