Studio Voices

Obviously everybody sounds better in the studio than they do live, but there are some vocalists who are just completely different animals live than in the studio (often because of their taxing style of vocals).

a few examples i can think of are Hansi Kursch and Blackie Lawless, two metal singers who had dope voices on record but had a hard time translating it to the stage, as the throaty yell is hard to sustain. the latter used to often have his band play an extra few bars of vamp music between chorus and verse to 'recharge' prior to the next one, and even then, his yells were a lot less dirty than in the studio, presumably because it hurt like hell.

I'm not talking about people who just aren't great live performers or whose voices degraded over time...but singers who seem incapable of remotely recreating their studio sound live.

are there others?

I think a lot of metal singers layer their vocals up to ten times to achieve certain growl or yell effects
