was kinda confused and thinking that max was looking for ani difranco rec.s and was wondering when she became considered balearic

the 'rise of the heart' album has both of her singles and some other tunes produced by don was. i've been thinking about shelling out the $$ for a copy but haven't heard anything besides the singles and a questionable "look of love" cover

thanx for the nice comments about balearic nightmare... psychgawsple, the track you're looking for is Guy Cuevas, Obsession (FK mix)...
― vidalb, Saturday, 22 August 2009 22:05 (fifteen years ago) link
obsession is my all time i wish i had track. fuck paying 100$ for a 12". wish that funky nassau comp came out on vinyl.

i would totally buy that di franco lp if i had the $$ too man, times is tight

it's kinda surprising but i'm really into this new coyote full-length- http://www.discogs.com/Coyote-Harlyn-Bay/release/1868893- not too different from the new sorcerer record but full of '90s basslines and chillout-tent vibes. and they even ease up on the cheesy vocal samples a bit

Russ Abbot - Atmosphere (Spirit, 1984)
I recommend this Balearic classic off that list to any Americans who have never had the luck to hear it.

The Chateau Flight Remix of Spectral Empire is nice and cosmic-y at 104bpm...
http://www.myspace.com/spectralempire
And the Hatchback Remix of They Came From The Stars I Saw Them's THE UNSTOPPABLE KITE totally kills...

Both plugs for my label but, you know, both deserve a wide audience.

i kinda can't stop listening to the quiet village remix of jonathan jeremiah's "happiness"... http://rcrdlbl.com/artists/Jonathan_Jeremiah/track/Happiness_Quiet_Village_Remix. those strings!
and i think i posted a link to this on another thread, but the morgan geist remix adds some juicy balearic synth-bass and is also pretty great. no strings tho, sadly
― psychgawsple, Wednesday, 23 September 2009 19:27 (fifteen years ago) link
wow. feeling the jonathan jeremiah. completely reminds me of my favorite 70s singer songwriter types like cyrus faryar. and jazz singer michael murphy. he gets the 70s the way findlay brown does.

ooh btw, epic 3-hour Balearic Mike set up in the Mendocino hills this past weekend. should be posted within a few months, i'll be sure to let yalls know so you can witness, dude is a fantastic DJ...i also have another set from a garden party earlier this summer but the recording levels are kinda fucked. should I still post?

he played The Do-Over in LA a few weeks ago (with Flying Lotus and DJ Craze if you can believe it) and if you google their website, you can download his set. i'll have another one for you as soon as I can host it.

Just listening to the do-over set now, good stuff, thanks. I'm sure I've heard him play that Paul Simon track before

btw, very much on a Balearic tip is the new rework of Saint Etienne's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" by Richard X, just released on 12" with a couple others (including Air France doing "Spring") and it is an absolutely killer 105bpm balearic jam (much like the original i suppose). sold out at Piccadilly & Juno but in stock at Amoeba SF :)

Anyone got any Cyrus Faryar? I can never find anything on this guy.
― noncollective.com, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 10:15 (fourteen years ago) link
i've got Islands (73) on vinyl and love it to death. i think i've dropped his name on this board way too many times. i used to have Cyrus (71) on mp3 but my harddrive crashed and it's gone :( But it means that it's out there on the internet somewhere? he also narrated some zodiac moog record, but i'm not too sure i liked it.

these new remixes of al usher's "lullaby for robert" on internasjonal are all pretty good, especially the mark seven 'island dub'. glad this track eventually got it's own release(s), it was one of my favorites on the 'computer incarnations for world peace 2' comp

mixes from this year's Chillits party in Northern California are online - including an absolutely wicked 3-hour set from Balearic Mike. lots of other great sets in there, my pics are Jon Ross (eclectic lysergic weirdness), Tony Stumbaugh (afternoon lounge), Jahsh (superchilled dubstep), DF Tram (deep ambient) and Andy W (eclectic). I also have a mix up there, but it's not my best and the recording crashed midway through, so it's missing 20 minutes right in the middle. Anyway...
