and we are finally back.

Bee OK, Thursday, 7 August 2014 01:40 (ten years ago)

i added an extra five this time around even though live albums would have only counted for an extra two for this year.

Bee OK, Thursday, 7 August 2014 01:42 (ten years ago)

In A Silent Way.

Tommy has its moments, but it's easily the worst Who album until Who Are You. The live recordings of it, however, lay waste to the studio recording (and to pretty much everything else of the era).

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 7 August 2014 01:44 (ten years ago)

Miles Davis

jmm, Thursday, 7 August 2014 01:44 (ten years ago)

a lot of the rock acts, i prefer their 68 or 70 albums. going with Hot Buttered Soul.

Nashville Skyline.

Led Zeppelin II... the best album of all time?

LimbsKing, Thursday, 7 August 2014 02:15 (ten years ago)

scratch that From Elvis in Memphis is actually a new studio album, so it would have only been one bonus for the Grateful Dead. one reason why i expanded it was also to include Bob Dylan.

continued from my last post.

The Reverend, Thursday, 7 August 2014 03:26 (ten years ago)

Everybody Knows, of course. The third Velvet Underground is probably one of my 10 favourite albums, but Everybody Knows (along with Gold Rush) is one of my two favourites.

1. Neil
2. The Velvet Underground
3. Let It Bleed

Led Zeppelin, Sly, Burritos, Creedence, CSN, CCR, and Fairport all have songs from those LPs that mean a lot to me, but no special feeling for the albums themselves anymore. Much bigger fan of Funhouse than the first Stooges LP, and don't like Abbey Road.

clemenza, Thursday, 7 August 2014 15:26 (ten years ago)

What a great year. Miles > Nick Drake = King Crimson = both Fairport. I've never been fond of Abbey Road. I loved the first two Zeppelin albums when I was young but I think they got better later on, as far as my current tastes go.

My Top 3: 1) Trout Mask 2) Liege and Lief 3) Green River

o. nate, Thursday, 7 August 2014 18:56 (ten years ago)

I'll step up to the plate for The Band, which is just excellent song after excellent song.

voodoo chili, Thursday, 7 August 2014 19:02 (ten years ago)

Even if maybe the peaks weren't quite as high, I think this is probably the best set of 25 so far, in the sense that I like pretty much all of the ones that I've heard.

o. nate, Thursday, 7 August 2014 19:04 (ten years ago)

scott 4

mattresslessness, Thursday, 7 August 2014 19:05 (ten years ago)

This is really hard. It's between VU, Scott 4 and Liege and Lief for me, I think.

first is the worst (askance johnson), Thursday, 7 August 2014 19:16 (ten years ago)

Miles

Harper Valley PTSD (WilliamC), Thursday, 7 August 2014 19:23 (ten years ago)

most of my favorite albums from this year -- sandie shaw's 'reviewing the situation,' the kinks' 'arthur' aren't here, but do love the dusty, miles, dylan albums. also love 'let it bleed' which i listen to more than the other stones classics from this era, something very evocative and sinister about all of it, even the lesser songs. went with 'stand!' anyway.

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Thursday, 7 August 2014 19:47 (ten years ago)

I totally forgot that "Arthur" was this year too. Whatta year!

o. nate, Thursday, 7 August 2014 19:49 (ten years ago)

Throw in Gilberto Gil's 1969 self-titled album too.

o. nate, Thursday, 7 August 2014 19:50 (ten years ago)

just missed the cut of 30.

Bee OK, Friday, 8 August 2014 04:01 (ten years ago)

did not find Gilberto Gil on the list of 75 however.

Bee OK, Friday, 8 August 2014 14:30 (ten years ago)

Well I'm going to be boring and vote for my favourite Beatles album.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Friday, 8 August 2014 18:32 (ten years ago)

1 Elvis
2 Bleed
3 Dusty
4 VU
5 Zep I

g simmel, Friday, 8 August 2014 23:05 (ten years ago)

Well, this was easy. Voted for Miles, obviously.

When it comes to Brazil, 69 is really the year of Gal - not Gil - for me.

Frederik B, Saturday, 9 August 2014 00:17 (ten years ago)

I need to check out her debut, I only have "Gal" from that year, which hasn't quite grabbed me like Gil's best work. Jethro Tull's Stand Up is another great one from this year.

o. nate, Saturday, 9 August 2014 00:26 (ten years ago)

In my house In A Silent Way kinda of trumps all. That record works as an intense listen or with the odd tape looping as an ambient record. I have had days working at a computer and just put this record on loop. It's one record I really never kind tired of hearing.

earlnash, Saturday, 9 August 2014 04:00 (ten years ago)

Let It Bleed. Love Neil, Nick, VU, Dusty, etc. but the Stones win out. I remember staring at that weird cover when my uncle first gave me a copy of the LP. Not sure I ever liked the cover but it was compelling in a "why did they think this was a brilliant idea?" kinda way. As for the songs, I even love the minor ones like "You Got the Silver" and "Country Honk."

that's not my post, Saturday, 9 August 2014 05:57 (ten years ago)

vooted stooge (as noted) not because it's the best or even my favorite album here, but because it's so obv that miles will & should take this, and 20-year-old me has feelings

Abbey Road

a powerful slander against people who eat (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 10 August 2014 04:31 (ten years ago)

let it bleed is one of my all-time favorites, but if miles wins this i'll be very happy.
