"in the morning" is the only song i remember from this record

"In the Morning" is great but this record is more than just that one song.

for me it's easily "FM", maybe the last JB song I really really liked, and one of the few songs of any band that's brought a tear to my eye

Have to go with FM, such a gorgeous song. I like all four of the Junior Boys albums but this is easily my favourite.

Yeah, seems like this is the last great Junior Boys record. Miss the syncopated cut up beats of Last Exit after Johnny Dark left, but thought this was still really terrific last time I heard it. Will try to find some time to revisit it and vote.

BDG is undervalued. "Sneak a Picture" is such a jam.

"the equalizer" is another unbelievable jam on this record. think "in the morning" is one of my least favorite tbh

i like the title track best, dunno why, chunkier i guess, reminds me of seeing it live / feeling the low end in the beat

yes, the "gotta get thru this" influence evaporated after last exit and they just became the best of a particular "type" of band

i can't tell which opinion baffles me more: ppl who think junior boys fell off after last exit vs ppl who have any time for begone dull care (or subsequent albums)

voting "the equalizer" because of the gorgeous melody and the heart-in-mouth chorus

iirc begone dull care was real backloaded, the last few tracks were gorgeous

there are a lot of nuanced opinions to be had about the junior boys

i really like this record but i prefer BDC. The Animator is my favourite JBs song by some distance.

'so sleep' would get my vote if b-sides were eligible.

so i did get around to listening to this. i felt it was front loaded. going to change my mind and actually vote for "Count Souvenirs."

I've said it elsewhere but I despise the production on this record. They sound like songs I'd love but they sound compressed to hell.

dang I would've loved this album in 2006, not sure why I'm just getting to it now. I'm thinking ourtunes was over by then and the station never got a copy.

it's weird to (think I) know exactly what "Count Souvenirs" would've meant to me at the time but to be missing the memory, the emotional connection is only to now

like my life in '06 was all old reviews, calling cards, "back at home." at least I had "L=P" by My Favorite.

this one def stuck an emotional nerve with me back then, especially First Time and FM

"count souvenirs" was the one song that never hit me when i had this album on repeat back then and it's easily my favorite now. which is weird, because when i listen to it now it has all the marks of a song i should've liked back then. to this day i cannot get over how great the "when no one cares" into "FM" closer sequence is.

they really gotta reissue this and Last Exit

fwiw I never bought the idea that their output declined after this - Begone Dull Care is a step down I think but the three after have all been fantastic

realized i probably spun the dead horse ep more than LG.

their entire output is worthwhile. waiting game is so good.

good album

first two are obviously masterpieces, subsequent three are excellent if not quite as consistently great, and Waiting Game was a pretty major return to form that I feel flew slightly under the radar. Side 2 of the latter stands alongside STIG and LE imo

every junior boys album is like a city i've lived in

Not much between those top two. They're both perfect.
