haha yeah it's like "oh look, nine songs I adore and one I can't remember"

No 'Surrender'!?

Ironically, "In Your Memory"

torn between But Not Tonight and Fly on the Windscreen, though I'm also partial to Ice Machine

Voting for 'Ice Machine', because upon glancing at that list, that's the one I want to listen to right away. So that.

Fly on the Windscreen and But Not Tonight were on my copy of Black Celebration...? Because those are my favorite songs here.

But of the (US?) b-sides, I'll have to go with Route 66, narrowly edging Sea of Sin and Happiest Girl.

The acoustic Personal Jesus is also terrific.

B-sides can also appear on albums; I mean, the b-side to "Cry Wolf" by a-ha was "Maybe, Maybe" (which appeared on the album and was released as its own single in Bolivia)

Where's Surrender!?

Moka, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 21:03 (ten years ago) link

Good call. Great track.

LimbsKing, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 21:06 (ten years ago) link

Also missing "my joy" from walking in my shoes.

That and Surrender are among their best.

Since they're missing it's between Dangerous and Pleasure Little Treasure I suppose

I have long maintained that "World In My Eyes"/"Sea of Sin"/"Happiest Girl" may be the greatest overall single of their career

Star Gentle Uterus (DJP), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 21:18 (ten years ago) link

My answer to this type question will always be Sea of Sin.

All the ones I know are sweet tracks, but I'm a little bummed they didn't find room for "Set Me Free (Remotivate Me)", which I inexplicably love

This. There's also a great remix of WIMY on that one.

Not a big fan of DM b-sides. I'll probably vote for Route 66 even though it definitely feels throwaway. "Ghost" should have been on that list.

I always liked "One Caress" which then showed up on the subsequent album

Where's Surrender!?

Indeed. It's one of two "should have been the A-side" moments in Depeche Mode's discography, the other (of course) being 'Fly On The Windscreen'. (which was the B-side of 'It's Called A Heart') - the opposite of this of course, would be 'But Not Tonight', which is inferior to 'Stripped' in every possible way.

Voted "Pleasure, Little Treasure", love the live version on 101. But I was pleasantly surprised to hear "Behind the Wheel"/"Route 66" on my modern rock station the other day.
