most perfect thing ever. it is impossible for me not to want to dance to this track if played anywhere, but it HAS to be Fast Eddie's mix. and surely it's as welcome in any DJ set as it ever was now?

anyway according to his website Gerald has a rework of 'Voodoo Ray' coming out in a few weeks or at least doing the rounds on promo. would love to hear!

i did thanks - yet to play tho! you'll probably know the Fast Eddie mix already but i'll send. it would often get the airplay instead of/and turned up on many compilations at the time (Deep Heat etc.) in place of the original - but i've only just ID'd it as Eddie's mix.

Hmm, interesting. I've always been a bit unsure about whatever might be the "definitive" mix of "Voodoo Ray". I have a 12" with multiple mixes (maybe 6), plus the appearances on Deep Heat, The Warp comp, etc etc.

i've enjoyed every remix i've heard, including Justin Robertson's beatless abstraction from the '96 'Curse Of' edition credited to Lisa May. and 'Voodoo Rage' - but i imagined a better drum n' bass remix years back.

The little acid squiggle is certainly reminiscent of "Acid Thunder", is it in other versions (also, I'm definitely familiar with this mix, but I'm not sure if it's the one I've heard most).

what does A Guy Called Gerald sound like these days? Bodecka from last year was good almost in a Schatrax style. Does he do a live techno thing, if so any good?

six months pass...

I just noticed over at Boomkat that Gerald's 'Black Secret Technology' has been re-released and that the abysmal sound quality of the original 1995 issue has now at long last been replaced by this brilliant new master - finally doing justice to the material and playable at loudest volumes imaginable.

Bring it on! I have a copy of the original cd and it really does sound like complete shit, hampering my enjoyment everytime I've ever listened to it. Only £6.99 on Bk too.

it's yet another remaster, with the same tracklist as the 1995 version.

judging from soundclips on boomkat, it sounds louder but not particularly great.

BTW can we have a referendum on electronic music "remasters"? because i picked up the model 500 "deep space" remaster, the "jelly tones" remaster, the "hongkong" remaster, the derrick may "innovator" remaster, and as far as i can tell none of them sound any different from the originals.

They do have a habit of over-exaggerating at Boomkat, so one has to wonder if it really sounds that much better. I actually picked it up on hmv last night for £5.99 incl. postage so fingers crossed.

Bloody record companies trying to entice the cd buying public! I guess they have to up the marketing lingo these days to get hands in wallets. Some of the Blue Note remasters sound even worse than the cd originals.

so i finally got round to buying this. unfortunately i can't for the life of me remember where my original copy is so i have nothing to compare the re-issue with. however, to my ears it does sound better. the bass seems to have been cleaned up significantly and the general clarity seems improved. don't get me wrong though - it still sounds as though i've taped it off the radio and am listening to it on an old C90 ;)
