will never understand why otherwise smart people care about the Grammys

Oh, make no mistake. I'm an idiot.

S&G or MJ depending, no strong feelings beyond those

If there is one thing no one can take away from these records is that they each SO WELL ENGINEERED, for non-classical music I mean

Wow, great Mission of Burma nod, fair play

stfu and get in line, bitch

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 9 February 2015 22:16 (eleven years ago)

In retrospect, should've left Thriller off to see what everyone's second choice is.

Eric H., Monday, 9 February 2015 22:17 (eleven years ago)

heh

fuck Thriller

Οὖτις, Monday, 9 February 2015 22:18 (eleven years ago)

Only like half of these even deserve to be called albums

walid foster dulles (man alive), Monday, 9 February 2015 22:18 (eleven years ago)

BOTB's been forgotten but it's a solid comp of QJ's late eighties listening habits. plus "The Secret Garden."

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 9 February 2015 22:18 (eleven years ago)

I have the vinyl. Can't wait for our honeymoon to cue that one up.

Eric H., Monday, 9 February 2015 22:20 (eleven years ago)

i mean even i would vote for Thriller

(and the only other one i've ever heard is Bridge Over Troubled Water)

touch of a love-starved cobra (Dr Morbius), Monday, 9 February 2015 22:21 (eleven years ago)

Man, Roger Miller sticks out more than usual in this bunch.

Don A Henley And Get Over It (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 9 February 2015 22:22 (eleven years ago)

By itself, the track won five Grammy awards for Miller including best Rock and roll single. By comparison, the whole album won only one, for best country album.[3]

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 9 February 2015 22:35 (eleven years ago)

Are we voting for best or worst here? Because if we're voting for the best, then this is frighteningly piss easy, and if we're voting for the worst then shit, I don't even know where to fucking begin.

You’re being too simplistic and you’re insulting my poor heart (Turrican), Monday, 9 February 2015 22:37 (eleven years ago)

Seriously, I really like that Santana album. Anybody with me?

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 9 February 2015 22:37 (eleven years ago)

I voted for what I consider to be the 3rd "best" because the top two seemed so obvious it was boring.

It's not a matter of caring about it. It's like caring about "American Idol." It's there, it's got music, and it inspires polls like this. More tiresome are people on Facebook expecting a cookie for posting the depths of their supreme indifference.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 9 February 2015 22:50 (eleven years ago)

i rate

Taking the Long Way, Dixie Chicks (6)
Thriller, Michael Jackson (8)
Bridge Over Troubled Water, Simon & Garfunkel (6)
Back To Black, Amy Winehouse (6)
All That You Can't Leave Behind, U2 (7)

voted for dixie chicks

Mordy, Monday, 9 February 2015 22:52 (eleven years ago)

kind of intrigued by that roger miller album

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Monday, 9 February 2015 22:55 (eleven years ago)

Dixie Chicks record could've been better with some editing; with a producer who was actually present during the recording; and with any drummer in the world other than Chad Smith. Despite those formidable obstacles, it's a good record. But how can anyone not vote for Thriller?

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 9 February 2015 23:01 (eleven years ago)

Yup. Pretty much stuck out immediately as the one to go for, with the Simon & Garfunkel album running it close.

You’re being too simplistic and you’re insulting my poor heart (Turrican), Monday, 9 February 2015 23:05 (eleven years ago)

kinda amazing to me that taking the long way took four years after home since i often feel like home + best tracks from long way (particularly easy silence) would be a perfect album. obv some of the grammy credit was residual from home not getting the due it deserved (plus all the bush controversy in the interim) but still so many amazing moments and probably despite (or bc of) so much grammy recognition i feel like long way is sorta underrated?

obv thriller is a classic (as is bridge over troubled water which is - despite the pretty saccharine -- tho still gorgeous -- title track - chock-full of amazing tracks, cecilia, boxer, only living boy ok i just realized the voted for the wrong album here but i stand by my vote)

Mordy, Monday, 9 February 2015 23:06 (eleven years ago)

who knew adele had more than one song on that album

Mordy, Monday, 9 February 2015 23:08 (eleven years ago)

ironically, Blueprint 3 lost Best Rap Album to Eminem's Recovery - those six nods are for singles (2 for "Empire State" 2 for "Run This Town" 1 for "DOA" 1 for "On To The Next One")

da croupier, Monday, 9 February 2015 23:09 (eleven years ago)

All That You Can't Leave Behind got Best Rock Album, and is the only album two ever have two tracks win Record Of The Year ("Beautiful Day" and "Walk On") but lost Album Of The Year to the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack.

da croupier, Monday, 9 February 2015 23:14 (eleven years ago)

Bridge Over Troubled Water just over Thriller on account of BOTW's lack of a "The Girl is Mine"-level dud.

That shit right there is precedented. (cryptosicko), Monday, 9 February 2015 23:16 (eleven years ago)

haven't heard BOTW but i don't belieeeeeve it

da croupier, Monday, 9 February 2015 23:17 (eleven years ago)

Voted Plant/Krauss. Thriller is good, and I loved it as a kid, but I never think to put it on by choice and it doesn't need my help. "Beat It On" is the greatest thing ever, though.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 14:46 (eleven years ago)

A lot of you kids are too young to remember what it was like when Toto IV cleaned up at the Grammys, but let me tell you it was a magical, once in a lifetime cultural watershed event.

kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 10 February 2015 16:22 (eleven years ago)

Shares a lot of personnel with Thriller! No "Hold the Line", no credibility, though.

Really a crime that Motley Crue never won a grammy. /jk
