lex pretend, Tuesday, 30 December 2014 11:27 (ten years ago)

i love "Shake It Off" so much i can unclench my teeth when she raps now

Gombeen Dance Band (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 30 December 2014 11:59 (ten years ago)

Don't stop by 5sos is a great song

Nourry, Tuesday, 30 December 2014 12:35 (ten years ago)

"stay the night" by a long, long way

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 30 December 2014 12:41 (ten years ago)

There were only 11 number twos? Reminds me why I stopped following the charts.

The Vamps - Last Night

have heard a couple of (awful) songs by the vamps but not that one - they're kind of a boyband take on the arctic mumfords right?

Maroon 5 - Maps

^ thought the ludicrous 'following-following-following-following' refrain was hilarious the first time i heard this, now it just makes me want to fill my ears with grout

Ottbot jr (NickB), Tuesday, 30 December 2014 21:19 (ten years ago)

the vamps don't really sound like mumfords or arctics. they have waaaaay less musical cred (i know). they're sort of a.. jangly one direction that plays their own instruments. they're actually pretty good at them (surprisingly?). they do a cover of cecilia by simon & garfunkel if that tells you anything.

it tells me they or their manager heard the suggs cover in the mid 90s

"feelin' myself" actually has a good beat and basically catchy hook, it might actually have been good but every performance is so phoned in
"stay the night" - zedd's hooks are so aimless, they sort of cycle into a void and i keep waiting for something to happen
"all of me" - i have heard of this i just haven't been able to hold my attention past 30 seconds. i can't imagine preferring this to the toni braxton & babyface album
"last night" - ew i hadn't realised they were the new-busted play-our-own-instruments boy band, no
"don't stop" - haha so are 5SOS but you can tell immediately how much more of a budget they have. definitely a better song but i refute all grotty puerile teenage boys
"maps" - making the hospital drama plot of the video louder than the music for as much of its running length as that was a wise idea, probably. adam levine is so gross
"won't look back" - idk how i missed this, maybe i was on holiday? it's obviously decent, though like "i got u" there is an inescapable feeling of "you're no "need u" are you"
"real love" - i guess the pop house revival was destined to go moribund sooner rather than later anyway so props to clean bandit for encapsulating its death
"you got it all" - with that name are they trying to be the ukip of the tier c boy band scene? anyway i didn't know westlife-style balladry was still a thing in 2014

SO it's duke dumont

I would love "Stay The Night" except it makes me think of Bodypump lunges i.e. it's basically a torture soundtrack at this point.

Which reminds me however that at some deep honest level of myself that I cannot consciously penetrate Nero's "Me and You" was my favourite (four year old) musical artefact of 2014.

Tim F, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 11:16 (ten years ago)

ha i'm very fond of all my workout music, though i've never done anything like bodypump

idk like the zedd/ariana single there just doesn't seem to be a hook there

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 11:18 (ten years ago)

it's when she goes "and i SAY I DON'T WANNA", which is so great it temporarily makes up for how pro forma everything around it is
