we have...

Omni Trio 'The Deepest Cut'
Baby D 'Deliverance'
Prodigy 'Experience'
Nookie 'The Sound Of Music'
Sharky 'Hard Life'
Sonz Of A Loop Da Loop Era 'Flowers In My Garden' (mini-album)
Adamski 'Liveanddirect'

hey most of those were great! did Bizarre Inc ever do an album? SL2? who else released worthy albums that fall into this category? just the stuff that really came out of the Uk rave scene so not more technoey stuff like the early CJ Bolland albums and not later stuff that came out of it (jungle, happy hardcore) or stuff thats diverse enough to overlap into other areas e.g. Shut Up & Dance or the early Warp stuff

Yeah most of them are good because most of those people had a very strong entertainment aesthetic and were keen to fill up their albums w/tracks people might actually play (also the Omni one is a singles comp) rather than showing off (though they did that a bit too) and allowing crappy tracks on cos they fit a 'theme' of the album or contributed to the 'vibe'.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 21 October 2002 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

did Bizarre Inc ever do an album?

Yup. Great album too! Eon's was also fun.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 October 2002 21:18 (twenty-three years ago)

there was a 2 bad mice (or was it kaotic chemistry?) (or both?) album i believe...

and of course acen's 74 minutes of acen, which should really be retitled 50 minutes of "window in the sky" remixes and the other singles too. still classique though.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 21 October 2002 21:18 (twenty-three years ago)

agreed, they're all actually quite different from each other tho - Baby D's album is basically just a perfect pop/dance album that has its roots in rave culture but doesnt need that to sell it whereas the Prodigy album (which i really think is probably the finest on the list overall for the invention and execution) is a real documentation of the movement but with universal appeal (perhaps more of a hindsight thing that tho) too

and silly me for listing Sharky which was a total happy hardcore album, tho i do believe it was the first 'proper' one

and dammit i forgot the fanbloodytastic:

Altern 8 - Full On...Mask Hysteria

Altern 8 - Full On...Mask Hysteria

Gah! *Just* beat me to it! Go seek, it's brilliant.

Charlie (Charlie), Monday, 21 October 2002 22:10 (twenty-three years ago)

got it on vinyl mate..waheeeeeeeeeeey - best of all is the free 12" which features a Joey beltram mix of 'Move My Body' and AND AND a 'full on megamix' which is just like 'Intro Inspection' but basically comprised of all Altern 8's album tracks...pass the Vicks one time good fellow

blueski, Monday, 21 October 2002 22:16 (twenty-three years ago)

See also 4 Hero's "In Ruff Territory" - the missing link between LFO and darkcore.

I was quite disappointed by the Nookie album actually.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 21 October 2002 22:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Me too, because it doesn't fit Tom's description, i.e. it's not all up-for-it ruffness but there's some dodgy pitter-pattery vibe tracks with panpipes and ocean noises. (Maybe no actual panpipes or ocean noises but hopefully you know the kind of tracks I mean, anyway.)

Rebecca (reb), Monday, 21 October 2002 23:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually I think I'd maybe like it more if there were more pitter-pattery vibes - its mixture of hardcore and drum & bass struck me as ill-sounding, like he'd mixed the wrong parts together and would have been better off choosing one or the other.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 08:17 (twenty-three years ago)

what's the omni trio one like? i saw it in th ehmv sale and was torn. is it worth picking up?

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 08:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Pick it up!! The Deepest Cut is one of the top albums of the 90's in any genre even if it's strictly speaking a compilation. Hard to get hold of -- here in Ireland anyway.

David Gunnip, Tuesday, 22 October 2002 09:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Another shout for The Deepest Cut, worth it for the Foul Play VIP mix of Renegade Snares alone, one of the few truly great single artist D+B albums.

stevo (stevo), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 09:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah to the The Deepest Cut and Ned is totally OTM regarding the Eon album, Void Dweller.

Omar, Tuesday, 22 October 2002 09:40 (twenty-three years ago)

track listing for the nookie album please

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 09:48 (twenty-three years ago)

*dammit*

looks like i'm spending my dinner hour feverishly searching the hmv racks in the hope that some other hipster hasn't spotted it, eh?

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 09:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Nookie's 'The Sound Of Music'

The Sound of Music (original mix) - GOOD
Tribal dance - BAD
A drum, a bass & a piano - GOOD
Only you - GOOD
Khaos (A.A.S.mix) - GOOD
Drummer of Doom (Cloud Nine remix) - GOOD
Give a little love (94 Lick) - GOOD
Your wildest dreams - OK
T-Tree - GOOD
Gonna Let U Go - GOOD
Sound of Music (Foul play remix) - GOOD

blueski, Tuesday, 22 October 2002 10:15 (twenty-three years ago)

i dont think 'The Deepest Cut' has THAT MUCH over 'The Sound Of Music' myself...they're not so different - Omni Trio has phatter snares tho so...

blueski, Tuesday, 22 October 2002 10:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Favourite track on The Deepest Cut = "Thru The Vibe" - man that rhythm is INSANE!!!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 10:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Dammit, now I have to bring _The Deepest Cut_ and _Void Dweller_ to work with me today. (I brought _Energique_ last week.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 11:37 (twenty-three years ago)

how is the 94 lick of give a little love different to the versions on the original 12? i have never heard the 94 lick...

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 12:01 (twenty-three years ago)

the main difference is with the piano riff...the chord sequence is re-arranged, reversed even - cant remember what else is goin on with it, 'mashier' breakbeats maybe. i'm definitely gonna have to dig this album out have a listen...maybe even rip it if you wanna download/listen?

blueski, Tuesday, 22 October 2002 13:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Another shout for the Deepest cut.

Also the Foul Play album - the best jungle album ever altho maybe a bit too late to be considered 'rave' (altho only released about a year after the omni trio one)

I saw the first Nightmares on Wax album in the HMV sale the other day - worth buying? (assuming i already have the warp classics album with the singles on)

Robin Goad, Tuesday, 22 October 2002 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

everyone stop bigging up the omni trio album. i went to hmv and it had gone.

the n/o/w album is pretty good. perhaps more as a historical artifact, though.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 14:07 (twenty-three years ago)

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 14:08 (twenty-three years ago)

i hate it when it does that.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

"Alien Creed" off _The Deepest Cut_ is pure butter loveliness. Those sine-wave synth riffs are just gorgeous, and the beat is just FAT and OH MY I WANT TO DANCE AROUND THE OFFICE.

It's so tragic how he rubbed off all the edges and became suitable for The Gap on _Haunted Science_. Anyone have the "Mystic Steppers" EP and the glory that is "Step Off"?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

rub it in, why don't ya?

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

i do dan!!

erm, well on cd-r. i had to sell all my old hardcore/jungle vinyl ages ago sniff sniff.

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 14:41 (twenty-three years ago)

(Sorry, I'll switch to Eon in a second; I'm playing "Mainline" and it's SO GLORIOUS...)
