"...and a few LPs," I meant.

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 22 October 2014 02:02 (ten years ago)

)In retrospect, I should've dug out Refried Ectoplasm 2, but what I would've chosen would've been super weird.)

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 22 October 2014 02:03 (ten years ago)

needs some transient random-noise bursts imo

mookieproof, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 02:05 (ten years ago)

I wish I liked that album more.

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 22 October 2014 02:06 (ten years ago)

I've been gorging on Stereolab lately and feel they excel at the singles, one-offs and odd bits. "Refried Ectoplasm" over "Mars Audiac Quintet" for me!

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 02:45 (ten years ago)

You don't have to love TRNB to know that "Crest" needs to be on any introductory mix.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 02:46 (ten years ago)

Voted Les Yper Sound because I once had amazing dream about that song. Too long to recount but love the song.

brotherlovesdub, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 14:21 (ten years ago)

interesting bunch of tracks

I went with Percolator

Free Me's Electric Trumpet (Moodles), Wednesday, 22 October 2014 14:24 (ten years ago)

Went with 'Fluorescences', think that's my absolute favourite Stereolab song these days.

Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 14:59 (ten years ago)

Wow - nothing from the first few singles?!? Went with "Mountain."

I do like "Outer Bongolia" a lot, but generally fell off the Stereolab train after Dots & Loops. Couldn't they just keep trying to sound like Neu! forever?

KCB (Kent Burt), Wednesday, 22 October 2014 23:46 (ten years ago)

Ping Pong ommission?
Fluorescences by miles, although tbh, like the Cocteau Twins, I cannot usually associate their tunes with their song titles - let's say they are abstract, to be kind

Jessie Fer Ark (Mobbed Up Ping Pong Psychos), Thursday, 23 October 2014 08:22 (ten years ago)

Omission bloop burst

Jessie Fer Ark (Mobbed Up Ping Pong Psychos), Thursday, 23 October 2014 08:25 (ten years ago)

"Jenny Ondioline" isn't one of your favorites?!

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 23 October 2014 18:47 (ten years ago)

"Refractions," easily

J. Sam, Thursday, 23 October 2014 18:49 (ten years ago)

Another vote for Fluorescences here. Probably my second favourite song of theirs behind French Disko.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 23 October 2014 18:51 (ten years ago)

Listened to both of those yesterday, they do indeed kill. But you know what, Fluorescences b-side "Soop Groove #1" is a damn short 13 minutes of joy!

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 23 October 2014 19:03 (ten years ago)

Finding the Fluouresences ep and discovering Soop Groove was a mindbender at the time. I'd probably pick that if I had to give up all the rest of my 'Lab disks

Dokken played here for a Ribfest and people were total assholes (Sparkle Motion), Thursday, 23 October 2014 19:41 (ten years ago)

Fluorescences, Captain Easychord and Wow and Flutter are some of their more 'pop' songs, so they're good for new listeners. I love Refractions in the Plastic Pulse but it seems like a hard one for newcomers.

You're missing Jenny Ondioline, Ping Pong, French Disko, Lo Boob Oscillator and Miss Modular.

Moka, Thursday, 23 October 2014 19:56 (ten years ago)

As someone who only really knows Stereolab through a handful of songs not in this poll but feels fondly towards them based on limited familiarity, I am going relish listening to these and making my vote.

boxedjoy, Thursday, 23 October 2014 20:44 (ten years ago)

If there ever was a 'lab ballot, French Disc/ko would be my undoubted number one

Mark G, Thursday, 23 October 2014 21:53 (ten years ago)

I love, love, LOVE Refried Ectoplasm 2. All of it. "Mountain" just has a special place in my heart.

I wish I'd been able to find the album with "Daisy Click-Clack" on it to add that song.

Thanks for voting, everyone!

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 31 October 2014 01:09 (ten years ago)

As a fan if Stereolab I have to admit I'm not sure I remember the two songs with 0 votes.

Moka, Friday, 31 October 2014 08:59 (ten years ago)

Of not if* damn cellphone.

Moka, Friday, 31 October 2014 08:59 (ten years ago)

Outer Bongolia is killer Neu! meets library funk groove

brimstead, Friday, 31 October 2014 19:21 (ten years ago)

I guess that describes a lot of stereolab tunes

brimstead, Friday, 31 October 2014 19:21 (ten years ago)

Get the new Jane Weaver album, btw, Stereolab nuts people.

Mark G, Tuesday, 4 November 2014 09:44 (ten years ago)

Get the new Jane Weaver album, btw, Stereolab nuts people.

Absolutely seconded.Thought that the opening track was the 'Lab themselves, not that it sticks to this format throughout the LP

Thanks to this thread, I dug out my under-listened copy of Emperor Tomato Ketchup

'Les Yper-Sound' , 'Tomorrow Is Already Here' ,'Motoroller...' and the title track are keepers to me

Just realised i must've left 'Dots and Loops 'at my ex's 10 years ago. I hope she has played it more than I did

'Cobra and Phases...' next for a revaluation...
