What a shitshow.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:19 (ten years ago)

Happy > Dark Horse > Fancy > Blank Space > Shake It Off > Timber > All of Me > All About That Bass > Rude imo.

Somewhere around Pitbull and J. Legend it tips into the completely unconscionable and even "Happy" was only like a 7/10 before I got sick of ever hearing it.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:22 (ten years ago)

Rather short list in retrospect. Maybe two songs I even like here.

Greer, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:23 (ten years ago)

dark horse

billstevejim, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:23 (ten years ago)

some stuff i like just fine on here but woof

1. fancy
2. blank space
3. shake it off
4. timber
5. rude
6. dark horse
7. happy
8. all of me
9. all about that bass

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:30 (ten years ago)

the zedd remix of "rude" would be my #1 on this though

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:30 (ten years ago)

"fancy" sounds great when you play it loud, that beat is actually kinda underrated

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:30 (ten years ago)

lol i was wondering why rev hadn't started this. it's ok to think iggy azalea is a minstrelsy pox on pop and that "fancy" is a great pop song. couple of weekends ago i was at a house party with a bunch of social justice leaning types and we spent an hour ranting about iggy's appropriation and then someone was like "er guys should i put on 'fancy' then" and we all danced.

1. blank space
2. fancy
3. timber

ok this is where we fall off a cliff

4. all of me
5. dark horse
6. shake it off

insert fucking abyss of hell into which i hope these artists fall

=666. rude
=666. all about that bass

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:34 (ten years ago)

haha I appreciate that you refuse to even countenance "Happy"

The Reverend, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:37 (ten years ago)

Happy > Dark Horse > Fancy > Blank Space > Shake It Off > Timber > All of Me > All About That Bass > Rude imo.

Switch the last two and this is my exact ranking.

Eric H., Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:38 (ten years ago)

ha that was a legit oversight but it is actually even worse as a cultural force than the devil songs i did list, which i found surprisingly easy to ignore, which i could not say for "happy"

xp

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:38 (ten years ago)

i was wondering why rev hadn't started this

I just totally forgot until seeing your UK polls tbh

The Reverend, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:39 (ten years ago)

uggghhhh, this list

kate78, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:39 (ten years ago)

embarrassing on some level but still very enjoyable to me:

1. Dark Horse
2. Shake It Off
3. Timber
4. Fancy
5. Rude

not embarrassing but also not nearly as enjoyable:

6. Happy
7. All Of Me
8. Blank Space

both embarrassing and unenjoyable:

9. All About That Bass

some dude, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:39 (ten years ago)

i meant that with number ones like this i can see why you forgot!

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:40 (ten years ago)

I legit hadn't heard "Blank Space" until researching for this poll

The Reverend, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:40 (ten years ago)

1. blank space

~an enormous quality gap~

2. dark horse
3. timber
4. fancy
5. shake it off
6. all of me
7. happy
8. rude
9. all about that bass

Greer, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:48 (ten years ago)

Dark Horse all day every day

the farakhan of gg (DJP), Wednesday, 31 December 2014 19:56 (ten years ago)

well that was easy ("blank space" obviously)

katherine, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 20:01 (ten years ago)

Blank Space is ok until the chorus. You can tell she'd been hangin out w Lorde.

(Tho tbh you cd prob say the same thing about Dark Horse)

I might end up voting for Timber

d'angelo's liaisons (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 31 December 2014 20:03 (ten years ago)

the chorus is the least lorde-esque part!

katherine, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 20:04 (ten years ago)

yeah wtf

"Blank Space" easily. "Rude" and "All About That Bass" and "Happy" are three of the worst #1's in my lifetime. "All of Me" is an inoffensive nothing. I'm waiting for Pitfull to cover "Conga."

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 31 December 2014 20:07 (ten years ago)

this is brilliant

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 December 2014 20:08 (ten years ago)

pitfull!

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 20:08 (ten years ago)

Lol more like 'cultivating a cool atmosphere at the beginning of a song and then wrecking it with a blocky anthemic chorus". I feel like Lorde did that a few times.

d'angelo's liaisons (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 31 December 2014 20:09 (ten years ago)

xxxp

d'angelo's liaisons (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 31 December 2014 20:09 (ten years ago)

The chorus of "Royals" doesn't sound anthemic to me -- more like a nyah-nyah affirmation.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 31 December 2014 20:10 (ten years ago)

Well she had other songs, dude...

d'angelo's liaisons (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 31 December 2014 20:11 (ten years ago)

Shake it off

, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 20:12 (ten years ago)

Dark Horse

Blank Space is ok until the chorus. You can tell she'd been hangin out w Lorde.

I get the Lorde thing, but Blank Space to me totally sounds like Avril Lavigne (which is probably why I dislike it so much).

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 22:59 (ten years ago)

Happy > Timber > Fancy > Dark Horse
Everything else I either didn't hear or don't like enough to rank

los blue jeans, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 23:23 (ten years ago)

1. Blank Space
2. (and close) Dark Horse

everything else is eh to agggh to noooooooooooooo

a strawman stuffed with their collection of 12 cds (jjjusten), Wednesday, 31 December 2014 23:26 (ten years ago)

ok thats unfair, i should be specific and say i legit hate rude and timber.

a strawman stuffed with their collection of 12 cds (jjjusten), Wednesday, 31 December 2014 23:28 (ten years ago)

1. "Fancy," 2. "Happy" (at least the chorus). Indifferent to the rest, don't recognize "Rude" by title (though I'm sure I'd discover I know it if I had enough initiative to check).

clemenza, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 23:28 (ten years ago)

I have heard, to my knowledge, three of these songs, about half of which I can call to mind

Banned on the Run (benbbag), Wednesday, 31 December 2014 23:52 (ten years ago)

greer's ranking is exactly mine

terrible #1s this yr :(

dyl, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 23:53 (ten years ago)

the chorus of "Blank Space" is the melody of Sixpence None The Richer "Kiss Me" and the cadence of "Turn Down For What" imo

some dude, Wednesday, 31 December 2014 23:56 (ten years ago)

actually a very good song

blank space

i will willingly listen to this

dark horse
all of me

annoying-to-bad

timber
Shake it off
fancy
rude

actively hate

all about that bass
happy

k3vin k., Wednesday, 31 December 2014 23:57 (ten years ago)

did everyone hate happy before it became so ubiquitous?

los blue jeans, Thursday, 1 January 2015 00:09 (ten years ago)

Not really. In the Victorian Age it was considered a virtue to be sober of mien.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 1 January 2015 00:11 (ten years ago)

Always hated Happy but performances, endless radio spins and omnipresence did def put it in 'worst ever' contender territory.

abcfsk, Thursday, 1 January 2015 00:16 (ten years ago)

I like Happy

Banned on the Run (benbbag), Thursday, 1 January 2015 00:17 (ten years ago)

TIMBER

J. Sam, Thursday, 1 January 2015 00:21 (ten years ago)

I love Lee Oskar and DDR songs, how could I not like Timber?

los blue jeans, Thursday, 1 January 2015 00:25 (ten years ago)

huh -- I hear the melody of "this kiss"

katherine, Thursday, 1 January 2015 03:59 (ten years ago)

1. timber
2. blank space
3. shake it off

i don't like any of the other ones

james brooks, Thursday, 1 January 2015 04:13 (ten years ago)

"Fancy" or "Dark Horse"? With T-Swift's two right behind?

jaymc, Thursday, 1 January 2015 09:13 (ten years ago)

Listen, I know it's not cool, but I kind of prefer "Shake It Off" to "Blank Space"? I mean, not the spoken word/rap section -- ugh -- but I'm way more of a lightly insistent disco guy than a big powerful/emotional persona play guy. So, you know ...

jaymc, Thursday, 1 January 2015 09:16 (ten years ago)

i can get to that

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 1 January 2015 15:33 (ten years ago)

yeah "Shake It Off" just feels more successful at what it's going for, to me. it's not like "Blank Space" isn't torpedoed a little by its bridge too -- "don't say I didn't say I didn't warn you" is fake clever nonsense.

some dude, Thursday, 1 January 2015 15:38 (ten years ago)

dark horse > shake it off > blank space > all of me > timber > fancy > happy > the deepest abysses of hell > rude > all about that bass

call all destroyer, Thursday, 1 January 2015 16:20 (ten years ago)

ok:
dark horse
fancy
shake it off

garbage:
timber
happy
blank space
all about that bass

een, Thursday, 1 January 2015 16:38 (ten years ago)

both "blank space" and "shake it off" have dubious bridges but oh man i like them so much more than everything else here

honestly, while "rude" and "all about the bass" are patently atrocious songs, they're so cartoonish I enjoy them more than legend's simpering

da croupier, Thursday, 1 January 2015 16:39 (ten years ago)

as for the other five "hooray for me" songs, i probably enjoy timber the most and happy the least. i don't know why Happy hasn't clicked, when I dug like 2/3rds of In My Mind

da croupier, Thursday, 1 January 2015 16:41 (ten years ago)

other four, rather

da croupier, Thursday, 1 January 2015 16:42 (ten years ago)

if magic actually had legs culturally i might resent them more, but a one-hit that sounds like big mountain re-wrote "run joey run" and added the goofiest guitar solo i've heard in ages? not mad at that.

da croupier, Thursday, 1 January 2015 16:48 (ten years ago)

Shake it off, minus the rap breakdown.

LimbsKing, Thursday, 1 January 2015 16:49 (ten years ago)

No but seriously, 9? Less than one a month. Your charts make ours look exciting.

i voted 'rude' idk

the two taylor tracks have more votes than everything else combined

katherine, Wednesday, 7 January 2015 00:02 (ten years ago)

mostly amazed that "shake it off" ran "blank space" so close

lex pretend, Wednesday, 7 January 2015 00:13 (ten years ago)

not that the Swift tracks are the worst things here or that the competition was that great but lol this board

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 January 2015 05:29 (ten years ago)

J0rdan voting "Fancy" in this should be automatic banning from all goon functions

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 7 January 2015 05:53 (ten years ago)

shake it off > timber > fancy > blank space > happy > rude > all of me >>>>>>> all about that bass > dark horse
