multi-week #1 hits on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs chart, 2004-2013

this chart, which started in the 70s to track what was heating up american discos, used to be topped by singles and even entire albums for several weeks at a time. nowadays its movement looks more like the country airplay chart, with a new #1 single almost every single week and #1 hits nosediving down the chart after their sole week at the top. while artists back in the day could legitimately cross over from this chart to the mainstream, this almost never happens now; those now found topping the list, as this person writes, include "super giant current mainstream hits (of any style); non-Top 40 label dance pop artists; flop singles by artists the gays like (or like ironically); and small indie/unsigned/underground artists."

nevertheless a very small number of hits on this chart in recent years manage to stay atop the chart for more than one week. these are they. what's your favorite?

(for ppl who care about such minutiae, ALL these songs only spent 2 weeks on top except "hung up" (4 weeks), "don't cha" and "i've got a life" (3 weeks). also some of these songs only spent a second week on top b/c the entire chart had all its positions frozen from the previous week (britney, gwen, pepper mashay, tony moran/martha wash, "i hate this part," and gaga))

I have always wondered why it's so impossible for any songs to last at the top of the dance charts for longer than a week.

i don't know enough about how the data is actually tabulated to make any reasonable guess. i think i read something a while ago saying that a small number of major clubs in new york and la make up so much of the data pool that virtually everything else doesn't matter, making the chart pretty gameable, but i can't find that source anymore so maybe i just made it up :(

I mean, how "We Found Love" didn't rule this chart for 3 months is just ?????

The David Guetta remix of "I've Got A Life" is actually really good, which I'm guessing was what got played in the clubs. I'm surprised David Morales' remix of "We Belong Together" isn't there, since I heard it out every week for two years.
I really liked Bob Sinclar's "World, Hold On" which was better but didn't seem as big as his previous hit "Love Generation".
Still, it's probably between "What You Waiting For?", "Hung Up" and "Bad Romance".

think i'm actually gonna vote "when love takes over." close runners-up would be "bad romance," "umbrella," and "don't cha."
