The top 10 are okay, apart from the Phil Collins one which I don't think I know and "Stairway to Heaven" which is tortuous and boring.

I love that Nik Kershaw came in at 73 but what the hell is an Elton John version of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" doing at number 94!

Jeez, I thought only American radio played "Hotel California" and "American Pie" all the damn time. Part of me prefers these empirically determined lists - at least there's no agendas a la Jann Wenner. I can't quite tell if Australian MOR radio is better than American or not - Bowie's "Heroes" is on the list, and I've never heard that on an American MOR station, but then there's all those Icehouse (and no Sheryl Crow, who occasionally momentarily redeems adult contemporary radio for me). I don't think I've heard Elton John's "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" on American radio in twenty years, but I don't hear "Living Thing", "Baker Street", or "The Year of Cat" nearly as much (or nearly enough) anymore either.

I think that Elton's version is funny and good to hear once in a while, but not super-great.

Where I used to work the radio was always on Magic, a Golden Oldies station, and I reckon Georgie Girl was the song they played most often. I used to love Georgie Girl but a couple of times a day got a bit much. At least they occasionally played some Mike Oldfield.

I love Hotel California, I should have listed it in the songs that make you cry thread.

this list is why i used to listen to triple j when in australia, even if they did play shit sometimes.
but a friend used to listen to some oldies station and i did enjoy it when they played stuff like 'the sound of silence' :-)

William Shatner's version is better than Elton John's.
