By the end of April, my two favorite albums of 2014 were War on Drugs and Todd Terje, and I think that's still the case.

Swans is the only album here I like so it's an easy choice. I guess the Grouper albums is alright.

The St Vincent album shits on this disappointing bunch of albums from a great height. And no Owen Pallett, for shame.

Those two artists aside, this has been the year of acts I really like following-up their previous work with albums that are 'just fine'-to-'disappointing'.

Swans is in my 'good, but not as good as the one before' list.

Not sure I really 'get' Twigs yet. I'm waiting for it to grow on me, but it feels a bit like this year's XX, who I also had trouble appreciating.

Most of these acts are pretty established. I count five debuts, and the Terje and Banks albums were so long in gestation that it seems like the second album from both will seeml fresher.

of the ones i've heard on the list, i don't think many will end up being considered the musicians' very best work. it's like a list of 2nd or 3rd best albums

i should probably give her another chance but upon listening to two of her songs last year i thought that she would sound really good at a moderately low level in a starbucks

It's between FKA Twigs and Flying Lotus for me. Both are hovering around 5-6 on my list but I think I'll toss a vote FlyLo's way because he gets less love around here in general and I think he really outdid himself. The only other ones I really care about are Azealia Banks and Arca.

I voted for Future Islands, but I regret it now. I've been listening a lot to Terje and I think that might be my favorite of the year.

Still need to listen closely to Grouper, Van Etten and Caribou.

Pretty much my thoughts. I have time for some of these (Caribou, Terje, Twigs, Grouper, prob FlyLo if I spent more time with it) but nothing here is going to appear on my EOY albums ballot.

By going on albums I listen to and have resonated, it's Our Love.

i love Spoon and do think they are one of the best bands going but did not see this coming.

eh. it's not like they won in a landslide...

I don't think Spoon made the best record of the year or even remotely of their career, but I still voted for them here because the options were not far and away better. Nothing else here is even close to being on my personal list.

Heh. This is a really good point and also one that I feel like a lot of critics use as a point in their favor. I like Spoon a lot, too, but they definitely (as of Ga Ga Ga, probably?) get reviews that are like, "This band has been going strong for a really long time, and that in itself is awesome."
