A thread for pondering the Stockholm-based Häpna label (Tape, Hans Appelqvist et al) and similar.

Don't know much about the label aside from loving Tape's Casino album and one Hans Appelqvist track that appeared on a free CD with the Wire (a few years ago) and (more recently) on a Ben Watt Deep Folk mix.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

Love the albums Sagor & Swing and their main man Eric Malmberg recorded for Häpna. Lovely Hammond organ-driven music, like Hansson & Karlsson (Malmberg was Hansson's protegé) only miles better.

Also you should get a mod to correct the typo in the thread title.

Everything by Tape obviously (don't they also run the label?). Tenniscoats "Papa's Ear" is also a favourite.

yeah it's Johan Berthling's label (Tape is his project), he is also great w/Mats Gustafsson in Fire!

Tenniscoats rule.

Anagram, is that the Fire! Orchestra thing? I was really into what I heard of that.

love Hans Appelqvist, the Sifantin och mörkret album is great moody blueness

Thanks to the mods, especially for the umlaut.

Fire! Orchestra is the 28-piece big band that grew out of the Fire! trio. The trio albums are better IMO.
