Decided all the dates were in venues too large for me, will wait for the next time she plays “smaller” venues.

New clip sounds fire though!

pretty good but it's so short, wish it had a bridge
― ufo, Friday, 10 May 2024 04:55 (six months ago) link
probably her best music video...ever? I like the song a lot too, I think this album is shaping up really nicely.
― monotony, Friday, 10 May 2024 05:44 (six months ago) link
the video itself is good but i don't think the intro needed to be that long
― ufo, Friday, 10 May 2024 06:46 (six months ago) link
video - (in)decent, track - yep yep yep yep yep yep yep yep yep yep YEP
― assert (matttkkkk), Friday, 10 May 2024 06:49 (six months ago) link
the intro needed to be that long so that every one of those influencers friends would feel justified in spamming their followers with a link to the song obv

Forgot to post this last week, but I was a bit obsessed for a couple of days with this clip of a forthcoming 00s throwback electro-house sleaze collab with The Dare:
what song is this oh my god i need it NOW @charli_xcx pic.twitter.com/PImPocHbET— kels*•.*୨୧ (@L0VEST0RYZ) May 3, 2024

Was recently surprised and a bit undone by “Official”, underrated track I think

that whole downtempo stretch on "Charli" is gorgeous!
― maf you one two (maffew12), Saturday, 18 May 2024 23:12 (six months ago) link
360 is fantastic as well. Despite having seen Uncut Gems and the recent boiler room set with Julia Fox guesting, i had no clue "I'm so Julia" is a reference to her? (per Genius)Anyway massively hyped for the album

Loving all the tracks released so far - but B2b is something else - would fit perfectly in an early 90's industrial set.

had completely missed this weird pixies/weezer-esque thing she did for a soundtrack, the guitar sounds here are wild
― ufo, Wednesday, 29 May 2024 11:42 (five months ago) link
album is out there in low quality and it's pretty good. probably her third best behind how i'm feeling now & pop 2? it's a less stylistically focused, the songs are generally a little too short and it's not as consistent, but it's still generally very good.
― ufo, Wednesday, 5 June 2024 07:04 (five months ago) link
yeah i love this album! the vibe is quite relaxed and unconstrained but it all fits together really well despite the stylistic variation.
"girl, so confusing" is so good, perfect mid-point of 00s electrohouse and hyperpop
― ufo, Thursday, 6 June 2024 12:48 (five months ago) link
good to hear. third best is actually a high bar!
― maf you one two (maffew12), Thursday, 6 June 2024 13:19 (five months ago) link
such disrespect to sucker, her best. sad!
― Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 6 June 2024 14:45 (five months ago) link
"Von Dutch" pressing all the buttons HARD, weirdly it's more exciting without the video distraction
― assert (matttkkkk), Thursday, 6 June 2024 23:51 (five months ago) link
First impressions are strong with this one, looking forward to more listens.
― Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 6 June 2024 23:54 (five months ago) link
i think this is my aoty so far which is probably just a reflection of how little i've really loved anything this year
but it rules!
― ufo, Friday, 7 June 2024 12:06 (five months ago) link
I've never understood her, a few hits and coulda-beens aside. We want to turn her into a pop star, she clearly wants to be a star, but she lacks the songs and the vocal presence?
Anyway, listening now to see if my mind changes.
― the talented mr pimply (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 7 June 2024 12:41 (five months ago) link
idk she seems pretty happy with her hyperpop weirdo niche these days
― ufo, Friday, 7 June 2024 13:00 (five months ago) link
alright Club Classics is awesome
― imago, Friday, 7 June 2024 13:10 (five months ago) link
okay yeah this is a huuuuge return, she is back
― imago, Friday, 7 June 2024 13:15 (five months ago) link
The three advance tracks were imho above anything she'd done before so yeah i'm primed for this to be aoty material
― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Friday, 7 June 2024 13:22 (five months ago) link
it's fabulous. it probably doesn't need 'mean girls' and 'i think about it all the time' but these are minor infractions
― imago, Friday, 7 June 2024 13:43 (five months ago) link
no way, "i think about it all the time" is essential and "mean girls" at least has that crazy piano part
― ufo, Friday, 7 June 2024 13:43 (five months ago) link
they'll probably both grow on me
cosign 'girl, so confusing' as a high-point mind
― imago, Friday, 7 June 2024 13:44 (five months ago) link
goddamn '365'
― imago, Friday, 7 June 2024 13:45 (five months ago) link
"i think about it all the time" is one of my favourites here, just a great vibe
― ufo, Friday, 7 June 2024 13:48 (five months ago) link
We want to turn her into a pop star, she clearly wants to be a star, but she lacks the songs and the vocal presence?
Plenty of other people around if you want that, doesn’t feel like this is what she wants to be at all and likes to do her own thing.
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 7 June 2024 13:59 (five months ago) link
she's found a good lane and i'm so glad she's still doing this
― maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 7 June 2024 14:03 (five months ago) link
otm. even though the video is cool too. just a nuts track. Remix also great
― maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 7 June 2024 14:04 (five months ago) link
― Chewshabadoo,
I don't want that for her but for a while it seemed like she did. Part of what makes this album a delight after my second listen is how she doesn't give a fuck anymore. She and her producers have manipulated a bunch of cool-sounding electronic burps and screeches and big synth bass for the sake of songs about how to face the life you've ignored after you've been out partying. (I still don't like "Von Dutch").
― the talented mr pimply (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 7 June 2024 14:07 (five months ago) link
it was only really crash that was a deliberate attempt at commercial success, which didn't even really work as that and was all the worse for her trying
― ufo, Friday, 7 June 2024 14:08 (five months ago) link
That makes me think more of "Charli" ("Crash" did go to #1). But yes this album is supposed to be (and on first listen, yeah, sounds like) a harder turn into weirdpop/what she's purporting to really want to do. Maybe she got better terms on her renewed record deal idk
― maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 7 June 2024 14:10 (five months ago) link
didn’t like “von dutch” much as a standalone, but luckily it’s probably my least favorite on here. “club classics” is indeed a mega classic(“i just wanna hear me when i’m on the dance floor”), also love “everything is romantic” (“falling in love agayne and agayne”), “rewind,” and “girl, so confusing”
― the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Friday, 7 June 2024 14:11 (five months ago) link
honestly most songs are highlights, this is great
― the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Friday, 7 June 2024 14:16 (five months ago) link
charli felt more like a weird compromise-with-the-label than anything else, like it was just a bit of a mess and seemed to be a few different projects cobbled together
― ufo, Friday, 7 June 2024 14:18 (five months ago) link
don't know if this is showing up anywhere else, but on spotify she changed the art on all of her previous albums to match the style of the BRAT cover
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Friday, 7 June 2024 14:23 (five months ago) link
pop 2 & how i'm feeling now were definitely not her aiming for or caring about commercial success and were brilliant (although given "unlock it" later having a bit of tiktok success she might have been able to get more out of it if her label had done any promotion at all when it was released)
― ufo, Friday, 7 June 2024 14:26 (five months ago) link
yes true. "pop 2" was a "mixtape" though. and "how i'm feeling now" i'm thinking sort of a deep-in-lockdown easier sell to the label?
― maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 7 June 2024 14:32 (five months ago) link
crash being an attempt at selling out was very much on her own terms from everything she's said, it's never sounded like it was due to label pressure or anything. i just wish she'd stuck more to the original new jack swing concept she had, the tracks that lean into that were great. she got too cynical with her sell out moves and didn't play to her strengths much
― ufo, Friday, 7 June 2024 14:43 (five months ago) link
“mean girls” is hyper-Kesha (complimentary). the piano part’s left hand is basically “outstanding” by the gap band
― the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Friday, 7 June 2024 14:48 (five months ago) link
she had a bunch of trouble with her label with sucker and charli but it seems like after charli they just gave up on trying to force anything and let her do what she wanted
― ufo, Friday, 7 June 2024 14:50 (five months ago) link
As I just muttered elsewhere, Brat is a good pump-up-in-the-morning listen as it is a good later evening one, I'm finding.

no mildly grating features for one
