anyway according to his website Gerald has a rework of 'Voodoo Ray' coming out in a few weeks or at least doing the rounds on promo. would love to hear!

what does A Guy Called Gerald sound like these days? Bodecka from last year was good almost in a Schatrax style. Does he do a live techno thing, if so any good?
On a different note Burial reminds me of BlackSecretTechnology which I think is awesome.

fast eddie voodoo ray rmx? to slsk
― elan, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:17 (eighteen years ago)
His Berlin Sessions record sounded like he had started using computers to make contemporary "techno". Not terrible, not great, I left it on the shelf.
― Display Name, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:40 (eighteen years ago)
don't even remember why i thought the rham on acid mix was a fast eddie thing. mistakes.

according to "the rough guide to drum & bass", published august 1999, a guy called gerald has a 3xCD juice box compilation coming out called "cryogenic" -- JABBA JABBA!! NIB NIB!!
still waiting.

I just noticed over at Boomkat that Gerald's 'Black Secret Technology' has been re-released and that the abysmal sound quality of the original 1995 issue has now at long last been replaced by this brilliant new master - finally doing justice to the material and playable at loudest volumes imaginable.
Bring it on! I have a copy of the original cd and it really does sound like complete shit, hampering my enjoyment everytime I've ever listened to it. Only £6.99 on Bk too.

And that Peel Sessions cover deserves entry into the "Mosty poorly photoshopped cover art" thread. (Not that they had photoshop back then of course).
― sam500, Monday, 28 July 2008 08:47 (seventeen years ago)
Is the Black Secret reish of the 1st or 2nd version?
― Raw Patrick, Monday, 28 July 2008 09:17 (seventeen years ago)
Ah, didn't even know there were two versions. And I can't seem to track down my old copy at the mo.
― sam500, Monday, 28 July 2008 12:13 (seventeen years ago)
I've got vinyl of the 1st version, the one w/Voodoo Rage on it.
― Raw Patrick, Monday, 28 July 2008 12:16 (seventeen years ago)
first version from 1995 and the 1997 remaster.
i have both, and they both sound like shit.
― moonship journey to baja, Monday, 28 July 2008 19:43 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah but what's the new CD?
― Raw Patrick, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:39 (seventeen years ago)
it's yet another remaster, with the same tracklist as the 1995 version.
judging from soundclips on boomkat, it sounds louder but not particularly great.
BTW can we have a referendum on electronic music "remasters"? because i picked up the model 500 "deep space" remaster, the "jelly tones" remaster, the "hongkong" remaster, the derrick may "innovator" remaster, and as far as i can tell none of them sound any different from the originals.
― moonship journey to baja, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:44 (seventeen years ago)
They do have a habit of over-exaggerating at Boomkat, so one has to wonder if it really sounds that much better. I actually picked it up on hmv last night for £5.99 incl. postage so fingers crossed.
― sam500, Monday, 28 July 2008 22:50 (seventeen years ago)
I don't remember my copy of 'Deep Space' mk1 sounding particularly bad in the first place.
― sam500, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:19 (seventeen years ago)
seriously! nor "jelly tones"
― moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 01:39 (seventeen years ago)
Bloody record companies trying to entice the cd buying public! I guess they have to up the marketing lingo these days to get hands in wallets. Some of the Blue Note remasters sound even worse than the cd originals.

so i finally got round to buying this. unfortunately i can't for the life of me remember where my original copy is so i have nothing to compare the re-issue with. however, to my ears it does sound better. the bass seems to have been cleaned up significantly and the general clarity seems improved. don't get me wrong though - it still sounds as though i've taped it off the radio and am listening to it on an old C90 ;)

automanikk is pretty good!

I've had it for decades now and never played it. just play the voodoo ray 12" it came with. maybe i should put it on.
― brotherlovesdub, Wednesday, 3 February 2016 05:06 (ten years ago)
mine's missing the 12" ironically
