Can we start a music tech/theory board?

I mentioned this on some forgotten thread but lately have been thinking it'd be a good idea, a place for threads like the guitar pedals thread on ILE, or various conversations about synthesizer gear, or endless startrekman threads. I'm not so interested in theory but I'm sure some are. It could be called I Love Musicâ„¢, or I Love Making Music or something.

I Love Pirated Softsynths

Uh, yes, this would be lovely. But oops, there's gear threads on ILE? If only I had time to read it.

Eppy (Eppy), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

The guitar pedal thread on ILE probably should have gone on (oh, I don't know) the I Love Guitar board, but if the success of that board is any indicator, it's probably not worth starting up more sparsely attended new boards.

richard wood johnson, OTM!

maybe the guitar board is too specific, is my point. I want to talk about synths and midi as well.

New board is a terrible idea, but more such threads on this one would be nice.

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

New board is a terrible idea

Self-evidently, huh?

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

why is it a terrible idea? Do you really want tons of new questions about music technology?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

I think it would be great to have a forum in which the tech geeks can geek out, and it might be a refreshing change from some of the other music tech forums I've frequented.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 18:02 (twenty years ago)

Yes I'd like dozens of tech questions, and I don't want 'em ghettoized.

Why do you love me? Why do you need me? Always and forever...
We met in a chatroom, now our love can fully bloom...
Sure the world wide web is great, but you, you make my salivate...
I love technology, but not as much as you, you see...
But I STILL love technology...
Always and forever. Our love is like a flock of doves, flying up to heaven above...
always and forever, always and forever...
Why do you need me? Why do you love me? Always and forever...

Pablo (Pablo), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

well, frank. There have been questions on other boards that most people have missed. And I GUARANTEE 99% of the readers of the board do not want to have to bother even scrolling past questions like "Please recommend MIDI to CV interface for my Arp".

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

I would definitely post to this proposed board, probably more than I do to ILM

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 28 September 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

"Aye!"

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

xpost: What Dan said.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

I'm not even asking if it's a good idea, I just don't know how to do it. I suggest the title:

I Love (Making) Music

or any of the above titles, and someone just create the damn thing already.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

I Love This Idea

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 18:27 (twenty years ago)

I support this idea. If only b/c I know Dan from back in the day and he rules.

Hey Dan!

bsj30 (bsj30), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 19:28 (twenty years ago)

I totally agree this would be an awesome idea. I spend hours everyday knee deep in Cubase, midi and soft-synths, and I'd love to speak with people about gear, how to get sounds, workflow, etc.

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

That would be great.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

PLEASE call it "I Love Music Geir"

Keith C (lync0), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

I'm usually against new boards but I think that this'd be a good 'un bcz it wouldn't stop much at all on the main board and could lead to a lot of interesting stuff.

It'd be nice to have a music making board that wasn't tied to a particular instrument/software/manufacturer or a specific style of music and I think ILM peeps that posted would be more open minded and less likely to flame than those on most music boards, most of which are ridiculously closed minded and touchy.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

Oh, sorry, I thought this would be serious discussion/RFI and not a random string of puns, but seriously:

http://ilx.wh3rd.net/newanswers.php?board=12

It's dying through being low traffic. I don't know about the others (it seems to be only music makers from ILE - Pash, Dr C etc) but I'd be perfectly happy to widen the topic from "I Love Guitars" to "I Love Equipment and Technical Music Geekery Of All Kinds"

There's only so many times you can debate Electroharmonics vs MXR before you want to start saying "hey, what about Reason? Is Logic better? Which version of Cubase should I use? Minor vs. Diminished?" etc. etc.

The Brocade Fire (kate), Thursday, 29 September 2005 07:44 (twenty years ago)

Let's change I Love Gtrs to I Make Music then!

Raw P at work, Thursday, 29 September 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

I would adore a board dedicated to this, and completely throw my weight behind the idea of changing ILGuitars to I Make Music.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 29 September 2005 10:23 (twenty years ago)

I say let's do it!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 29 September 2005 10:28 (twenty years ago)

I've only just found the Ken C pedal thread. Oh, the things that get started when I'm offline, and now I've got 80 posts of pedals to read through.

The Brocade Fire (kate), Thursday, 29 September 2005 10:31 (twenty years ago)

I never would've thought to discuss say, analog sequencers on a place called I Love Guitars.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 29 September 2005 11:20 (twenty years ago)

I Love Guitars is such a downright rockist board name anyway.

readapting that board seconded.

that said, most of what i'd contribute and read about would be guitars anyway :)

AaronK (AaronK), Thursday, 29 September 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

I Make Music is a pretty good title.
