Wow, when clumped together this looks like a list of really arbitrary picks by a bunch of acts I think are all pretty good.

It's got to be the Flamingoes for that reason.

this is just a saginaw (dog latin), Monday, 5 January 2015 16:49 (ten years ago)

The Jackson 5 - I Want You Back (Jacksons)
Still don't love that this won.

Prince - When U Were Mine
Love that this won even if I don't love the song.

Stevie Wonder - Superstition
Love the song, love that it won, ran the poll. Voting this.

Eric H., Monday, 5 January 2015 16:49 (ten years ago)

does not include the artist polls I've run (XTC, P-Funk etc.) ergo FUCK THIS

Οὖτις, Monday, 5 January 2015 16:51 (ten years ago)

missing Velvets results too

Οὖτις, Monday, 5 January 2015 16:52 (ten years ago)

This is part 1, man. Part 2 will follow. Please unfuck this.

kornrulez6969, Monday, 5 January 2015 16:52 (ten years ago)

Wow @ Harborcoat

Must have just been hardcore fans voting in that one.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 5 January 2015 16:52 (ten years ago)

Superstition > Papa's Got a Brand New Bag > Gimme Shelter > I Want You Back > Dreams > SOS

example (crüt), Monday, 5 January 2015 16:55 (ten years ago)

Summer Babe really won the Pavement poll? Summer Babe? That's got to have been some 'I was there first' elitist trolling at work, surely?

Also, everyone knows 'Being Boring' is the best PSB single.

this is just a saginaw (dog latin), Monday, 5 January 2015 16:55 (ten years ago)

I voted for Summer Babe on the Pavement poll, and this one too.

kornrulez6969, Monday, 5 January 2015 16:56 (ten years ago)

And 'Never Let Me Down Again' - it's an okay song but it's not THAT good really, is it? Not when you've got 'Everything Counts' and 'Enjoy the Silence' doing their things.

this is just a saginaw (dog latin), Monday, 5 January 2015 16:57 (ten years ago)

Really? Summer Babe seems like one of the obvious consensus choices in the Pavement catalog. xp

Johnny Fever, Monday, 5 January 2015 16:57 (ten years ago)

yeah, I'd long been thinking of running this same poll, but for the most surprising poll winner rather than best/favorite song. Still might do it after part 2 is polled....

Lee626, Monday, 5 January 2015 17:00 (ten years ago)

have we never done a Sly poll? that seems kinda crazy

Οὖτις, Monday, 5 January 2015 17:04 (ten years ago)

Objection: there has as yet been no REM artist poll as such

resulting post (rogermexico.), Monday, 5 January 2015 17:06 (ten years ago)

Prince vs Jacksons vs Mac vs Missy

a drug by the name of WORLD WITHOUT END (Jon Lewis), Monday, 5 January 2015 17:07 (ten years ago)

xpost--

I just followed the list. There was a pretty small REM poll early on.
\///\/// It's the ILX SUPER SUMMER R.E.M. POLL OF POLLS RESULTS THREAD \///\///

kornrulez6969, Monday, 5 January 2015 17:08 (ten years ago)

yes - really just a footnote. the format was different than any other artist poll and turnout was low due to some organizational blips. it's a fine poll, just not an artist poll as such which is why we'll be doing it again for real in like 2017.

i don't see "harborcoat" having a big impact in this poll of polls but if it does more power to it

resulting post (rogermexico.), Monday, 5 January 2015 17:17 (ten years ago)

btw link is broken but i see that's addressed in the "where to find" thread along with Pavement, Manics and Blur.

campreverb, Monday, 5 January 2015 17:25 (ten years ago)

Funny, it was only today I got round to putting my minidisc copy of the top 101 tracks off the 50s pollballot onto cdr.

Mark G, Monday, 5 January 2015 17:29 (ten years ago)

Yes, wow @ Harborcoat winning the REM poll, although the correct answer is Feeling Gravity's Pull

Dr X O'Skeleton, Monday, 5 January 2015 20:45 (ten years ago)

'Avenue' would have been my vote regardless, but I just wanted to take this opportunity to say how much I like this gif from the Saint Etienne poll

soref, Monday, 5 January 2015 21:02 (ten years ago)

Waterloo Sunset just ahead of Substitute

These polls do produce some unexpected winners (sometimes).

the magnetic pope has sparked (WilliamC), Monday, 5 January 2015 21:14 (ten years ago)

1. "What Have I Done To Deserve This?"
2. "Substitute"
3. "Eight Miles High"
4. "I Want You Back"

clemenza, Monday, 5 January 2015 22:14 (ten years ago)

Hate to do it, but...

'A Day In The Life'

You’re being too simplistic and you’re insulting my poor heart (Turrican), Monday, 5 January 2015 22:24 (ten years ago)

"A Forest"

Bee OK, Tuesday, 6 January 2015 04:14 (ten years ago)

Hate to do it, but...

'A Day In The Life'

If I'd voted in the Beatles poll, this probably would have been my #2, but if I'd voted in the Rolling Stones poll, "Gimme Shelter" would have been my #1, so that.

Hideous Lump, Tuesday, 6 January 2015 04:44 (ten years ago)

Lots of great songs here, please vote

kornrulez6969, Friday, 9 January 2015 01:56 (ten years ago)

Summer Babe Nail Clinic really won the Pavement poll? Summer Babe Nail Clinic? That's got to have been some 'I was there first' elitist trolling at work, surely?

In other words, damned if we did damned if we didn't.

pplains, Thursday, 15 January 2015 04:32 (ten years ago)
