i'm thinking maybe there is some crossover with this folkways release in terms of genre. another one of their videos they're playing a style or type of song called "torbellino"

Romeo Santos & Aventura farewell bachata music tour sells out arenas & is largely ignored by English language music media . Night 2 @ Capital One in DC was the other night. Back in 2007 as a freelancer for the Washington Post I pitched and then did a concert review of them. Washington Post runs less concert reviews now from freelancers alas.

I missed the early show with Roman Diaz although I did chat briefly with drummer Diego Lopez who was on that gig when I got there. But Festejation was great as always. I forgot to wear my band t-shirt, which I only thought about when I saw the drummer, Juan Felipe, wearing his.

Ned S*blette is reporting in his email that the following folks passed away:
Percussionist Eugenio Arango, conguero y batalero, most widely known for his work with Pablo Milanés (hear him on one of Pablo's most beautiful songs, "Identidad"), and for Los Hermanos Arango, a group with his bassist brother Feliciano Arango that made a memorable presentation for us one night in Guanabacoa. He had so much more to give, but fortunately, he was able to record this wonderful album from 2017:
Musicologist Laura Vilar, professor and founder of Producciones Abdala, director of CIDMUC (Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo de la Música Cubana) for almost twenty years, director of Revista Clave, and a friend, at 66.
