KABOOM

Bee OK, Thursday, 10 July 2014 01:27 (eleven years ago)

insane list, could vote for so many of these classic, classic albums.

Bee OK, Thursday, 10 July 2014 01:27 (eleven years ago)

guh. voted beach boys over cecil taylor, coltrane (ascension), stones, beatles, monks, zappa.

balls, Thursday, 10 July 2014 01:29 (eleven years ago)

is this the last year John Coltane alive? sure feels like it.

Bee OK, Thursday, 10 July 2014 02:31 (eleven years ago)

just looked it up, he died about a half a year later.

John Coltrane (September 23, 1926 - July 17, 1967).

Bee OK, Thursday, 10 July 2014 02:34 (eleven years ago)

Black Monk Time is TOO FUCKING LOW. Sounds of Silence is a more acclaimed album???

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 10 July 2014 02:35 (eleven years ago)

But about the actual poll: this is Revolver, duh.

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 10 July 2014 02:37 (eleven years ago)

Beach boys 4eva

Οὖτις, Thursday, 10 July 2014 02:47 (eleven years ago)

Larry Young in a country mile

Darin, Thursday, 10 July 2014 02:48 (eleven years ago)

kidding - Revolver obviously

Darin, Thursday, 10 July 2014 02:48 (eleven years ago)

Pet Sounds, with much love to The Otis Redding Dictionary of Soul, Black Monk Time, Revolver and Fifth Dimension.

Ryan Gibbs, Thursday, 10 July 2014 02:50 (eleven years ago)

i know ppl were saying this about 65 but this is the best year for top 40 in america imo

balls, Thursday, 10 July 2014 02:56 (eleven years ago)

Ascension over Aftermath. the rest are not really close

g simmel, Thursday, 10 July 2014 05:46 (eleven years ago)

5D

noir-ish need apply (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 10 July 2014 07:39 (eleven years ago)

In reality this is a battle between Revolver and Pet Sounds, but I voted for Meditations, which quite often is my favorite Coltrane.

Frederik B, Thursday, 10 July 2014 10:01 (eleven years ago)

First Jefferson Airplane album, the one without Grace, should be on there--that would be my vote if it were.

There are a whole bunch of albums here where I love two or three or four songs, but I don't have a particular favourite. I'll vote for Fifth Dimension for "Eight Miles High" and "Why."

1965 vs. 1966: not sure how you'd structure it, but that would a good poll.

clemenza, Thursday, 10 July 2014 14:32 (eleven years ago)

wanted to throw out some love for both "The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators" and "Sunshine Superman" as they are both great albums. cannot vote for either of them however.

Bee OK, Friday, 11 July 2014 01:10 (eleven years ago)

i dug out my copy of Aftermath today. going to play it to see if it can penetrate the Top 3. i don't think it will get my vote but love the track listing on this album. going to be a good day.

Bee OK, Friday, 11 July 2014 15:31 (eleven years ago)

Where is Monkees band? Most important album of 1966 for me at that time.

Both jaunty and authentic (Dan Peterson), Friday, 11 July 2014 16:03 (eleven years ago)

Pet Sounds. Pretty sure California Dreamin' would be my top song of the year though.

campreverb, Friday, 11 July 2014 16:35 (eleven years ago)

Aftermath is amazing especially side one. but the last song is "Goin' Home" and is over 11 minutes long. i was thinking, just end already. is it as good as Revolver? no. is it as good as Pet Sounds? hell no. is it as good as Blonde on Blonde nope.

it will be one of those three.

Bee OK, Saturday, 12 July 2014 02:09 (eleven years ago)

have these Acclaimed series run its course? not seeing a reason to continue.

Bee OK, Saturday, 12 July 2014 18:56 (eleven years ago)

Keep doing them! At least finish off the sixties.

Darin, Saturday, 12 July 2014 19:35 (eleven years ago)

Everything ever has run its course. We plod ahead anyway. (I.e, keep doing them!)

clemenza, Saturday, 12 July 2014 19:38 (eleven years ago)

the singles from the 60's will probably do much better. coming in about three months...

Bee OK, Sunday, 13 July 2014 03:16 (eleven years ago)

Tim Hardin 1 just missed the cut at #26. I'd vote that over all but about five of these.

Lee626, Sunday, 13 July 2014 11:49 (eleven years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 14 July 2014 00:01 (eleven years ago)

decided to vote for Revolver, it is really hard to pass that record up.

Bee OK, Monday, 14 July 2014 15:12 (eleven years ago)

the photo at the top of the thread represents an LP I just might vote for over any of these.

Neil Sekada (Jon Lewis), Monday, 14 July 2014 15:38 (eleven years ago)

Quiller Memorandum and Born Free OSTs also capable of vying with this roster.

Neil Sekada (Jon Lewis), Monday, 14 July 2014 15:42 (eleven years ago)

Voted for whatever prevents Bob Dylan from winning again.

Cronk's Not Cronk (Eric H.), Monday, 14 July 2014 16:00 (eleven years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Tuesday, 15 July 2014 00:01 (eleven years ago)

I made an effort to listen to all the albums here before making my decision and evidently forgot to actually vote. Would have (just) gone with Revolver.

finn_the_scot, Tuesday, 15 July 2014 00:48 (eleven years ago)

that would have been awesome!

Top 3 looks about right. as i said a bit earlier in the thread, hard to get past those three.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 15 July 2014 03:18 (eleven years ago)

Wow I know jack abt Dylan or jazz but I am willing to bet that Pet Sounds/Revolver are not 300% better than their albums :P

noir-ish need apply (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 15 July 2014 03:39 (eleven years ago)

Dammit I knew I should've given a sympathy vote to Sunshine Superman.

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 15 July 2014 03:49 (eleven years ago)

Voted for Cecil. Most influential thing on here.

(Who was the other Cecil voter?)

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Tuesday, 15 July 2014 12:21 (eleven years ago)

xps I'm willing to bet Ke$ha's next is 300% better than Blonde on Blonde.

You are exactly why people root for the apes (Eric H.), Tuesday, 15 July 2014 13:04 (eleven years ago)

I was the other Cecil voter, such a treat to hear him do his thing w/ good studio recording, rehearsal time etc. Brilliant alb cover, too.

sʌxihɔːl (Ward Fowler), Tuesday, 15 July 2014 13:08 (eleven years ago)

Right on. And yeah, that's one of the better/more iconic Blue Note covers.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Tuesday, 15 July 2014 13:42 (eleven years ago)

this year's top two albums are the highest ranked *of all time*
