That was a funny time.

remember when thirdalternative became the first FP victim in literally two years?
― Ƹ༑Ʒ (imago), Thursday, 2 October 2014 19:48 (ten years ago)
What is an FP victim?
Lady Sov turned out to be a talentless joke.

I'm pretty sure looking back that it was only me, and I would still stand behind that first album.
The one song I heard off the second one pretty much ensured I'd never listen to anything else she released.
― 💪😈⚠️ (DJP), Thursday, 2 October 2014 19:50 (ten years ago)
Great call on the misspelling of "sovereign" so no one will ever be able to retrieve this thread for any reason.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 2 October 2014 19:50 (ten years ago)
It wasn't just you, for a time ILM was like a Lady Sov board.
― thirdalternative, Thursday, 2 October 2014 19:51 (ten years ago)
I actually did like the 2nd album track that was built on "Close to Me" though, so I must be a terrible person.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 2 October 2014 19:52 (ten years ago)
Vertically Challenged and Public Warning were both great in parts. And without Sov, would we ever have had Juicee Kouture?
― Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Thursday, 2 October 2014 19:53 (ten years ago)
listened to the first album again recently and there's some great stuff on it
― da croupier, Thursday, 2 October 2014 19:57 (ten years ago)

even "random" is boring and isn't that what made ppl excited about her?
― dyl, Thursday, 2 October 2014 20:07 (ten years ago)
specifically it was a remix of "Random"
there's something terribly compelling about "My England" that I still enjoy today
― 💪😈⚠️ (DJP), Thursday, 2 October 2014 20:10 (ten years ago)
Luke Winkie at Paste Magazine reviewed It's All True and the album received a score of 7.7 out of ten from the magazine. Winkie at Paste stated,[6] "If Junior Boys’ fourth album It’s All True proves anything, it’s that the Ontarian, indie-electro originals will never be fully defrosted. Their stealthy, dampened beat-work has kept them remarkably suave in a subgenre that generally softens up to a dorkier demographic – and seven years since Last Exit the band is as frigidly unflappable as ever, progressing nicely through their expected idiosyncrasies, while continuing to sound effortlessly and solitarily cool."
― scott seward, Thursday, 2 October 2014 20:18 (ten years ago)
that's all i think about when i think about ilm. junior boys.
nothing says suave like dampened beat-work. that's what i always say.
― scott seward, Thursday, 2 October 2014 20:20 (ten years ago)
jeez i still remember that time when mike skinner was the greatest artist since new radicals. until his songs turned into 'oi i'm famous' bits
― LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Thursday, 2 October 2014 20:22 (ten years ago)
She was pretty good - I agree with DJP's "compelling" - there was something compelling about one or two of her tracks. A victim of commercialism perhaps? Both albums have some good bits and there was some good remixes. xhuck stanned for the second album I recall.
― everything, Thursday, 2 October 2014 20:23 (ten years ago)
i still like lady sovereign, those early singles at least. she comes up on my ipod shuffle every now and then and i never skip her.

― thirdalternative, Thursday, 2 October 2014 20:26 (ten years ago)
when people do that "lol remember that thing you liked seven years ago" hype recollection, i always wonder if they actually listen to THEIR pick hits of seven years back all the time
― da croupier, Thursday, 2 October 2014 20:33 (ten years ago)
This thread could just as easily have been about Bon Iver, so lol @ everything.

Big & Rich: What Were We Thinking?
― Portly Backgammon (Old Lunch), Thursday, 2 October 2014 20:41 (ten years ago)
there's less consensus excitement over new artists or even established artists on ILM these days, or so it seems. what were the biggest threads recently w/r/t new albums by new artists? was the 1975 one the biggest?
i wish some of that big & rich hype was saved for miranda lambert.

― lex pretend, Friday, 3 October 2014 08:44 (ten years ago)
forgot about her until target failed to get the name of her album right on hip hop mastermind on bbc3 recently. but ch ching is a classic, yep. and one of the highlights on that first run the road, despite what grime purists might think.
― StillAdvance, Friday, 3 October 2014 15:17 (ten years ago)
actually, target's ('like i care!') facial expression at getting it wrong said it all

probably because it's fascist jargon. i always pick the "third alternative" policy in civ v.
