Amazing! Mentioned occasionally, but relevant now that we've created a new post-disco thread. An unstoppable force on the R&B chart b/w 1986-1988, she was a pop non-entity after "Never Knew Love Like This Before."

even her "Stand Back" is solid, although not Stevie Nicks' "Stand Back."

Yes! "The Medicine Song".
Never saw THIS video back in the day. VH1 didn't play a lot of r & b.
"Cos you've been bad, baby oh so bad"...

"The Medicine Song" is amazing, especially the extended version:

That synth bass! And her amazing zeal!

It's safe to say that I've never heard a voice like hers.

This is pretty essential too:

And this I think was her biggest hit? Great piece of lovers' disco!

Her voice is indeed amazing, so expressive!

Fun fact: "Medicine Song" was written by Hawk Wolinski of Rufus, who also wrote tunes like Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody" and Chicago's "Street Player". Those are some credentials, I'd say.

"Pilot Error" was another memorable video hit.

The 2 duets she did with Teddy Pendergrass on his TP album ("Feel The Fire" topping Peabo's), makes me wish they had done more . 1981's "Two Hearts" managed to sneak in at #40 in 1981, but looks like those were there only 3 duets.

I'll never forget being made fun of in school for liking "The Medicine Song". Kids can be so deaf.

been going through her albums proper and i think i like the 1985 s/t the best. "i have learned to respect the power of love" as the second-to-last track is elegant sequencing

patrick leonard also has a bunch of writing credits on i've got the cure and all of his songs are awesome
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Sunday, 4 January 2015 03:18 (ten years ago)
enjoying "i've got the cure" a lot, idk her stuff well enough yet to know where it ranks. great cover too
2-star rating on allmusic is a disgrace, they shouldn't bother trying to cover everything if they can't take certain types of music seriously

I picked up Tantalizingly Hot, Stephanie and Home last year, all very good. I especially enjoy the first one. The 12" version of "You Can't Run from My Love" is astounding.
