MASSIVE ATTACK post-Mezzanine

So many good ones - "I Against I" and "Girl I Love You" are the first ones that spring to mind.

Good idea for a poll. I Against I, Live With Me, Girl I Love You and Paradise Circus are all tremendous in different ways.

Songs I really like: I Against I, Everywhen, Small Time Shot Away, False Flags, Pray For Rain, Girl I Love You, Psyche, Paradise Circus.

Also 4 years later, I'm surprised how much I've played and enjoyed their last album (which at the time I only picked up cuz it was quickly heavily discounted)

You could definitely make a killer ten track comp from the material here.

I voted for Paradise Circus, but then I remembered what I Against I actually was and voted for that. Wish they'd gone down that path further.

Forgot that Splitting the Atom is really good too. It sort of sounds like a song for depressed pirates.

BTW, they're apparently reuniting with Tricky for the next one if anyone doesn't know.

ppl who dislike 100th Window are insane

Everywhen is so immersive, it creates and perfects its own unique sound world.

I really like certain cuts off 100th Window, but it's quite monotonous taken as a whole.

Yeah it usually sounds great when a song comes up on shuffle - but it's a bit of a chore to listen to the whole thing in one go.

I never find it difficult to get through the entire album at once. For me, it's one of those albums where its overwhelming unity of mood builds upon itself in an album-long crescendo rather than bogging down into stasis.

like just now I've gotten to "Name Taken" and tears came to my eyes completely unbidden when the music shifted to signal the start of Horace Andy's vocal line, and I wouldn't even say this is one of the top songs on the album but the build that comes before makes it hit me like a sledgehammer

also that transition into the chorus is immensely satisfying

I don't think I've actually listened to Name Taken for years.

I've done some minor research this afternoon, and so far the answer is probably Girl I Love You.

Year Saturday Comes Slow is the ultimate "it's sunny outside but I have a life defeating hangover" song (and that's a compliment)

put on Heligoland on Sunday and it was surprisingly obvious to me that this was one of their best albums. Funny how it'll probably be seen in the future as a late-career "completists only" kinda thing, although it pisses all over 'Protection' as an album

99% sure this isn't true. 3D did a session with Tricky a couple of years ago but nothing's come of it so far. Even if a track eventually materialises it's not exactly a reunion.

They were brilliantly heavy and intense at Glastonbury btw. 3D's techno remix of Jupiter, with new vocals by Martina, was a nice surprise. She also did a great job on Teardrop.

Their Glastonbury show was the best I've seen from them. Crushingly intense and Martina Topley-Bird is great.

The music's quite nice and I agree with the sentiment, but I'll never listen to that again. I can't help but feel these experiments are an elaborate form of procrastination to avoid putting out a new damn album.

Maybe they're just not compelled to do a new album?

This EP seems like its primary purpose is to get a bunch of people to read/hear some essays they normally might not.
