Only a bit of fun... Bands and artists typically representative of music pubs and sites. Here are a few:

Wire - Derek Bailey, Stockhausen, Delia Darbyshire
Clash - Micachu & the Shapes
NME - Arctic Monkeys, some other very important, influential band
Pitchfork - Arcade Fire, Bat For Lashes, Kanye West

Wrong about Stockhausen BTW, Cage and Feldman are much more Wire's cup of tea.

I don't read Wire as much as I used to but Keiji Haino used to pop up with monotonous regularity.

Mojo : The Beatles

(xp) also, at one time, if Chris Bohn could fashion a way to shoehorn Blixa Bargeld into an article/ editorial then, by thunder, he would.

ILM seems to be all about IDM and free jazz ATM

zip it shrimpy (dog latin), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 11:08 (ten years ago)

Free jazz? Where?

FYI Macedonia (Tom D.), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 11:12 (ten years ago)

Thankfully the prog obsession has passed.

FYI Macedonia (Tom D.), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 11:13 (ten years ago)

Ѿ (imago), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 11:17 (ten years ago)

Ѿ (imago), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 11:18 (ten years ago)

john wahey (NickB), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 11:21 (ten years ago)

The Wire still seems to namedrop Keiji Haino and AACM whenever possible.

Acid Hose (Capitaine Jay Vee), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 11:28 (ten years ago)

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Thursday, 25 September 2014 04:42 (ten years ago)

god the wire is fucking ludicrous sometimes. derek bailey for sure. AACM and john cage yes. fucking SUNN O))) jesus christ i got SO tired of seeing sunn O))) in every goddamn issue. the word "drone Metal" (with the fucking M in metal capitalized) as a descriptor of a billion bands even if the band wasn't remotely drone metal. scott walker. (speaking of the two, the scott walker + sunn o))) collaboration, jfc if there wasn't a match made up just to make the wire flip out in excitement). jackie o motherfucker. merzbow.

Hard to tell if you're trolling or not there marcos, but as a long-term reader of The Wire I'm struggling to recognize the picture you paint. Can't remember the last time they ran a story on Bailey, JOMF or Merzbow for example. and what about all the no-name artists who get reviewed and written about each month.

goth colouring book (anagram), Thursday, 25 September 2014 14:06 (ten years ago)

ha, i may be way off now anagram. i subscribed from like 2006-2009 and those names just felt ubiquitous. not that they ran a feature but they just seemed omnipresent in the magazine

marcos, Thursday, 25 September 2014 14:09 (ten years ago)

I'd love it if ILM could regain its prog obsession

Maggie killed Quagmire (collest baby ever) (frogbs), Thursday, 25 September 2014 14:27 (ten years ago)

ILM - Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Radiohead

That's... not the ILM I've ever read.

there's probably a neil thread active at least once a week

marcos, Thursday, 25 September 2014 14:28 (ten years ago)

The thread where ILXors fight to see who reads The Wire the closest

bozack horseman (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 25 September 2014 14:29 (ten years ago)

yes because we all care so much about this stupid magazine

marcos, Thursday, 25 September 2014 14:32 (ten years ago)

The Wire's the only mag I subscribe to and read regularly but it's true, sometimes it feels like there's an editorial rule where they have to namedrop Bailey once every four pages.
