Good show, esp. "Can't Get You Out Of My Head", "Your Disco Needs You", er one or two others. The best bit was this Back to 1990 italo house and rave rivalism sequence! Smily faces and "Step Back In Time" and "What Do I Have To Do", but best of all, a rollicking piano vamp early house version of "Spinning Around"! Which was awesome! Now keep in mind that I usually loathe "Spinning Around" as being only one rung above the absolute nadir of bad millenial disco-pop ("Make Luv") (obv. there is loads of great millenial disco pop) and you'll get a sense of how stunning this transformation is.
Needs to be recorded and released properly!

The name of the album is a reference to a book of poetry written by Billy Childish titled Poems to Break the Hearts of Impossible Princesses. The book was given to Minogue as a gift by Nick Cave, and she has said that the poems summarized where she was at that time in her life.

Love the new single, it really improves on the demo version with the added piano track. Kylie fans aren't really into it though.

why are her latest videos so damn bad? what has happened?
― o-ess, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 14:35 (sixteen years ago) link
She is Brave and Plucky and Tragic (c. every British tabloid ever), and therefore will sell shiteloads no matter what cack she throws out because she's the People's Pop Princess. emperor's new clothes, and that.

In Your Eyes was a good vid (if you like big light installations) - can't think of any other good 00s Kylie vids
― blueski, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 14:40 (sixteen years ago) link
guess i'm the only person who likes 'wow' (the original more than the remixes too - mstrkrft one is a real case of them milking a tired formula)
― blueski, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 14:42 (sixteen years ago) link
I didn't know that the far superior 'In My Arms' was only released on the European market, confusing as the UK & Ireland market seems to need to be separate from the rest of the continent. WOW was terrible in all respects. sounded like someone messing with the volume alot. And the videos....sigh.
― o-ess, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 14:44 (sixteen years ago) link
That video where there were lots of Kylies was alright - Come into My World, I think.
Was "Hmmm, someone's been listening to Goldfrapp" anyone else's first reaction on hearing 2 Hearts?
― chap, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 14:50 (sixteen years ago) link
mine was "hmmm, someone's been listening to Chungking listening to Goldfrapp listening to and so on..."
forgot about the Gondry CIMW vid, but she's never been an artist for particularly good videos generally.
― blueski, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 14:51 (sixteen years ago) link
I like Wow too steve. Lots. Still unconvinced by 60% of new album though.
And yes, come into my world was a GREAT video, and I think can't get you out of my head had a fairly ace one too. Also, the barbarella pastiche for put yourself in my place. I mean yeah, she turns out plenty of very average promos, but she has flashes of greatness now and again.

What about the video for "Chocolate" with her dancers dancing on a hat she's wearing!? That was kind of fun.
I hope she releases "The One" as a single.
― !Alicia!, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 16:57 (sixteen years ago) link
One can only hope. But if she keeps these four male dancers she's got lately, it might hurt our eyes no matter what. I believe 'Slow' is the best in recent years, post Fever

I really like Slow as well.

Surprised people are so down on X; aside from the odd turd ("Nu-di-ty") I've found it pretty listenable.
What Goldfrapp tracks should I check out along the lines of 2 Hearts? (have never really had any time for them bar their remixes)
― __CB__, Thursday, 14 February 2008 23:43 (sixteen years ago) link
Kylie Minogue is SO much better than Goldfrapp; the new one is particularly grueling.

x is really quite good

On top of my head: "Ooh La La" (from Supernature) and maybe "Strict Machine" (from Black Cherry).

Of course every time I go to buy a Kylie Minogue CD I feel like I have to compensate in some way, so I also grabbed Ace of Spades.― Gear! Hah, I just picked up a couple Kylie discs this week that I'd been meaning to actually buy for a while. Also in my purchase? One of the new Joy Division remasters, some Roy Montgomery, a Godflesh EP, a maligned Cranes album (have a guess which!) and the new/posthumous UGK release.

"Love Affair" really was the shit, one of my favourites off Fever.
If I was Kylie I would be asking The Freemasons and/or Aeroplane to produce my next stuff. Sonics a la the "Paris" remix would be perfect for her.

Agreed, really enjoying this album. The Tom Aspaul cover/remake seem better-suited to her voice than the original.
― Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 19 March 2014 00:07 (ten years ago) link
Think the album is just alright but there's some really good stuff lodged in-between the dross and the album is short enough that the lowlights don't stick around long enough to really grate.
― Greer, Wednesday, 19 March 2014 04:26 (ten years ago) link
I like Kylie's vocals more than Aspaul's but prefer the production of the original.
