I was way into her California Lightening side project (about which I've been able to find very little info but of which I've somehow managed to accrue an album's worth of material).

Love the first two and their singles and comp tracks are often even better. Never got into the third album and am quite curious about the new one, thanks for the link!

Just streamed it, I really dig it even if it's not as wonderfully frenetic as their early material. I'm going to go back to "Nightlife" and see if it clicks for me now.

Nightlife is a musical tease. It taunts with slicing angular Gang of Four groove, and then turns on a dime to calliope sing-song. Rock that could drop the math.

First two EE records might be my favorites 00s-post-punk-revival-whatever-you-want-to-call-it records. Nightlife definitely disappointed me when it first came out, but I warmed to it years later. I feel it's lack of winding/frenetic guitar lines are due to Sara Jaffe leaving the band. New one sounds alright, but I still miss that early sound. Jenny Hoyston has some good solo work out there, as mentioned earlier.
I saw them live in 2002, one of the best shows I've ever attended. After the show, overheard a very hip-looking guy saying, "Do we really need a Dog Faced Hermans cover band?"
